    Shawn Michaels getting hurt in 1998 was a gift from above. Had he been around in 1998, he would have played his bullshit backstage politics and fucked up Austin's push.

      @@timotye4079 Rock yes. HHH would have suffered a bit but still would've been eventually been a top guy and Taker was already made.

    I don't know about anyone else but I was glad to see Michaels leave after this show. Him as a heel is 1000 times better than face but his antics over the year getting here wore thin on me and my crew of guys that wanted to see Raw get ahead of Nitro with Rock and Austin

    The answer why wrestling got so hot in the 90's. Is because the children of the 80's started earning their own money. We became nostalgic for the past. Same audience

    • @lovecraftianleviathan8918
      @lovecraftianleviathan8918 Před 3 lety +3

      I agree that was a factor, but not the only one. Otherwise, why wasn’t there another wrestling boom around 2010 when the 90s kids/Attitude era fans hit early adulthood? Funnily enough, there almost was another boom at that time-in 2011 with the Pipe-bomb and the Summer of Punk-but it was strangled in the crib by bad booking and poor creative. So good storytelling and marketable stars have to be at least equally as important as nostalgia.

    I remember being the only one not impressed with Tyson being there. He was coming off back to back fights where he got his ass kicked by Holyfield. I guess the ear biting thing got him cred enough as a tough/crazy guy, but his appeal was fading imo. Guess I was wrong. Don't get me wrong, I was a huge mark at the time and was gonna buy the show anyway

      Chris Suswal Wrestling back then was so much more about characters and sales and Tyson was the biggest selling character on Earth at the time.

    • @UCKABAH
      @UCKABAH Před 4 lety +1

      He had fallen off for sure with the Holyfield losses, but he was still undoubtedly one of the most famous people on the face of the Earth at that time. That's not hyperbole. Like 5 continents famous.

    I still think Austin vs. McMahon would have happened even with Shawn around, the original DX would have been in Mr. McMahon's pocket the way that Dude Love and Kane wound up being.

    • @drevm7991
      @drevm7991 Před 6 lety

      azapro911 I don’t know if it would’ve happened but if it wouldn’t have, I’d have loved to see who would have ended up getting the big feud with McMahon and if it would’ve gotten over anywhere near as big. In my opinion late 90’s McMahon was the best heel of all time.

    • @blueblur2329
      @blueblur2329 Před 4 lety

      I agree Mr. Mcmahon is still around because they were already experimenting with the character while Shawn was there. As far as DX joining Mr. McMahon, that's a no. It doesn't make sense for DX to be in McMahon's pocket. When they first got together their initial statement was "You make the rules we break em" DX worked similar to Austin in that they were anti-authority figures. Making them authority figures would have killed their heat and would have been bad for business. Most likely Austin, DX and Mr. Mcmahon would have all been feuding with each other.

    Not sure about his comment early on here. Wrestlemania was always the WWF/E's biggest show from the moment that the first one was confirmed as a big success. Yes back in the day WWF had other big drawing supershows, but it was still very much the show that the rest of the year was built around. The whole Austin/Tyson thing and change in direction for WWF meant that they were going to over take WCW again anyway, it wasn't just how big that Wrestlemania was.
