    Awesome video.! Thanks for all the hormonal studies. Just wanted to also add that you don't want your leptin levels too low because you will get hungry and rapidly gain weight again. I think the key in this video was to get out of Leptin resistance BUT if you are not leptin resistant and trying to lose the last 5 pounds, calories will matter. Leptin is actually an appetite suppressant. When everything works the right way, it helps you maintain a healthy weight by balancing the amount of food you eat with how much fat you have. Normal higher leptin levels tell your brain “your fat cells are full,” which makes you less hungry. The hunger hormone is actually Ghrelin - Fasting 24 hrs or even longer IF will actually decrease Ghrelin levels. It's your ketone bodies that are produced in longer fasts that helps to suppress your hunger hormone Ghrelin. Just had to get this out because there were a few confusing things in this video for those who have a background in medical science/physiology. But overall fabulous stuff1

    I tried fasting, and carb restrictions because I don’t tolerated any carbs (which has been my lifestyle for a long time so I am not insulin resistant) no success. I eat healthy/clean w good protein. Good exercise. I am 62 and 15 lb overweight and it won’t budge. If I could tolerate ACV I would try that. Taking L-glutamine for leaky gut and managing my diet takes a lot of work. I can really only do 14 hr fasts because longer makes me feel too stressed with the restriction. I have accepted the fact that this is where it’s at. I am healthy.

    If there was a Dr. Myndi health video that I would want all of her followers to see if it would be this one. I am very blessed to have a top functional doctor that taught me about lesson day one of meeting him all the way back to 2005. he was kind enough to say that if he don’t get his number to where it needs to be then it’s going to be very difficult to lose body fat. He gave me a leptin protocol and it is much like all 31:32 of the things that Dr. Myndi is teaching in this video. I also balance my thyroid and followed the diet and exercise routine and the body fat melted off. I can’t stress the sleep component enough. As my doctor is walking through the door, he always says “how are we sleeping“? I would also highly recommend stress reduction. Leptin does not get enough attention and needs to be in the forefront. focus on protein :-)

    I have incurable SIBO and Celiac Disease, along with a poor performing gallbladder and pancreas (thanks Mom for the great genetics lol). My weekly fast and eat schedule is a 3-1-2-1, then reversed the next week. That means I water fast for 3 days, eat for one, dry fast for 2, eat for one. Then I switch up and dry fast for 1 day, eat for 2 days, water fast for 1, eat for 3.
    My diet is carnivore only, with caloric ceiling at 800. No sugar, no dairy, no alcohol, no refined or processed foods, no fruits, no veggies. I go for a brisk walk for one hour, 3x wk. The last 15 minutes of my walk, I run for 30 seconds, rest for 90, run 30, rest 90 until the 15 mins are complete.
    I'm 38 and 5'6. I started at 123 at the beginning of June, and am now at 112. My goal is to get to 105 by end of August where I can maintain and keep my SIBO, gallbladder, and pancreas issues manageable.

First its very hard, after a time you'll get very used to it. Snack a couple of very salty olives against drowsiness etc. As few as possible, as much as needed. Im sure ADF will do the trick. You will still get great fasting benefits! Please be aware that you may be more sensitive to some medications in a fasting window.

    I cannot seem to find the video on Sleep and Leptin. As a shift worker, I’m really trying to balance my hormones and my hunger and my fasting and my sleep as best as I can. I noticed that if I skimp on sleep, I am way more hungry the next day on my days off I used to force myself, even if I was tired to go run, but sometimes I feel like it’s actually better for my body to catch up on sleep and I feel lighter And more refreshed, when I wake up then, if I would’ve pushed myself to get up at 7 PM and drink coffee and go running. My body is naturally getting up at night because I work overnight. But on my days off sometimes I just sleep for 16 hours so I can get up the next day and see some light and be up during the day, but apparently Dr. Mindy says this is not good. I’m messing up my neuro chemicals 😳

Also, i take supplements such as Omega 3, magnesium, and Vitamin D. but they could not help me in order to get back my period. I made sure that I made fresh salads with lots of colourful veggies such as carrots, red cabbage, red peppers etc. She was allowed to eat strawberries and any berries in fact . Cook with coconut oil, eat fish and chicken especially salmon. Above all, I made sure that I made her walk for at least half an hour a day for weight loss. The period will come, trust me. Good luck. You have a video saying to eat the protein amount of the weight you want to be and referenced that you like being at 130 pounds and that you would eat that amount of protein. Hi there, the book “Fast Like a Girl” is correct- if your goal is to lose weight follow the macros in the book.
      If you lost your weight and now your goal is to BUILD muscle, then eat 1 gram of protein per pound of ideal body weight.
      Not everyone is on the same path or has the same goal- also videos are created for those with different goals.

