I must have adhd because after watching this for 5 minutes my mind was just wandering all over the place. Maybe I should right an adult illustrated book about adults who cannot keep a train of thought.....a guy goes to the coffee shop and ends up at the zoo instead because he is easily distracted by fleeting thoughts.
That’s me too lol
sameee
also that would be so much fun to read!!
What a very humble, honest & egoless teacher! As an art & design graduate with a bachelors degree, my university training was seriously lacking in the lovely qualities that Will Terry possesses! Thank you so much for sharing your experience with us!
Wow! Thank you!
When you mentioned finding a class to learn about design; Today Art Station Learning went free for the rest of the year thanks to a grant from Epic Games. I think there are definitely courses on there about that. And more. Over 160 courses. Definitely something to take advantage of as an artist!
That’s fantastic!
thanks for the info mate!
i luv u
These seem still to be free at Feb 2022
@@Aprilforevergreen still free at March 21! :D
This list was so great! There are many things I need to work on - it was super helpful to hear you talk about it, thank you!
That Children’s Book Pro logo is the best thing I’ve seen all year! Love it!
Thank God I came across this video of yours. I love drawings and always have that difficulty to get the right color for my drawings that's why I ended up drawing in black and white (I draw digitally). I am so grateful that I got to learn these tips from you. Definitely helps a lot! Thank you so much, Will Terry!
I’m flattered!
Long time no see for these kind of videos!! I miss them! 😄glad to see you doing them again👏🏻✨
I am so happy you decided to make this video. I'm an aspiring children's author/illustrator. You're very talented!
So many useful and amazing tips! Thank you for creating this! Will definitely try to keep them in mind and practice more wisely 😊
Nothing like the voice of experience sharing the gems discovered on the creative journey. Thank you Will.
You're welcome Norman! :)
It's very good to see you again, Will.
Thank you for posting this video.
You provide so much value in a video and you explain so well. I can’t wait to purchase your classes. This is one of the best sales technique you could’ve done. Congrats, and thank you
I would love to see a start to finish video of an illustration done in acrylic. Many thanks in advance. Just trying different mediums and would love to see how you use the medium.
Thanks Will. Awesome advice. You are a brill teacher. I am always learning and re remembering concepts to continue to create better art.
Thank you Judy! I love teaching!!!
I would love to watch 20 hours of you painting this illustration from start to finish
Wow - you have an attention span! Perhaps I could do one and speed it up to double? You better watch it if I do it! :)
@@willterryart I'll watch too, count me in!!
@@willterryart Yes, please! I love your work. I will watch it at 0.5 speed :)
Count me in as well. Your work is brilliant!
Woot woot! Glad to see you back on YT!
Eric!!! It's nice to be making videos again! :)
GREATEST information. Your video was so intuitive. It explained stuff that was frustrating me so badly because I didn't know enough to know that I didn't know. 😂 This was step one to becoming able to view a piece of children's book art and understand it. I was absolutely ignorant about everything, which is odd because I've always drawn and appreciated art. How could I have been so profoundly clueless? You should see my first attempts. No, nobody should! Lol, but now I want to try again. THANK YOU!
Really informative in a Crystal clear way! I learned a lot. Thank you so much!
Man that was some really good advices. I applied quickly some of these to a piece i've done and see immediatly an improvement. Thanks a lot
You are very welcome!
I'm finishing up the final sketches for my first children's book illustration and this was sooo helpful! Thank you. :)
Will, I thoroughly enjoyed this video. Thank you for creating it.
My heartfelt gratitude to you for this invaluable lesson
Thank you so much for sharing your pro tips! I am interested in taking your classes. I am a complete beginner and want to illustrate my own book, my drawing skills are probably at a beginner level, but I have a natural ability that seems to help me to learn pretty quick. I want to know what class you would recommend to start. I want to draw a very simple children's book. My problem is I get over detailed and loose the simple "feel." I want to create a cohesive visual story that is simple yet effective. The problem is being consistent with perspectives and story throughout the book. I am great at one off drawings or digital paintings, but when it comes to telling a visual story that is visual consistent and simple, I get off track. Where would you recommend I start? Thanks a bunch!
It's been a while since I watched one of your videos. I forgot how good they were. Thanks for the great advice.
Thank you!
So Cool that I found this, I am on day ONE of my illustrator journey. Thank you for these ten points!
I feel like obtaining this info was too easy and it's making me feel guilty that I didn't discover it myself. Thanks for a real vid like this I think it will help me a lot
Thank you Wade!!! What a great insight!
Thank you for your amazing teaching and technique... Bests regards from Cancún!
You're welcome - can I come and visit!? :)
Lots of good tips 👏❤️😊I’ve written my first children’s book, excited to illustrate it. I’m not an illustrator, I love to paint with acrylics most of time,, yet I used to draw times ago l. Now I wonder what media would be best : to paint or to draw? Pros and cons of each ( and no, computer technology does not speak to me)…I really thought the decision would be intuitive as in everything I do but I don’t have clarity in this one…thank you. 🌸🙏😿
This is so well presented, i really appreciate your thoughts on this, love the work too!
