I love how Abed goes back to his natural demeanor as soon as Jeff gets real, like he realizes he's gotten in over his head. And Jeff's so wrapped up in himself he doesn't even notice. This was so well done.
Love it, that’s the moment abed lost control of the scenario and is now in completely uncharted territory for himself; there was really so many levels of subtlety in this episode
I think it is brilliant how Danny Pudi was able to show Abed's discomfort with Jeff's "real talk" even while trying to hide it. It's true to his character, despite it being the goal of this whole facade. Such a great episode!
Danny Pudi is an amazing actor. He’s so good that he even looks different in this scene, due to his mannerisms and facial expressions. I didn’t realize how attractive he was until “Chad”
It’s amazing how Danny was in character as Abed being in character as Andre, then slipped back to Abed; and it’s amazing how he was able to portray Andre, a more normal person, without coming across as Danny

The best thing about this is, right now there are dozens of community fans who want to wear a chunky beige cardigan to a fancy restaurant and discuss their innermost feelings and relationship to the world purely for comic effect.
Holy cow, really? I haven't watched Community but that makes me think I don't want to ever watch it... I'm exaggerating, but this is just normal/straight-forward acting, there were not a difficult character to interpret nor a hard situation to react to.
@@riemannspupil5095 Not trying to sound rude, but do you know how Abed normally acts in Community? I get that it seems like normal (or even wooden) acting to a bunch of people who haven't seen the show, but if you have seen the show and are familiar with the character's typical demeanor, there's a lot of details and little things to pick up. It's honestly an incredible performance. There's a lot of subtle differences/nuances in Abed in this clip, stuff that you wouldn't pick up on if you don't know default Abed that well.
@@riemannspupil5095 It subtle acting. If you know Abed's characters you can clearly see when his facade of playing this character from My Dinner slips off. Like when Jeff dunks his phone into the glass of water for example
I know this episode was technically light on laughs but I was grinning the first time I watched this because there was just something intrinsically funny about Abed roleplaying a normal person conveying easy warmth.
ikr. this episode wouldn’t have be funny at all for someone who hasn’t watched community, but since we all know the characters it’s hilarious to see them step out of their usual roles
I especially love how there is that tiny hint of normal Abed when he's talking just after Jeff admits he called a phone sex line, at 1:33. Because after a confession like the one Jeff just delivered, normal Abed would be confused and would therefore drop his smooth, relaxed facade, which definitely shows in his slight change in demeanor. Danny Pudi truly is a phenomenal actor...
When they finally do make the movie, I hope there’s multiple scenes this dramatic yet revealing for the characters. Great writing and an even better delivery by the actors!
wow, this show is genius. I actually saw "My Dinner with Andre" before i saw it on this show. I don't think most people got the reference, i always thought the movie was really obscure
In some ways it's better to not initially get the reference, so we go on Jeff's journey, wondering what this is all about, and then only realising that it's all just another reference AFTER he's spilled his secrets.
I genuinely love how Joel slams the table when he says "wrong, that's me, I did that". It actually feels very much like his character and I wouldn't be surprised if the table slam wasn't in the script. I know a lot of people like Jeff, but Joel McHale is kind of an unsung actor. Imagine how some other actor would pull him off.
Have you seen his recent guest role on "The Bear" series. He plays a former boss of main character and is terrifying and deadly serious. Really talented actor and able to go dark, dark, dark.
It wasn’t a joke, it was an homage. Abed’s real reason _was_ to have a real conversation with Jeff, he says so later. Abed just expresses himself through movies
The way he put his phone in the water cause it was interrupting his “real” moment, I’ve actually had a moment like this like you just don’t care cause you want to express your thoughts
I don’t think I ever laughed harder than when I realized what Abed was doing in this episode. Because I GOT THE REFERENCE despite having no business knowing what this movie is
It wasn’t until finally watching My Dinner with Andre I noticed how much Danny Pudi and Andre Gregory do share similar physical features. Adds to the comedy even more.
