- What’s in this week?! This week, we take a look at two artist collections. First up, Mott and British Lions guitarist Ray Majors, where there are some cool and quirky things, including some wild mods.
We then move onto a small selection of studio and stage used guitars and equipment from Van der Graff Generators Peter Hammill.
Finally, we take a look at a single owner collection of guitars, all of which are artist signature models.

Many Brit folks may not know this, but the "Airline" brand name was the in-house brand for the US department store and catalog sales of Montgomery-Ward. So Airline instruments and amps were made by somebody else, and then retailed by Montgomery Ward at lower prices. Their competition came from Sears-Roebuck and the Sears guitars and amps were marketed under the "Silvertone" name. This was all American marketing back in the 1960s and '70s.
Ray Majors was such a good bloke - we kept in touch after he commissioned the Marrakech reso and he generously guested at a Blues Camp, that's where your photo comes from! Wish I'd known about the auction, I'd have been interested in buyingi t back
Awesome. It was a lovely guitar. Thanks for watching 😊👍
That was a classy wonderfully west country English video Gentlemen.
Really good for us enthusiast types with a few quid burning a hole in the old pocket.
Good to see a few mods and a few positive thoughts on them.
Well done.
Glad you enjoyed it!
That Buckethead is absolutely stunning! Great work Luke and looking forward to future videos. 👍
Thanks, will do! 🙌🏼
I can't quite work out how the estimates work, the Buckethead and Zappa SG are very low, and the lefty Custom Shop lefty Les Pauls are really high!
Ray Major's Guild S-300 - looks to me like he had some 'sympathetic' strings running crossways under the main strings for drone/sitar effects.
Yep! He was quite the experimenter!
Top job, can't wait for the auction.
Sadly no three way cross over here 😂
😅
Many thanks for uploading these during what must be a very busy schedule.
Suggestion wise, I'm thinking that you're in a good position to gain knowledge of an instruments history from original owners along with anecdotes and to document that in these videos - so more of that really ( a great example of that was the korina v )
Great suggestion! We’d love to do more based on Provenance 🙌🏼
Tony Stratton Smith was the founder of Chrysalis Records, so while the lute might have been commissioned by him as a gift for Peter I'd be very surprised if he actually made it.
Tony Stratton Smith was in fact the founder of Charisma Records.
@@liam8084 You're quite right of course. Not sure why I wrote Chrysalis instead of Charisma.
How much did rays collection go for?
