All they had to do was a nice graphics upgrade on TDU2. Loved that game, completed it. I recall the achievement to travel every metre of the map. Was very immersive, cruising around, visiting places, quite a unique gameplay loop. That's what defined the game, made it stand out.
Let's be honest it would have sold about 10 copies if it was like TDU2... Gaming has changed, especially AAA games, they can't make games like they used to, people won't buy them
@@HansFriedrich532 Maybe not you but the reason TDU is even still somewhat popular is because the core fans are still interested in that. I myself would love an updated TDU2. Obviously not the same exact game, but he means the same core features and feeling of the game. Just update the graphics, give it a non-cringy story, and fix the physics and you got a game TDU fans want.
That doesn’t mean anything though, even solar crown has many features that no other triple a racing game has had since tdu2. This video just doesn’t give it justice (also Alex vii is a very prominent TDU CZcamsR, not Forza or tc2. Just go watch his videos if you’re interested in this game)

There is essential no new games nowadays as they are all corporate soul sucking garbage. A company hiring "influencers" to sell their product is a huge red flag. It shows that they don't have faith that the product can sell on its own merits and that they believe the customers are dumb enough to let popular people's opinion sway them!
I had the same thought, but to be fair, I looked up the BlackPanthaa guy and watched some of his videos on the game leading up to this showcase and after and he seems to really understand what made TDU and TDU2 great and has some of the same reservations we do.

TDU 1 and 2 at times had really unpredictable handling. But that made it all the more rewarding when you survived a delivery mission more or less without damage. I never had such moments of pure happiness in any other game after that.

I disagree that Forza is bad. I think Forza Horizon 4 is one of my favourite arcade racers. However, it's meant to be a different type of game to Test Drive Unlimited and both have their place. I certainly want Test Drive Unlimited to stay focussed on the driving/lifestyle and not go the route of Forza. They should remain separate and be completely different games, so if the new TDU tries to be Forza, it will simply fail.
I can understand the frustration that this demo may not have been able to please everyone. The core idea being to show off some actual unscripted gameplay rather than a 2 min gameplay trailer, or scripted E3 style demo. But I can assure you this is an authentic TDU experience (minus the car wash for obvious reasons) that includes most of the elements you enjoyed about the previous versions. You'll earn your cars, bond with them, maximise their performance on your journey. The handling is satisfying, ideal for cruising, or going hell for leather. Racing is part of TDU, as are the many challenges and options to be revealed in the months ahead. I'm confident that when you see future builds, the game structure and the player journey, you'll find something for you.
Fingers crossed. 🤞🏾 It was pretty cool to see you all racing together. I noticed the hud dials all being the same, which is only a minor thing, but I loved how in the previous TDU games, each vehicle had their respective dials on bumper & chase cams. 👌🏾

1:14 couldnt agree more! I love the grind to earn cars, once you get the car you want, you feel so achieved. I'll only have about 6 cars in a racing game, but I'll truly get attached to them.
What is not mentioned is how good the actual gameplay was as well. The heft and inertia of the cars was excellent and the open roads were great to drive on.
With Forza you need to turn on simulation steering and turn off traction control and stability manager and perhaps ABS, but I generally run with ABS. The default settings are made for beginners.
Alex vii has a video on his channel that was WAY better than the live reveal in my opinion. Actually explains a lot of things rather than watching 6 people crash into each other constantly.
That was exactly my first impression when I saw the livestream. The presentation actually started quite well. The bit with the hotel looked somewhat like TDU. But after that it went quickly south. I agree with you that TDU is more about lifestyle than racing. That's what has always set the series apart from other racing games. What they showed in that half hour could have been almost any racing game, if you didn't look closely.
Absolutely agree with you. Definitely looks like they have completely missed everything that was good about TDU1. I used to love hooking up and driving round Hawaii with a group of Japanese friends. It was just so liberating. Really looking after the car and just being immersed in clocking up the miles...... The footage I have just seen.... doesn't capture ANY of that... they fucked it up for sure!
You can still hook up and drive round Oahu - TDU 1 Platinum mod. The physics are on a decent simulation level in Hardcore mod. Over 100 players online anytime. Mindblowing stuff.
I really hope they nail the showrooms, houses, racing clubs, and progression. tdu2 was amazing back in the day. Edit: nvm, now I've watched the video and realized the devs clearly havent played tdu2 in its glory days :(
Showrooms look great, you have an apartment rather than a house, there are the Streets and Sharps factions, plus so many new things to experience no other game does. It's a full TDU experience.

