Anoosha honestly your videos are better then taking classes from a university. i have never come across any artist who guides and explains everything with such transparency, detail and from every possible angle. Truly appreciate and value the content and the effort you have put into making these videos.Thank You.
Thank you for your kind words!
Your channel is a blessing. I mean it. You're a huge inspiration to me as an aspiring artist, and each video of yours leaves me incredibly inspired and uplifted. Thank you for taking the time to make content on this platform!
Thank you so much for your kind words!
Don’t feel bad about using your identity to inspire your work! I know when I was a kid there were very few stories that featured kids who looked like me. You are helping the industry every time you do a project that showcases your cultural identity. Keep it up 💜
Thank you so much!
I illustrated my own book... Then I illustrated a children's book for a student organization. I was going through a rough patch personally when I did my last book project and I don't think that it was my absolute best work. I would like to spend the summer working on a professional children's book portfolio and start looking for work! Thank you for your advice.
ur prob the only illustrator ive seen that completely lays all the info out in an understandable format!! thank u
Wow, thank you for your kind words!!
I know you worked so so hard on this video and the negotiation one! Thank you so much for these in depth videos. These are awesome!
You are so welcome!
one of my resolutions this year was to create a portfolio in children's book illustration. I watched a lot of videos on the topic and yours is the most insightful and detailed one so far! Thank you for your work!
This is the first video from your channel that I’ve seen. I’m an older Caucasian male trying to reinvent myself after working as an artist in advertising for many years. I have quietly dreamt of illustrating for children’s literature for a long time. This video was very inspiring and informative to me. I’m so grateful to hear a bit of your story on top of all the excellent information you’ve provided. I love our diverse world, and I’m so glad you are in it. 😌🙏🏻
Thank you for sharing these! Your work has been so helpful!
Wow Anoosha! This was juicy thank you so much for sharing this valuable content. It really does help with self taught beginner illustrators like myself. I'm literally taking notes the whole way and i resonated with all the drawing subjects you've bought up, which makes me feel I am on heading in the right direction! Thank you so much!
How do I like this a million times. I cannot thank you enough for sharing this and so much. You have inspired me more than I have been in a very long time. I’m not anywhere near ready to have a portfolio but watching this video has made me so ready to start working so hard towards this. Thank you thank you thank you ❤️
This video is pure gold! Stuffed full of useful information. Thanks so much for sharing!

Amazing video, Anoosha! I illustrated a few children's books in the last few years and currently, I'm more interested in publishing my own books. But I wish I had seen this video when I started out! So so informative and detailed!
Thank you!!
This video is LOADED with good advice. I'm currently working on building my portfolio so I come back and reference this vid over and over. Thanks so much for taking the time to put this together! :)
I’m glad it was helpful!

Thank you SO SO much for this video! You are a huge inspiration to me!! Right now i’m working under a published mentor to prepare a book pitch, so I’m trying to prepare my portfolio as well. Also I bought stickers from your shop since it’s closing down, can’t wait to get them!💞
Thank you so so much!!!!
This is an incredible video! Thank you for taking the time to share your own experiences and tips. I've written down and took notes all throughout the video and it is definitely a inspiration and great video for building my portfolio. Thank you Anoosha!

Thank you!
Great and such a helpful video! Thank you for sharing your experience 🏵
Thank you so much Anoosha🥺 These videos mean so much to me especially as someone who didn't go to art school! Thank you for all the advice from the bottom of my heart😭💐🌸
You're so welcome!
Such a infomative and great video. Thanks a lot!
Thankyou so much anoosha. I feel so proud of you as I am Pakistani too. And just in the beginning of my digital illustration journey. And your videos helps alot.
Thank you so much 😀
You have given me so much trustworthy knowledge in such a short period of time. You're answering questions and covering topics that I hadn't even thought of. I love how transparent you are with everything. There's nothing more annoying than artists/makers that won't help or share to help others grow. You have given me lots of homework and I really appreciate it. At around 33:50 you mentioned you might have some resources on how to draw different races. Would you happen to be able to share those with us? Thank you
Thank you! I just added some, sorry I missed it earlier!
@@AnooshaSyed thank you so much
Very detailed and informative. Thanks Anoosha !!!....for all your efforts in putting out valuable content
My pleasure 😊
What amazing video!! Very clarifying and inspirational! It was a boost to work on my portfolio!
Thank you I’m happy it was helpful!
Thank you soo much for sharing all of this information. :) Your videos are deluminators for me. When Ron Weasly is lost and turns off the light to see where to go and then he sees the light in the direction which solves his problem instantly. . :D I hope you got the reference but seriously , thanks a ton! :)
Super comprehensive video, @Anoosha Syed, thanks! Passed on to a friend who's entering the field.
Thank you!
Hi Anoosha! This video came just in time for me!! I've been preparing a children's book portfolio but have been pretty stuck. Thank you so much Anoosha for sharing your knowledge and great advice. I don't really know what to say, but you really inspire me and I learned so much from you. Thanks for mentioning the topic about showing identity through the portfolio. Now I have more courage to show my identity as an Indonesian Muslim girl in my artwork.
I really look forward to your next video. Hope you are always healthy ❤️
Thank you so much!!
Thanks. 🍁
I’m new to your channel but I feel more confident about pursuing a career in children’s book illustrations after watching some of your videos 🥰 thank you for doing this Anoosha 🥰

