To speak directly to your issue with confidence. Don't be overly concern about your opponent. Listen, you don't have to play them... THEY HAVE TO PLAY YOU!!! THEY have to see how THEY are gonna get by your defense. THEY need to figure out how THEY are gonna keep you from getting the ball to your teammates. THEY need to worry how THEY are gonna stop you from scoring. You make up in your mind that if anyone suits up against you THEY will leave thinking I don't EVER want to play him again!!!

      Good on you being able to motivate your team. Many coaches don't know how to be an effective coach, spending their time yelling at the kids instead of motivating them and showing them how to be better. Glad you don't sound like that. Best of luck to your and your team.

      So for you this has to be your goal to learn how to play without the ball so that means this you have to hustle, be a dog on defense, rebound, block out, set screens, keep team mates moving by setting them screens this would be open gym so you know every time the ball crosses 1/2 court do every little thing you can other than focus on the ball offense wise, offensively and defensively talk do this and once you get the ball it'll be easier to understand and play the game plus you'll be in shape cause you doing all the little things no one really recognizes or wants to do. Foundation wise this is a great way to learn the game cause you are playing without the basketball making others better in turn making you better actually learning the small important things that add up and do really matter. Also try and learn how to teach basketball not to actually teach it but to help you learn and understand the game a bit more it'll help IQ is more important than players realize once your physical skills go what do you have if you can't think the game same goes for life itself only the smart survive out here you can't live life making dumb decisions so apply accordingly to the game itself basketball and life are both games we play 1 for fun and 1 for survival they def. are relative. Have a great day sir !

  • @assistbasketball1964
    @assistbasketball1964 Před rokem +2

    Great video and true the only thing i'd say is this the players that you mentioning have actual plays/offenses drawn up for them and screens are set to assist them at getting open sure they move with a purpose, if film is really dissected the players will hold, grab, lock arms of defenders to assist them with the addition to a host of screens. How would a player apply this in open/run gym situations where it would be most effective as alot of times screens are not set and if defenses are not guarding the player tight most of this will most likely not work in my opinion learning how to read defenders in open play situations would be optimal in getting shots for as you know open runs consist of alot of 1-on1 dribbling and 3 point shooting. So this video is made is totally great and is a real base for fundamental basketball but it's so many other things that goes into this that needs addressing so that no matter where the player is playing this can be applied, this is much more difficult to do in open gym and in organized play where if the plays are not for you, you can't just run your own cuts because this is not what the offense calls for and you may disrupt what the coach is trying to run and the coach will actually tell you as a player "stay outta that area we are trying to isolate the post" or we are running this to try and get a 3 point shot or something else. I'm just asking for developmental purposes to help young players understand everything is relative and when to do this, how to actually read, setup players in certain situations, be able to do this and not clog up areas of the court, be in optimal positions to benefit from all of this. I'm never ever trying to be disrespectful or negative about this video i think this is a great video and has merit and will help but i just think it should be explored more and things brought up to help players understand their how, why and when this will and can be most effective for them.

    ball cut, flare cut, basket cut. all the cuts in this video are just combinations of these three basic cuts. No need to complicate things. Fake one, do another. Anticipate teammates, read the defense and quickly go where they can't get to you in time.
