I wouldn't even waste time pirating this. Graphically it looks like a typical 7 year old game with an out of the box game engine made to run on shitty console hardware with as little optimizations required as possible for the developers. The game also seems completely generic like any arcade racer than came out in the last 15 years. I hope nobody would seriously pay full price for this, let alone pirate it.

We might, but we aren't enough to make a difference in the industry. I haven't brought an EA game in over 10 years, and I don't support a few more AAA studios. It's now mostly Indie games that are the Savior of the game's industry.

Yeah, and they shouldn't be, even in 2013. It's just lazy programming, the same with patches. Conan makes a patch basically every other week and all the time it requires to download a full 92GB game. It's not like I have a bandwidth limit, but I'm already pissed off just knowing they don't even care anymore.
This demo makes it painfully obvious why they previously only let influencers play it. Yet another generic arcade racing game that isn't worthy of the name and doesn't compete with the original Test Drive Unlimited, which came out EIGHTEEN YEARS AGO;
• technical issues and problems logging in
• horrendous animations (especially faces)
• abysmal optimisation
• the steering wheel barely turns, and the animations are as smooth as a badgers foreskin
• poor graphics for a game in 2024
• traffic constantly disappears
Tbh these are all points I saw in the original tdu2. It was horrible, but the immersion was all worth it for that trouble.

The reason why that some of the single player titles nowadays require to be online is not only for data gathering but also it keeps you from owning the title as well. Look at Ubisoft taking away The Crew from peoples accounts after they paid for it. The only way to avoid these practices is to buy games from GOG, Emulation and piracy.
I already closed out my Ubisoft, EA and Rockstar accounts. I am a single player gamer and I don't want to deal with this stuff anymore, I already "acquired" the titles that I do like from these companies right before I close the accounts. If Sony going forward starts demanding PSN accounts for single player titles then I am done with Sony games as well. The AAA gaming space needs to crash and crash hard.
Don't forget the other huge reason for them wanting you to create an account, the inevitable push for a monthly subscription.
@@cinifiend Microsoft and eventually Sony will have it to where the only way to play their games is through a Streaming/subscription services. Yeah Gamepass is optional for right now but it is easy to see that after Microsoft bought ABK, the only thing they really care about is streaming/gamepass. They want it to be streaming only... and Sony will follow suit down the road with their own version of it.
It's hilarious that video game piracy went from "oh I can't afford this" or "I'm not allowed to buy more games" to a means to preserve games. Most viewers on this channel are adults and can buy whatever the heck they want, but why should anyone? Always online trash, weird account linking, no way to actually own your game.. It's absolutely terrible.
I bet there are many people out there with their hard drives full of gog games and other DRM free stuff, just in case.
@@PinePizza I am sure there are plenty of people that have HDD/SSD full of games, I am one of those people. Bought a 4TB external SSD a couple of months back and already have close to half of it filled up with games. GOG games, Emulators and other acquired titles.

SS14, DRG and private servers for certain games are the only multiplayer I can stand
There are so many headaches like this with PC gaming that primarily keep me a console gamer, it's just not worth the trouble. I will say I really love GOG though, it reminds me of how PC games used to be in the 2000's. You just have the game files on your PC, you click on the icon, and the game opens. No launcher needed, no extra crap running in the background.
I quit the demo as soon as I saw I needed to create and link a new account, you're right they can fuck right off. Pisses me off as that was a 45GB download for naff all. If I had a data cap I'd be pissed! They should state more clearly a new account sign-up i required to play. Oh well, uninstalled.

my rockstar account was stolen. The hoops you have to jump through to get it back is absurd. I pirated gta 5 and Red dead 2 because it was easier than messing with that BS to get the games I paid for more than once already.

After you logged into their surver, they would send you a e-mail with a number to use as another check. Then you woud have to "prove" you are a human. Ubisoft did this to me. I hate them.

Regulators need to step in as soon as possible to stop this crap before it becomes (more) common place. The EU is waking up to it, we all know the US won't bother though and the UK just does what the US does these days now we're not longer in the EU. So yeah... as with many things, being protected will depend on where you live. Fun times!

Of course the big companies are pushing online only so they will have full control and can pulled the plug on the game whenever they want. Sadly we the customer won't own the games we buy (especially AAA). Thank goodness for the indie games though.
I remember SimCity's always online the devs said was vital to the running of the game. After it bombed partly because of that it was quietly patched out.
Still, why I have a software firewall. You'd be shocked how many games phone home.
The game runs like hot garbage as well, I'm getting 25 - 30fps on high settings at 4k it does 40 - 50 FPS at 1440p, DLSS basically does nothing other than make the image blurry at any setting, the game is also a VRAM hog using over 16gb on the ultra setting! I'm running a 7800X3D and a 3080. If you want 60fps 4k max settings they recommend a 4090 which is Ludacris. the game looks about as good as Forza horizon 5.
Imagine purchasing a hard copy of a game in the game store and before you leave they make you create 2 accounts to access the game to play it. LOL

Just checked the Steam page for the game. It's not even out yet but it already has 4 DLC's listed on the page which consist of 7 cars in total, some outfits for your character and stickers for your cars. Add to that the online only aspect and I'm done as well. F*ck it.