    Hi dr. Mindy, I am a 51 menopausal female and have chronic fatigue/burnout/adrenal fatigue, very little muscle mass and high fat mass/overweight and am probably prediabetic. Should I focus on changing my diet first and then try to gain muscles (if that's possible at this stage) or do both. Is intermittent fasting, 24 or longer fast and dry fasting recommend?
    I know that if I can lose the excess fat I'll be underweight eventually (below 50 kg at 1,60m). I'm afraid that if I try to lose weight by changing my diet I'll lose muscles as well, making me more energy depleted.
    I hope you'll do a video on visceral fat and how to tackle it.

    OK, I have a question and I am not joking. I am being very serious.
    When I was in my 20s, I could wear a size 5 to 7. I look at that now and that looks like it’s really small. I currently wear between a 11-12 to 14.
    I was not skinny. I was very fit looking because I am only 5’ 2”.
    Anyway, my main question is now that I am 22 years older could I still get that same small figure that I had in my 20s and wear that smaller size.
    What I am thinking is my bones have not gotten fat? And I am actually still that same person with just more fat cells??? Is that true?

    • @DrMindyPelz
      @DrMindyPelz  Pƙed 13 dny +1

      Yes, you can. Remember however that muscle is more dense. While the number on the scale may not change, the size and fit of your clothin may. Remember to addin healthy muscle building and strength routines with your proper diet and healthy fasting.

    Dr Mindy
    I am a big follower of your fasting advice. I recommend your book "Fast like a girl" to my daughter. She went ballistic about me recommending fast because her partner recently recovered from anorexia. She believes fasting, even as a suggestion is super dangerous for so many woman with eating disorders. Please, can you give e me some insight on this topic. I witnessed second hand the program 2 young woman with anorexia went through. They are taught to force themselves to eat 6 times a day and include desserts and anything unhealthy. This seems awful to me.

    • @Missshonagirl
      @Missshonagirl Pƙed 5 dny

      I would think anorexia is a psychological disorder where a person has a compulsive need to avoid food and regardless of how much weight they lose they still believe they need to keep avoiding food. This is not the same as fasting and fasting shouldn’t cause anorexia because eating is a part of fasting. However if someone has had disordered eating, it’s best for them to avoid fasting as it may be a trigger.

      Certainly, changes in fasting and diet can impact your menstrual cycle. Hormonal balance is closely tied to these factors, and shifts in your routine might lead to changes in menstruation. If you're noticing significant alterations in your cycle or experiencing unusual symptoms, consulting a healthcare provider is advisable for personalized guidance. They can offer insights based on your health history and situation. 🙂

    I was barely able to walk up and down the steps to my basement 6 mos ago, did a 2.5 day dry fast, and whatever was going on went away and never came back. I also had a rash on my chest that I forgot to show my doctor and that disappeared entirely. I’m 50 and was feeling like I was 80. They tell you to not dry fast for longer than 24 hours but I’m guessing it’s for liability reasons.

      Hi, The level of leptin in your blood is directly related to how much body fat you have. If you're leptin resistant it causes you to feel hungry and eat more even though your body has enough fat stores. 🙂

    Thank you Dr. Pelz. I’m interested in metabolic switching to decrease leptin because I find I lost weight at the beginning of this journey and have hit a plateau. Still have ten pounds to go. Do you mean we change hour fasting period during power phases? For Example, fast 17 hours one day and 24 then next?
    Secondly, in your book you advise us not to fast during the Nurture phase. I’m currently in that phase. Should I enter power phase with the 24 hour fast? Thank you❀

    The thing that really confuses me about all of this is that we keep hearing from all these health experts like, for example ,Thomas DeLaer , Fasting does not make you lose weight and we need to focus more on diet and exercise.. and that we also need to increase protein. So if I’m trying to fast for autophagy and kill off the bad cells that are inflaming me and exacerbating, my auto immune disease wouldn’t increasing my protein the autophagy process? I’m just so confused. I want to have a piece of chicken after my 20 hour fast or a piece of fish with salad if that’s gonna throw me out then I don’t know what to do.

    • @DrMindyPelz
      @DrMindyPelz  Pƙed 17 dny +1

      Hi @HH-gv8mx, Good question. We need to keep protein 20g or lower so that we do not stimulate mTor. This is the opposite of Autophagy. mTor is for building muscles and Autophagy cleans up bad cells. After a period of Autophagy fasting you will want to return to building up muscles and healthy cells. The muscle reset gives you a schedule for Autophagy and at the same time achieves muscle building. 🙂
