Theory: the community they were watching in cougar town was the one that Abed made in that debate team episode. Like off brand community sorta.
OMG never realised they referenced Abed's charting of the girls' cycles before 208 - OR Troy's birthday before 210! This show is quite possibly the most Easter-egg packed gem of a show I've ever seen. Six seasons, a graphic novel and a broadway musical!

Danny Pudi is absolutely fantastic in this episode. Just the way he delivers his lines is so awesome!
i've never watched cougar town, so the abed scene at the end was completly new to me, and hilarious.

I love it when he looks at the waiter with such lust and whispers, "thank you" i couldn't stop laughing haha
HAHAHAHAHA i didn't even think Cougar Town actually existed (i have no cable, i just hear about good tv shows), so seeing this and Abed ACTUALLY on the set is just so fuckin funny! made my day
@IHaveNoClue1234 Some of the executive producers of Cougar Town and Community are friends (they used to work together on Scrubs, like Cougar Town's Bill Lawrence and Community's Neil Goldman and Garrett Donovan) and starting toying with the idea of having fun promoting each other's struggling shows through fun in-show references. It's all good-natured, and thank heavens NBC and ABC were totally okay with the cross-network promotion!
In the season 2 finale those two characters from Cougar Town were in the crowd of students cheering for Pierce.
At 5:00 you see Laurie Keller (Busy Phillips) and Travis Cobb (Dan Byrd) from Cougar Town in the second season paintball finale of Community
In the subway scene Danny Pudi acted Abed acting like a character from CougarTown
The best is in the first scene when Abed is analyzing the girl. It references Troy's birthday, Annie's period and, of course, Cougar Town haha
Cougar Town has also changed it’s intro title card to “Cougarton Abbey” (3x11) and one of their subtitles in the title has been an Abed quote (3x12)

The scene at the end killed me. i didn't notice Danny Pudi in the background until about 5:40 so it felt like he just appeared there instantly.
For anyone who is unaware, Community also crossed over with a show called Chuck to a lesser extent. One of the actors from Chuck was in the old Greendale commercial shown in season 3 and that same year, Danny Pudi and Yvette Nicole Brown showed up in an episode of Chuck together as employees at the fictional Buy More store where many of the characters worked on the show. czcams.com/video/vQMz48Ssjw0/video.html
@FreaKyRandoM That one is the most subtle reference of all, and I think they actually edit it out of reruns. When Abed's robocop vision comes up, in the bottom right corner under "Memos," it says "Record CougarTown"

Cougar Town really needs to show Community some more love. They've only mentioned the show by name once. Abed is constantly expressing his love for Cougar Town.

You should. Get through the first half of the 1st season - which isn't great...but then the show finds itself and takes off. The 2nd and 3rd seasons are total perfection.

Abed actually made me watch Cougar Town. Maybe Scrubs had it's influence too. So far i'm on season 1 episode 7 and i'm not so sure it's worth it.
The first season is their worst one.
Cougar Town really starts to take off and find itself the Thanksgiving episode of Season 1. Season 2 and 3 are absolute perfection.
@tabularasaconfirmed The neighbor/boyfriend/bartender - Grayson (Josh Hopkins) - did in fact cameo. Bill Lawrence made a point to have his cast cameo on as many shows as possible during the Cougar Town hiatus as a stunt to keep some publicity going (and just to have fun!) It's a whole bunch of crossovers, and the user godonlyknowssarah (a prolific Cougar Town vid poster) has uploaded a couple of the random crossovers. Just search "cougar town castle" and you'll find her account.
Danny Pudi shouldve been in a seen with Courtney Cox to fully complete his reference but I digress

I've watched every ep of community in excess of 20 times each. How have I never noticed Busy and Dan chanting 'Human Beings' in the Paintball episode?
Alright, I've got an explanation for the fiction loop, how the works can be fiction in eachother. Community is a show in both, however, it has different actors, but a similar dynamic, minus Abed. Abed watched it before going to college, and got fixated on it, but it was probably cut short, maybe season 3 or 4. This explains why Abed acts like life is a TV show, because it *was*, and he was a self-insert. This would also explain why "Make friends with a group of misfits" was on his college to-do list. He was recreating the show in real life
And BOTH shows had Subway product placement and spots!!!
I just double checked if his character's name on Mythic Quest was "Chad" because it's been a while since I've watched it and Danny's performance in that scene is so close to his work on MQ. It's "Brad," but now I desperately wish he'd been named Chad to really bring this full circle.
The attention to detail in "Community" was streets ahead.

I'm currently in an infinite loop, if cougar town is a show in the community universe, but community is a show in the cougar town universe, which one exists? The only way I was able to escape this infinite logic loop was to recognize that we never actually saw the show community in the cougar town universe, just heard it mentioned, which could mean that there is a show called community in the cougar town universe but it is not the same community we know. That is the only way that Abed could both reference and appear on it.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure it was in that awkward final season. Dr. Cox was telling one of the interns to record the Big Bang Theory for him so he can "see what the fuss was about" or something like that.
@hammockhavoc S1 DVDs came out when S2 began so it could helped get S3 renewed. DVDs show viewer commitment, they're an easy way to get more viewers (you always have access to the best episodes when friends come over and you can lend the DVD out) and shows with high dvd sales tend to eventually become more popular. Of course that doesn't matter if ratings continue to suck. Harmon does say it can go beyond 4 but he normally mocks the idea after. I really only care about one more series anyways.

@hammockhavoc Community would have been canceled already (from what I've heard) but DVD sales were strong so they renewed it. They might keep it for that reason, if you look at shows with strong DVD sales they tend to make networks more money in the long run than other shows do because their cult following grow exponentially over time. I like to think that networks are starting to learn the benefits of that. Anyways Community ends when Jeff graduates so we only need a fourth season.

So I forgot the name of Courtney Cox's neighbor on the show who had also been on her boyfriend... that bartender guy. Well I'm pretty sure he was on Castle a couple of episodes ago. My mom and I immediately noticed it and waited to see if he'd have any lines and he didn't. Could it be another crossover?