Never played the second one, but TDU was one of my first 360 games - and having been a PC gamer before making that switch, I was blown away by it - it just seemed like a vast limitless game at the time; and an amazing (for me at least) intro into 'next gen' console gaming. I remember trying to get my first F430, having to do race after race to get enough money - then buying one, and feeling like I actually achieved something; at that time it was quite rare to see them on the virtual roads, so you got to feel like you owned something special - albeit in a virtual realm. And finding the MV garage, and buying the F4! What a rush that was, belting around the island seeing off most 4 wheelers :D Heck, even the big around the island race felt like an achievement - 60 minutes and a cool million quid (or thereabouts iirc), it was my go to churn to get a few more supercars in my garage. This new one though.... It's a Forza Horizon clone, and why oh why pick a bunch of idiotic 'influencers' to sell it, they hold power over their followers, who probably won't translate into paying customers. Such a shame.
Hey, I get your fears and doubts. We all want TDUSC to be a true TDU game. We need people like you to join the official server and make your voice heard. KT is actually listening to a lot of feedback from the beginning. A lot more than other companies. Just remember that its their first time making an open world game like this, with limited funding and a small team. We have the same game director as TDU2 tho, and he also worked on TDU1. So on a lot of features, he knows what he's doing. Some things have been changed or left out, and I don't agree with everything either, but this game has a lot of potential. We just opened a feedback thread channel on the official discord. Don't be shy and come join to make your feedback (respectfully) known, so that KT and Nacon see what things are most important to us now. They actually care. Help us make TDU become the game it deserves to be 🙏😇

Also, are they gonna print discs with the subpar game onto it and then force updates just to get access to a game that doesn't suck? That's bullshit. And even if it wasn't, barely anybody's gonna wait around patiently for updates anyway unless you pull a full No Man's Sky or a Neverwinter Nights: Enhanced Edition and show that you're fully willing and dedicated to improve the game above and beyond what was expected of you for YEARS with little or no pay coming in. So yeah, get it right the FIRST time. The fact alone that we even have to give them feedback to not be like Forza Horizon is embarrassing for them and probably indicates that they never even knew what fans wanted out of a new Test Drive game in the first place. What’s annoying is most people who saw the livestream weren’t feeling what was shown and I remember some comments stating it looks like Forza but these CZcamsrs that were invited to the live stream and play the game are actually against fans voicing their concerns even though it doesn’t look like Test Drive in my opinion, and they are using the “oh it’s alpha gameplay” as a shield but we all know it won’t change much if at all before release. Furthermore how can you release a Test Drive game without the ability to buy houses at launch

Mack, you gotta keep in mind that this is alpha gameplay. If you watch Alex Vll's video on it, it goes more in depth of the gameplay about how you can roll the windows down, use your left/right turn signals, take the roof on and off, use windshield wipers, use hazard lights, etc. There are 🅿️ symbols all over the map, as well as dealerships and hidden wrecks. The way they showed the game was pretty awful, but seeing things like that make me pretty excited.
Yes I know it has show rooms, a hotel, electric windows, doors u can open in show rooms, I get all the newsletters but the fact they used their first gameplay to do a Forza is alarming as it' was a small part of what TDU was in it's earlier incarnations.
I just hope they focused on the driving and left all the good stuff for later presentations, the poker and gambling, the housing, hell even collecting vintage car parts, we need all that stuff back.

