The Jeep Gladiator is NOT a Wrangler With a Bed - Here's Why That is a Good and Bad Thing

  • Many thought that the Jeep Gladiator was just a Wrangler with a bed tacked on, but that's not the truth. In some ways it is, but is some key ways, this truck is unique.

Especially when I watch them drive down the road hopping over road cracks and I smash my head on the roof bars just sitting in the passenger side. It's great for some just not for me. Took my aunt into our local Chrysler dealer this week to talk about the corrosion starting on her garage kept 2012 Chrysler 200 Hardtop, with only 50000km. Was shocked to hear the service manager try to convince her that it is perfectly normal to expect the aluminum hood to start corroding after only 50000km. The rims looks 10x worse from corrosion than my 2005 Honda CRV with 244000 km. I will NEVER buy a Dodge / Chrysler / Jeep product ever again.

      look, if you buy for FCA expecting quality you're a dumb ass. If you buy a wrangler, you do it for the freedom and feeling of driving a wrangler. Same for Gladiator. There aren't any convertible trucks, and the feeling of driving a fully loaded rubicon with a lift and some tires as a dd is worth it. I would never buy an FCA product other than Wrangler or Gladiator.

    I think I do want to wait on the diesel model. I want one of these as an overlanding vehicle and having the range and low end torque appeals to me, especially since I'm going to end up putting extra weight on the truck with bigger tires, bumpers, gear, etc.... I don't think I'll be towing that much but it'll be nice to have the power and the extra stability to do so easily. Really impressed with what they did with this truck. • @okigojuryu
    @okigojuryu Před 5 lety +1

    This vehicle, imo, is somewhat of a strange, not very good at it's jobs, vehicle, before you start hating let me explain, first off, I'm going to be using the 2009 hummer h3t as a comparison, since this is what the h3t would of been competing with if the H3t was still around, for starters I'm going to compare base to base models, then top of line to top of line. So the first thing, that would make the gladiator better than the H3t On road would be the engine/trans combo, 285 horsepower and 260 ib-ft mated to a 6spd Manuel or an 8 spd auto is deffinenetly better than 242 horsepower and 242 ib-ft mated to a 5 spd Manuel or 4 spd auto for on road driving, however that's kinda where the base gladiator kinda stops being better. For starters, the base H3t comes with a 4.56 gear ratio vs a 3.73, also, the base gladiator requires you to eather A, buy a lift kit, or B, trim the fenders, to fit anything larger than a 33 inch tire, the H3t only requires you to turn a 2 bolts to fit larger tires (and if ride quality is importan, but don't want to swap to off road shocks, just install a couple prices of blastic between the top of the shock and the mounting point), also, look at the back of both vehicles, the tow hitch of the gladiator is mounted under the bumper, reducing ground clearance, the H3t had it's hitch inside the bumper, right where the license plate would be on the gladiator, also, the bed is mounted much higher than the gladiators bed, which improves the departure angle, and another thing, the adventure package could be purchased on a base H3t, you didnt have to get all the fancy electronics, sun roof, appearance package ect if you just wanted a 4.09:1 low range and front and rear lockers, with the gladiator you have to get an entirely different trim package for improved off road capabilities, another thing, the H3t had an ifs setup, so it is overall superior off road due to its low center of gravity and wide stance mixed with its superior front diff clearance. As for top of the line models, the H3t would be equipped with a V8 engine making 300 horsepower and 325 ib-ft of torque, and 4.10 gear ratio, getting this package also gave you front and rear lockers and the 4.09:1 low range, bassicly it was a rubicon pkg, that also gave you a V8, only it would be the other way around, another not as know thing about the h3/h3t is that it's doors are, in fact, removable, also, something I forgot to mention is that the H3t has more belly clearance than the gladiator. I'm not saying that the gladiator is a bad vehicle, but a TEN YEAR OLD truck keeps up with it, and beats it in some cases, I just feel that the gladiator should have at least been eye to eye, so to speak on all points. if the h3t was still around, even if it had been updated very little vs the 2009, it would be an overall superior vehicle, the only thing that would make the gladiator better than an h3t, top of line vs top of line, is going to be that diesel engine, but all of this is just my opinion, so please don't cuss me out like an ass hole.

    Seriously 70 grand to tow 7000 pounds? Used ones are already showing up because they can’t tow much, they can’t haul much and they are too long to off road

    I haven’t driven the Gladiator but the new Wrangler has SUPER SMOOTH suspension and acceleration. I was incredibly surprised.

    This is probably ok for short distant towing not to heavy loads. I see a few of these jeep Trucks on the road. Meh. I'd take a two door day in day out.

    Who on earth would conduct a video with HALF the factory limits, like obviously it’s gonna do it just fine. Yeah, it’s okay for part of the it, but let’s see it’s LIMITS!

      @pda4you Před 5 lety +1

      The bulk of people towing are less than 5k. This is an excellent test of what MOST people tow. And frankly with the 6cyl I think that is about all you would want to do anyway. For bigger loads you need a larger truck IMHO.

    • @GladiatorGang
      @GladiatorGang Před 5 lety

      Surge breaks are dead ! With all trailers with a gw over 3000 lbs require breaks in the USA , electric breaks are cheaper for manufactures and less prone to rust causing failures !!

    So ..fiat renualt makes them now ..it is so far from a real jeep it is closer to a fiat 500. The engine will grenade itself at 40k..mark my words . It will be in shop more than you will have it in your driveway..good job buying a lemon.

      While concern about Fiat is justified, that V-6 in the Gladiator has been VERY time-tested in many of FC's vehicles (over a million produced) and has performed and lasted quite well.