I bought a PS2 the other day, never had one, had a PS3 original with backwards compatibility, but for some reason Scarface didn't want to run properly. So, got a silver PS2 for £60 with a stack of games.
It's really quite refreshing to just pop the disc in, no account, just play.
Likewise with my old PCs, pop the disc in, install and play.
I'm still running windows 7 on my main PC, it's a dual CPU, 12 core, 32GB of RAM perfectly usable system, and yes, steam still works even though they threatened to pull the plug. I can still buy, install, run games. Unless they're windows 10 only titles.
I don’t mind the actual gameplay of the game, and even though it sadly isn’t super reminiscent of the old TDU’s. The thing that makes me mad is that the servers are so buggy that I can’t even join a race to progress through the demo! I feel like no one is talking about this. Sometimes the servers are so bad that I can’t even pick up Solar coins. It’s a cool concept to bring back the TDU vibe, but I hope they patch it and fix it up to in 3 months time.
Glad to see someone else who’s so annoyed by all this online sign in BS in modern gaming. They act like they’ve given you the game for free, like we should be grateful for having to give up all our info to play the game we PAID FOR.
You just need to remember to leave a nasty review before you get your money back.
Games nowdays are a complete nightmare. Seasons, DLC, paywalls! Pay to play etc. 99.9 percent of games need months of patching also to be stable

But online only live service is an instant dealbreaker now after Crew 1.
I played the demo for like 20 minutes and immediately uninstalled it. Horrible performance, looks like a 2010 game, runs at third of the framerate of Forza Horizon 4. Car handling is completely off, I couldn't even start a race, because they're all always online and the server was too unstable to start an AI race with only one actual player. The camera is extremely stiff, and I've never seen a game that needs more temporal stabilization than this, so many ugly jaggies without it. Using DLSS ultra quality (33% of render resolution) gave me 10% extra performance boost.
I have no idea, who the target demographics for this game are.

you arent missing out, even if you managed to make an account it will put you into a 300+ player queue to even let you enter the game, which then reveals that every single race in the game forces you to enter matchmaking (even singleplayer time trials), which will either put you into a lobby with people who cant drive and ram you off with no chance of starting the race solo, or just straightup giving you a connection error and kicking you back into freeroam
its such a shame, the map and handling model are seriously good, and they are reusing car assets from tdu2 meaning the car list and detail is solid aswell, the always online bullshit completely butchers a game that at least had a slither of potential underneath

That was everything I needed from this video. Impossible size for a demo, acc linking, and recommending a better game instead.
Mack recommended 2 games actually, both of which are delisted and have no official servers. TDU2 got an unofficial server that you have to download mods to get onto and is full of bugs. I played on it, found it hadn't aged well and then it crashed to desktop 30 minutes after I started.

I won’t play a game that requires an online connection. I have abandoned steam and only play games on GOG. Yes, there are are less games available but I’ll never have a situation like I did on steam with Conan exiles where one day the Chinese bought the company and now it’s demanding an online connection. That was the last time I logged onto steam. For those of you who say they’ve changed it back so that it doesn’t, remember that they changed it at all. FU steam.

Shocking that theo original TDU , a game from 2006 is a more feature complete and playable experience than Solar Crown.

What does it mean to be a Test Drive fan? It's an open world racing game of which their have been dozens of brands and like 1 or 2 test drive games?

I cant believe they thought this was a good idea to release this "version" of the game as a demo. My starter car the Alpine was a horrible experience, the physics were off, I bought the Lancia and all of a sudden the driving was fixed. Anyone else have the same problem? I'm curious.
Fun fact! Steam isn't DRM. It HAS it, but it's entirely optional. It can be nothing more than a delivery mechanism if the developer wants it to be. The most you need is an account to make the "purchase" (some games are free of course). You don't even have to have Steam installed or running for your game to work if that's what you want.
Exactly, I only use Steam to buy games. I like having a Library thing, but the Steam one sucks, so I have one that automatically adds all my games from Steam, GOG and Epic.

Empire and Napoleon needed Steam and I'm thinking "wtf is this howcome these need steam when the previous 2 didn't" and after a lengthy email conversation Steam couldn't answer WHY you need Steam itself or why it should exist, only you need Steam and a Steam account to install the game. @velvetinedrapes4359 you don't need Steam. Your brother bought you the games on Steam, though. He could have alternatively bought them on GoG or on disc, and you'd need access to GoG or the discs to install the games.

Agree, I've stopped purchasing games that require me to link 3rd party accounts or come with bullshit drm.
For what it's worth though, Steam itself does not enforce any DRM. There are many games you can download on steam and then launch directly from the executable without steam (or even copy it to a different pc to run). There used to be at least, not sure if that's changed in more recent times. But you know what? Those games did absolutely fine, so DRM is not necessary.

I just re-bought an old PS3 just to play Test Drive Unlimited 2 (and Shift 2 Unleashed) again. It does work, unfortunately you have to wait for 5+ minutes for the game to start because it is unsuccessfully looking for the game servers.

As soon as I heard I needed an acc to play the demo I immediately stopped the download and un-installed what was downloaded.
I watched some video footage from random players and the game looks horrid. What a shame, and the game costs about 79,99 for the gold edition