All I saw from these influencers was crashing. For a bunch of people who live and breathe racing games, I don't understand how almost none of them could control their vehicle. Maybe it's the physics? Anyway, Mack, you are such a legend! Speaking nothing but truth! I'm not sure if you know, but TDU 2 has been kept alive with Project Paradise 2 and another online mod. It's so great to play through the game again with other people, I've even braved it on my wheel, which is pretty fun. Thanks for the video. ✌🏾

I was so hyped to have a test drive, as I remembered it, but with some better handling. Come on, KT surely could have delivered that! Why did they have to make a NFS Forza hybrid. Yuck I am so gutted about the state of this game.
Same here, I've been waiting for a good TDU for the past 15 years like many of us? and now hearing that the studio and the devs who worked in this game have nothing to do with the original TDU, and the gameplay and the level design didn't look good at all. I'm not just disappointed but sad honestly.
Hey Mack, wanted to let you know that you were the main reason why I went out and got Test Drive Unlimited 2 for my PS3 (the PC port for it was trash from what I've heard) a year ago and let me tell ya I fully understand why you hold it in such high regard as I have really enjoyed it myself. Even going as far as playing the solo campaign three times in a row (a damn shame the servers were cut off back in 2018). But yeah, if this new Test Drive does not even capture a half of the magic Test Drive Unlimited 2 had I might just pass on it.
I have both crew games and currently waiting for motorfest to come out. The crew 2 and 1 are nothing like Forza. You don’t get babied through the game with cars tossed at you. Yeah you get unlocks by playing some events and stuff but the cars you buy are way better and harder to earn. I love moving all my cars around in the garage and all. Cant wait for motorfest. If it’s gonna be good. Seems promising
This change in direction of this franchise reminds me of the Dead Rising games. Whenever the Japanese developers hand over the project to a western developer, it completely looses its identity in exchange for casualisation. Is this new Test Drive still being developed by the Japanese team?

I highly doubt TDUSC will be as good as TDU2. There's so little footage of it and the little pieces we have seen so far really shows how much the game is missing and lacking compared to TDU2. Closed beta/playtest with influencers is another sign that they're trying to shove down a garbage product into everyone's throat. Looks like yet another flop AAA game unfortunately.

TDU 1 & 2 will always have a special place in my heart. Had some some good times in those games, and met some people that I'm still friends with till this day. That experience just can't be replicated with today's games.
i want a Carpg! You nailed it, I don't want to get 500 cars after 10 minutes of play. I want to invest time into one car, make it better and make it my own. I loved the used car marked in Test drive where you could see how many km the Car had, the races it did etc. The Car had history, I loved that. And nobody can tell me there is not a marked for these kinds of games, when there are Millions of players roll playing with their car in GTA 5. Test Drive is dead on arrival, nobody wants another forza clone
When I watched the gameplay reveal for the first time, I was shocked to see influencers, promoting the game. Usually, when this happens, it means something ain't right with the game. So they try to use these influencers to sell the game. I have to agree with the guy in this video, it looks like the devs are trying to pull players from Horrizon, to this game, catering to Horrizon players, whilst ignoring what made the first two games great. I've seen this happen so many times in big franchises, they start branching out, trying to compete with other games doing the same thing, but kinda lose vision of what made their games great. I truly hope like the guy in the video, that TDUSC does not end up like a Horrizon knockoff instead of being what it was meant to be, a TDU game. Only time will tell.

What made TDU great was having the HUGE map to cruise at top speed at. This small map is going to get old real quick!
It's a sizable map of extreme complexity with lots of high speed areas and loads to discover. A joy to drive and explore.

I disagree that Forza is bad. I think Forza Horizon 4 is one of my favourite arcade racers. However, it's meant to be a different type of game to Test Drive Unlimited and both have their place. I certainly want Test Drive Unlimited to stay focussed on the driving/lifestyle and not go the route of Forza. They should remain separate and be completely different games, so if the new TDU tries to be Forza, it will simply fail.
TDU is absolutely incredible!!! I spent days and days getting lost in my own little world. May have to visit that car wash 😂
I can understand the frustration that this demo may not have been able to please everyone. The core idea being to show off some actual unscripted gameplay rather than a 2 min gameplay trailer, or scripted E3 style demo. But I can assure you this is an authentic TDU experience (minus the car wash for obvious reasons) that includes most of the elements you enjoyed about the previous versions. You'll earn your cars, bond with them, maximise their performance on your journey. The handling is satisfying, ideal for cruising, or going hell for leather. Racing is part of TDU, as are the many challenges and options to be revealed in the months ahead. I'm confident that when you see future builds, the game structure and the player journey, you'll find something for you.

