  • How much total difference is there between the Dark Terror and Micro Dark from Orange? Is it worth spending the extra to get the full valve experience? Or will the Micro get you where you need to go?

To quote my wife: "I have no bloody idea what he's talking about, and I don't care, either." Also: "Why did he stop talking?"

You just have to ask yourself: "Is the dark terror worth $460 more?"

The palm muting really showed the difference in bass response in the two. The larger Dark definitely had thicker muting.

    Very fitting shirt choice.

For a more accurate test, get a decibel meter and put it in front of speaker so we can see. Also, set each amp volume at exactly 6am, 9am, noon, 3pm and max. For each volume, do the same for gain. Settings must be exactly the same for each amp to compare output difference accurately. Putting one at near zero volume and the other at 3pm is not a real test.

I have a Micro Dark. I play it through a 12” Fender Super Champ cab, and it’s so damn loud... The night I got the speaker cab, I set up in my garage to test it out. It was so loud that a neighbor came pounding on the garage door. She said it sounds awesome but it’s making her room shake.

The micro isn't bad, but it does sound a lot thinner - I wouldn't want to use it in a mix or anything but you could probably do far worse for the money for a practice amp!

Three tube pre-amp vs. a single tube preamp. There is going to be a difference, but the Micro Dark sounds great for what it is.

Can't really tell a difference, I'm surprised but didn't want a Micro Dark because It's a hybrid, solid state with tubes, I want a Full tube amp but like I said I can't tell the difference. 20-watt Electric Head Features: ... Hybrid preamp and solid state power push 20 watts of power. Shape and gain controls go from country cleans to savage high gain.

Dude, your tones are the best ones all over youtube these days. I definitely need your entire signal chain.

  • @shadowgiratinasevilclone1357

Honestly it just sounds like the difference can be bridged with a good overdrive/boost pedal in front.

honestly if im spending 600 bucks on an amp i'd buy something with a 3 band eq, but i'm not gonna afford that anyway, so micro dark it is!

I was trying to think of a way to put my thought into words. Then you said everything I was thinking. The really impressive element is that they sound the same tonally. You can tell they belong to the same family, not every company do it. Wether it be guitars or amps or pedals. Its 100% an Orange sound and now I will get the two micro's, there just awesome little amps.

You should run the Micro Dark pre-amp into the Dark Terror power amp and see how close it is to the Dark Terror.

It’s great having a Micro Dark around. I love having that tone available when needed.

I use the Micro Dark with the EVH 5150 distortion pedal in front of it and run it through a 12” Celestion Creamback in a custom Seismic Audio cabinet and it sounds just as good as the Dark Terror in my opinion.

Another great vid, Colin and extra points for the excellent riff selection! As you say, the all valve sound is clearly recognizable, but for the money the micro dark is not bad at all.