Thank you!!!
Amazing, thank you for putting all this together. This one's a keeper for me. You've answered a lot nagging questions I didn't realize I had about colour and so much more.
Fantastic illustration. Good to see someone that wants other Artists to succeed where Art Education has failed. Bravo. 🤗
Amazingly valuable video. Thank you
I like the way you illustrate, your drawings are unique. All the best.
Watching and absorbing! ~ Jenn
excellent--------tell a good story-----------the HARD PART-----the "WHAT AM I TRYING TO SAY" part! good reminder as I am painting today..thanx
Thanks man! That means a lot coming from a legend like you!
Great video! I still need to learn a lot, even though I have several years drawing…
This is gold
Thanks
You are very welcome!!!
This was so helpful, thank you Will 💖
Thanks for a great video! Welcomeback!
You're welcome! Nice to be creating again.
Thank you sir! Very helpful
Love your videos!
Thank you so much for the video and lessons ! Great work, I love the idea in your illustration. But I must say that it felt a bit uneasy to look at the turlte because it seems to be supposed to be walking but it's almost only standing on one 'foot'. I actually had to ggogle it but turtles seem to walk by moving opposite 'legs' at a time :)
Mine runs :)
Thank you so much for telling us how to better ourselves from your vast experience. You are very talented. Just a little note about your turtle painting. First, it's beautiful, but because I love animals and I have two turtles, I thought about how sad it was that the turtle carrying his little RV on his back and how he could never get inside of the cute little RV himself. I mean he could not put his head and body in there where he could enjoy it. I know that's probably weird to most people, but these are the kinds of things that come to my mind. LOL.
This was extremely helpful and I appreciate your straightforward, unpretentious approach. Thank you.
Alright! New video!!
Great video! Great Tips!
Super stuff.
thank you VERY much!!!!
Your work is amazing!!!
Awww - thank you!
I love Bonaparte Falls Apart! Very helpful lessons. Thank you :)
It's a treasure!
Do you sketch freehand then upload it to work on it digitally? or is it all digital
Thank you so much for making this video. It was extremely helpful!
What program does he use for creating his art?
I use procreate for my drawings and Photoshop for the painting.
@@willterryart thank you!!
Just in the middle of Your vid and wanted to ask.... when You say sketch, did you draw by hand with a pencil or did you do the sketch in Photoshop itself? Thanks.
I drew it on my iPad…I could have used paper but it’s more convenient for me to have it digital.
@@willterryart I am old skool lol! Thank You 🙏🏾
This was so worth the time
lol Jack Squat Will sounds like a character
Did I say “Jack Squat” in that video!?
Thanks for sharing these. I'd never heard of some of them before.
Oh how helpful! Thank you.
So many gems of wisdom here. Thanks so much.
This is seriously helpful! Thanks Will x
So many answers! Thank you Will.
Hi will, i am a children book illustraor. I get used to draw on CMYK color mode. Is it ok if i start it with CMYK? Waht do you think Will?
Thank you this is very helpful
Don't they do something to movies now called a "treatment" or something? Where they apply a filter overlay that gives the movie a certain look?
I'm happy you mentioned neutralizing colors. I went to school for art education, but I resigned a few years ago to raise my kids at home. Now I want to work from home and I've received some illustration opportunities but my first color job (I started with maze books and dot to dots) the client wants very bright saturated colors on everything! And I'm new to illustration but the art principles are basically the same from painting in college. Oversaturation looks bad. But when I try to explain that (not trying to sound like I know better, I'm just trying to make the art look better) they say, well it's for kids so everything has to be bright. But they don't see what I see and kids books with good art do not have bright saturated colors on every single thing, character, or item. It's a real struggle and I'm tempted to say no to the project but I need a job and to build a portfolio. 🤷🏻♀️ I want to do work I'm proud of and not just do what I'm told for the job, but they can pay someone else or they can pay me. I'd like it to be me lol! 😂
Thankyou.. Lucky me find this usefull content
Greate Story greate illustration nice job!
Thanks Michael!
Cool...thanks for sharing.
Amazing video. Super helpful and really informative. Thanks for sharing
Great information well presented.
Thank you!
What a great video. Really helpful.
Great content, subscribed!
I really love your videos. Glad you are back.
thank you so much ❤🌺👍
Wonderful advice. Thank you! (I think he's a tortoise though)
This is awesome! I'm a children's book write and have been using illustrators in fiver, which have been so unreliable. I'm thinking about learning to illustrate myself but this seems so overwhelming.
Can I ask what your rates are per page or if you illustrate per book on a package?
Thanks!
I am not taking illustration work right now - too many projects but thank you for thinking of me.
Thanks for sharing this lesson 👍
I have to be careful watching stuff like this. It makes me want to quit my job and just draw.
30 minutes for that? Keep overexplaining obvious stuff sir...seems to work somehow.