What is not mentioned is how good the actual gameplay was as well. The heft and inertia of the cars was excellent and the open roads were great to drive on.
Most fun I ever had driving around an open world.
And it was a subtle detail, but a much appreciated one, that each car had its own odometer that showed total miles driven.

With Forza you need to turn on simulation steering and turn off traction control and stability manager and perhaps ABS, but I generally run with ABS. The default settings are made for beginners.

Watched the Test drive unlimited solar crown presentation and all I could think about is Mac's reaction, I was not disappointed.
That was exactly my first impression when I saw the livestream. The presentation actually started quite well. The bit with the hotel looked somewhat like TDU. But after that it went quickly south. I agree with you that TDU is more about lifestyle than racing. That's what has always set the series apart from other racing games. What they showed in that half hour could have been almost any racing game, if you didn't look closely.

Absolutely agree with you. Definitely looks like they have completely missed everything that was good about TDU1. I used to love hooking up and driving round Hawaii with a group of Japanese friends. It was just so liberating. Really looking after the car and just being immersed in clocking up the miles...... The footage I have just seen.... doesn't capture ANY of that... they fucked it up for sure!

The physics are on a decent simulation level in Hardcore mod.

Showrooms look great, you have an apartment rather than a house, there are the Streets and Sharps factions, plus so many new things to experience no other game does. It's a full TDU experience.

I've taken so many shots every time Mack has said "Test Drive Unlimited 2" over the years that my brain has ceased functioning normally

Never played the second one, but TDU was one of my first 360 games - and having been a PC gamer before making that switch, I was blown away by it - it just seemed like a vast limitless game at the time; and an amazing (for me at least) intro into 'next gen' console gaming.
I remember trying to get my first F430, having to do race after race to get enough money - then buying one, and feeling like I actually achieved something; at that time it was quite rare to see them on the virtual roads, so you got to feel like you owned something special - albeit in a virtual realm.
And finding the MV garage, and buying the F4! What a rush that was, belting around the island seeing off most 4 wheelers :D Heck, even the big around the island race felt like an achievement - 60 minutes and a cool million quid (or thereabouts iirc), it was my go to churn to get a few more supercars in my garage.
This new one though.... It's a Forza Horizon clone, and why oh why pick a bunch of idiotic 'influencers' to sell it, they hold power over their followers, who probably won't translate into paying customers.

Hey, I get your fears and doubts. We all want TDUSC to be a true TDU game. We need people like you to join the official server and make your voice heard. KT is actually listening to a lot of feedback from the beginning. A lot more than other companies. Just remember that its their first time making an open world game like this, with limited funding and a small team. We have the same game director as TDU2 tho, and he also worked on TDU1. So on a lot of features, he knows what he's doing. Some things have been changed or left out, and I don't agree with everything either, but this game has a lot of potential. We just opened a feedback thread channel on the official discord. Don't be shy and come join to make your feedback (respectfully) known, so that KT and Nacon see what things are most important to us now. They actually care. Help us make TDU become the game it deserves to be 🙏😇
From the looks of things, it's already three quarters of the way done. I'm not sure how much feedback is really gonna be effectual at this point.

Also, are they gonna print discs with the subpar game onto it and then force updates just to get access to a game that doesn't suck? That's bullshit. And even if it wasn't, barely anybody's gonna wait around patiently for updates anyway unless you pull a full No Man's Sky or a Neverwinter Nights: Enhanced Edition and show that you're fully willing and dedicated to improve the game above and beyond what was expected of you for YEARS with little or no pay coming in.