Glad you enjoyed it!
If you don’t want to go to art college what are some ways of getting credit ills in editorial design and illustration
This is a good video and there is a lot of information. It would be helpful to have bullet points of the topic in text so we can see it as you talk.
I love your shirt! It’s so cute🥺
Thank you!
You're the bestest!!❤️
Thanks you for amazing video 😊😊😊
Most welcome 😊
Can I do illustrations or book cover versions of shows and movies I watched or never watched?
When making my portfolio do I put finish work in like 2 or 3 styles orrrr do I actually need to show a bit of the story in my illustrations?
Hello Anoosha! First of all I wanna say you are loving and really pretty and I've been loving your videos. They have been a huge help. I wanna know if you could make a video about whether I need to go to art college to be a good illustrator or an illustrator at all and share your personal thoughts about it too. Thank you so much
Thank you so much!! I will definitely keep that topic in mind :)
Alhmdulillah , I found out your channel🦋
Hi Anoosha, I'm an aspiring book illustrator and I have a question regarding graphic novels and comics: do they count as chapter books? I'm mainly interested in going into chapter books and book covers, but I love graphic novels and I'm going to write and illustrate one for my bachelors thesis. Does that make sense in regards to my portfolio? Would I make an extra rubric for it or include it in "chapter books"?
Thank you so much for this channel and your amazing insight btw. You make me a lot less scared of going into this field!
Was that Faith Schepper you mentioned who illustrated the samurai book? Might look her up! Thank you for posting this resource! I’m working on my portfolio now and have found this advice really helpful :)
How do you tell if your interest or niche is too generic? I love cats and could spend a career drawing cat books, but I’m not sure how much work that would get me because pretty much h everyone can draw a cat.
I just found this channel and it's amazing! You shared so much useful information! So inspiring. I would like to draw older kids, stories about teens and I don't know if there is a market for that.
Thank you! That’s more likely suited for middle grade and young adult chapter books and covers!
@@AnooshaSyed omg you replied! Thanks! When i complete my portfolio I'd like to know what someone professional thinks. Do you ever do that for your CZcams followers?
@@minaart6983 I do portfolio reviews on my patreon!
Thank you! What if you do art by good ol' fashion paint and paper? What size would you use? What kind of paper? I'm doing watercolor... If I want to do a project, namely a picture book, what do you suggest? I'm asking because it appears that a lot of the illustrations look like graphics or create with a computer.
My latest book is done traditionally! The paper would of course depend on what medium you’re using and personal preference. For size I personally like to go 120% larger than my final trim size so I can get more detail in but some people like to work at scale
Dear Anoosha.
Thank you for all the content you’re sharing and inspiring us. Your energy spreads around and makes us to create more and have fun.
I have a question if you could kindly answer or direct me if you have a video about it.
What printer if you print at home, or printing companies you use to print your artwork professionally/for sale?
I truly appreciate your reply.
Thank you again. ❤️
Thank you! I use a canon pixma at home and also like using Catprint for the printing services.
thank you so much Anoosha, I've been following you for a while and have been learning a lot from you! If I may ask, when you do Book cover illustrations, do you also do the graphic design part such as text, spine text, anything that's technicall at all, or do you just provide an illustration and then another person does the rest? I hope my question makes sense. Thank you!
Sometimes I am asked to do the title if they are looking for something illustrative, but all the actual design work is done in-house by the publishers design team, I only provide the illustration!
thank you !@@AnooshaSyed
Loved this video Anoosha. Thank you so much for the detailed guidance. ☺️ I so want to buy a print from your store but international shipping is not available it seems. 🙈 Hope you consider opening your store again and maybe, make international shipping available. 😄🙈
Hi! Thank you so much for your support but unfortunately because of recent shipping rules on sales tax, I can't do international shipping :(
This video was so helpful! My dream is to become a children's book illustrator but am unsure where to start.
I am also curious where your crayon box shirt is from? Thanks!
I'm glad it was helpful!! If you haven't already, be sure to check out my "STARTING A CAREER IN ILLUSTRATION' video which tackles other topics like promoting your work and submitting to art directors :)

