Way to go!!
Oooh, this was really helpful and encouraging (especially the part about what NOT to do) 😁~ I'm looking forward to the course and the art challenge! My portfolio is currently at zero, and having prompts, challenges, deadlines, critique and community would really help a lot.
Glad it was helpful! I so look forward to see what you come up with in the course!!
Hey Ness ❤️

Thanks for sharing this lovely info Ness! Would just like to know if you would be reviewing the pieces prepared by the students on the private group?
Hi Renelle :) Yes all the pieces posted on the group or emailed to me will be reviewed, even sketches!
@@ArtBusinesswithNess awesome! Feels like a great opportunity! Really like the tips you share! 💕
lordy...i missed the program deal of $27😪 only just found your channel ...awesome video
Awww oh no I'm so sorry hun! It's $47 now but also has improvements and bonus content :) www.artbusinesswithness.com/PPPcourse
I have a web portfolio going. It’s been a struggle honestly just because I work two jobs and didn’t have a good focus on strictly what children’s book agents look for. Your videos are helping immensely!
I'm glad it was helpful! Lack of time is a big issue, but if you keep going one little step at a time, you will accomplish your goals :)
I needed this. Thank you Ness 🤍
My pleasure Aliaa, you're so sweet!
Certainly more inclined to join this one. I struggle with formatting a spread as a traditional artist. I have a scanner that will not scanner two page spread so I have to piece two pages together and getting it wrong is extremely frustrating 😫. But I think later today I'll get this! What do the deadlines look like? Thank you! Lots of love,
I feel you Heather! I bought a bigger scanner last year but before that had to stitch my illustrations for years including on one professional book, it is such a pain! The lessons will be delivered 1 per day for 10 days, after that the deadlines for the art challenge is 1 week per illustration. However, even if you don't finish, you can submit and will get critiqued on whatever stage you're at (sketch, or even just thumbnails!)
@@ArtBusinesswithNess so I'd get day 1 lesson do it, then send it to Facebook group? And do that everyday? And I just got a scanner but it's already problematic just to get it to connect properly every time. Thanks
No no, I'm so sorry I think my answer was worded in a confusing way. The lessons are delivered 1 per day, but the challenge and critiques don't start until after all the lessons are done :) So August 1st to 10th your receive your lessons - then the challenge start and you will have 1 week to do each piece. Makes sense?
Hi' new subscribere here from Philippines. Can i ask if what kind of art style is the best for Children's Book? Thanks
There isn't one perfect style for picture books :) If you look in book stores you will see, there is a lot of variety! It's more important WHAT you draw than your style. Choose children appropriate topics, themes that appeal to children, with a focus on characters and storytelling.
This is wonderful advice to share. I wonder if anyone can help me with one thing which is is it a good or bad idea to have two different styles of illustration in one website portfolio as I like to work in a colourful children illustration style and a illustrated realistic style.
Hi Shane! It's very common for artists to love drawing multiple styles and to chafe at the idea of having to choose. Having just the one signature style can help you become more memorable, but in general having 2 styles won't hurt you if they're well separated and organized on your website. HOWEVER you must make enough pieces (at least 12) to demonstrate EACH style, and since different publishers will fit each style you'll have to do research for each as well. In general, I'd recommend starting with one just to simplify your life at first. You can always add another style later! Getting started in picture books is hard enough without going in on hard mode, you know?
@@ArtBusinesswithNess oh thank you for the advice, greatly appreciated. Seeking out publishers and ad agencies in Ireland is stressful fun.
@@shaneosullivan4676 "Stressful fun" is such a great way to put it!
Sent my stuff out to 22 and got zip back.
That's a great start but 22 is not that much for a mailing! It's not abnormal not to hear back from so few emails, and the most important email isn't the initial pitch, it's the follow up! We have to email more than once.
I don't have a portfolio yet 😑
That's ok, you can make one from now on :)
@@ArtBusinesswithNess yea, thanks.. I will be glad to share it with you once I'm done
Building a portfolio. Going slow
Slow is good! One step at a time :)