The fact alone that we even have to give them feedback to not be like Forza Horizon is embarrassing for them and probably indicates that they never even knew what fans wanted out of a new Test Drive game in the first place. What’s annoying is most people who saw the livestream weren’t feeling what was shown and I remember some comments stating it looks like Forza but these CZcamsrs that were invited to the live stream and play the game are actually against fans voicing their concerns even though it doesn’t look like Test Drive in my opinion, and they are using the “oh it’s alpha gameplay” as a shield but we all know it won’t change much if at all before release. Furthermore how can you release a Test Drive game without the ability to buy houses at launch

Mack, you gotta keep in mind that this is alpha gameplay. If you watch Alex Vll's video on it, it goes more in depth of the gameplay about how you can roll the windows down, use your left/right turn signals, take the roof on and off, use windshield wipers, use hazard lights, etc. There are 🅿️ symbols all over the map, as well as dealerships and hidden wrecks.
The way they showed the game was pretty awful, but seeing things like that make me pretty excited.
Yes I know it has show rooms, a hotel, electric windows, doors u can open in show rooms, I get all the newsletters but the fact they used their first gameplay to do a Forza is alarming as it' was a small part of what TDU was in it's earlier incarnations.

Hey Mack, wanted to let you know that you were the main reason why I went out and got Test Drive Unlimited 2 for my PS3 (the PC port for it was trash from what I've heard) a year ago and let me tell ya I fully understand why you hold it in such high regard as I have really enjoyed it myself. Even going as far as playing the solo campaign three times in a row (a damn shame the servers were cut off back in 2018). But yeah, if this new Test Drive does not even capture a half of the magic Test Drive Unlimited 2 had I might just pass on it.

I have both crew games and currently waiting for motorfest to come out. The crew 2 and 1 are nothing like Forza. You don’t get babied through the game with cars tossed at you. Yeah you get unlocks by playing some events and stuff but the cars you buy are way better and harder to earn. I love moving all my cars around in the garage and all. Cant wait for motorfest. If it’s gonna be good. Seems promising

I highly doubt TDUSC will be as good as TDU2. There's so little footage of it and the little pieces we have seen so far really shows how much the game is missing and lacking compared to TDU2. Closed beta/playtest with influencers is another sign that they're trying to shove down a garbage product into everyone's throat. Looks like yet another flop AAA game unfortunately.

I’ll never forget spending countless hours filling in all the roads on TDU2 then finding out I was 1% away. The time I took to find that little part was unreal. I spent so long saving up for the Bugatti veryon super sport it felt such an achievement to buy it

Thats not entirely true. The creative director is Alain Jarniou, and he worked on both TDU 1 and 2, being the creative director for TDU 2.

Not only that, but you seem to be lacking critical thinking skills, because TDU 1 and 2 can still be played by the developers, and therefor, they themselves would know exactly what makes TDU games special. TDU 1 & 2 will always have a special place in my heart. Had some some good times in those games, and met some people that I'm still friends with till this day. That experience just can't be replicated with today's games.

i want a Carpg! You nailed it, I don't want to get 500 cars after 10 minutes of play. I want to invest time into one car, make it better and make it my own. I loved the used car marked in Test drive where you could see how many km the Car had, the races it did etc. The Car had history, I loved that.
And nobody can tell me there is not a marked for these kinds of games, when there are Millions of players roll playing with their car in GTA 5. Test Drive is dead on arrival, nobody wants another forza clone

shocked to see influencers, promoting the game. Usually, when this happens, it means something ain't right with the game. So they try to use these influencers to sell the game.
I have to agree with the guy in this video, it looks like the devs are trying to pull players from Horrizon, to this game, catering to Horrizon players, whilst ignoring what made the first two games great. I've seen this happen so many times in big franchises, they start branching out, trying to compete with other games doing the same thing, but kinda lose vision of what made their games great. I truly hope like the guy in the video, that TDUSC does not end up like a Horrizon knockoff instead of being what it was meant to be, a TDU game. Only time will tell.