I want to translate a english book in urdu language. i don't want to do any change in it.just I want to write meaning in urdu language. what should I do now for it. please help me.
how long does it take u to complete 32 pages? and 1 page on average? im new to this, still figuring out procreate and its taking me longer than i expected. would really appreciate anyone’s input on time❤️
Where do I find children’s short stories to practice my illustrations on? Any suggestions please? Thanks so much for this video. I’ve learnt a lot.
Searching for 'public domain' stories or fairytales is a good start!
I LOVE ANIMALS TALKING LIKE PEOPLE CONVERSING TO EACH OTHER NARRATING THE STORY. It’S MAGICAL & IT TELLS THE STORY & TEACHES SOMETHING SPECIAL LIKE THE CHICKEN LITTLE STORY WHO INFLUENCED HER ANIMAL FRIEND TO GO TELL THE KING THE SKY IS FALLING. IS THIS STILL THE TREND ANIMALS STORY WITH A IMPORTANT LESSON TO LEARN FROM???🙀
Maam.. I m. Creative, but i have no idea how to start.. Plz tell me. How can i have same picture/character drawn in every page?
Great video! Was wondering which app you use for editing your videos and could you make a tutorial on how you paint your art on procreate?
I'll try to do that one day!
I use Premiere Pro for editing :)
@@AnooshaSyed Thank you for your reply! :)
DO YOU THINK I COULD DO RHYTHM & RHYME SHORT POEMS COMBINED WITH A FEW PICTURES IN THE BACKGROUND SUCH AS ANIMALS, SCENERIES OF SUMMER. SPRING & FALL TO ILLUSTRATE THE SHORT POEM. THE ART THAT ADDS TO THE POETRY. I COULD SPECIALIZE AND BUILD MY PORTFOLIO TO ILLUSTRATE THIS IDEA OR SHOT IDEAS WITH RHYMES WITH MORE PICTURE OR DRAWINGS. WHAT DO DO THINK ???🤔
You wonderful 💞
Your video was really inspiring to me! The idea of making a song into a picture book style reminded me of a song I used to love when I was younger so I want to do it for the portfolio i'm building, but I don't know if using the song will be a copyright infringement, I would love to have some advice on that, thanks!
Avoid using copyrighted material for your portfolio! I was thinking using song lyrics as more like inspiration than actually using the text within your project :)
@@AnooshaSyed OH you are right, thank you so much for answering!
Dear Anoosha.
Thank you for sharing such valuable content and for all the inspiration. Your energy affects and makes us to create more and have fun.
I have a question if you could kindly answer, or direct me if you have video about it.
What printer (if you print at home), or printing companies you use to print your artwork professionally/for sale?
I truly appreciate your reply.
Thank you again. ❤️
Hi! I use a canonTS6220 at home, or use catprint.com for outsourced printing
@@AnooshaSyed thank you so much 🙏😊
Thank you so much for making this, so helpful! I am confused about the fan art though, since it seems so legally risky. I've been avoiding it due to copyright reasons, even though it may help me a lot. Would you care to clarify? Thank you!
This is a good read that I hope answers your questions! adventureswithart.com/can-you-put-fan-art-in-your-portfolio/
Some hard truths in here for me. I thought my portfolio was starting to look halfway decent, but I'm way off the mark. Again.
Do you need an actual website, or is something like Facebook enough to use as a website?
Ekua Holmes is a great illustrator you should check out
Send the link to your on line store please would like to take a peek at it txs 🤔
I have a question ! :o You said "if you are weirdly obsessed about a very specific topic and known for drawing it all the time, lean into it!". I loooove the color blue, and have the same love for cats. So in my art I often make blue backgrounds, things that are blue, I draw cats a lot. But I feel like building a porfolio around a specific color isn't the best idea. I'm I wrong ? 😅 Could I focus on cats ? Thank you if someone answer ! 😁
If you don’t have a portfolio then why not start with blue + cats? In my experience art about things you love often has more heart and it shows, plus you can always add other elements later?
@@zoopothecary Thank you for the answer ! 🤗💙
Omg now I know why I don’t get any jobs 🥺💔
yiy
Thank you so much for all of your super helpful tips!! I do have a question, tho, that's totally unrelated if you don't mind. As a Pakistani Muslim, are you against burqas?
Uhihjihhkugghh एचजेजी
dude, your eyeballs are huuuuge
Thank you so much for this, Anoosha!! I'm trying to figure out how to re-design my portfolio (and finally make it specific to children's book illo) so this couldn't come at a better time! 💕 All your content is so insightful and helpful, you're seriously an inspiration 🥰🥰
You're so welcome! :)
