Ok, i'm still waiting for the comparison of the Colorado ZR2 vs Gladiator Rubicon vs Tacoma TRD-Pro vs Frontier Pro-4X and Ranger FX4.
As far as off road only tests will go that Rubicon will be best in class easily. It wont win anything else as far as best in class though, it's an off road vehicle with a pickup bed.
@@lucassnider5357 yep, but i'm still curious about how the gladiator and the competitors do in the 100 mile loop (towing/ not towing), ike gauntlet, drag race... not just the Moab's battle. Maybe the jeep could surprise like the taco did in ike gountlet.
First comment I see that mentioned a frontier, kudos!!!
Although the Ranger FX4 is currently their "off road" truck, a more fair comparison would be to the Ranger Raptor probably. Will have to wait for it to come to North America...
@@mikec3454 anything named raptor, will be a fun sand/mud truck.... the rubicon, just like the power wagon, will be the king of off-roading with a bed....
Love these trucks but they're just getting too expensive...
trucks are basically replacing luxury cars from the near past
At the same time you have to realize this truck is body on frame with front and rear solid axles. Nothing cheap about that combo.
Yep couldn't agree more
Janet Airlines it does not you idiot, it's covered with mud!
@@JohnDoe-nz6bk nope crappy qaulity
I'm just here to read all of the complaints about pricing.
Yeah exactly. I remember people losing their lunch when talking about the price of the new Ranger. Compared to a loaded Gladiator, the Ranger is a bargain, even in Lariat form.
@@housepianist All I know is that I can buy a fully loaded Nissan Frontier Pro4x for only slightly more than the BASE model of the Ranger. These trucks are ridiculously overpriced, because they are full of shit that doesn't belong in a truck. You are basically paying 10 grand for leather seat covers and some useless whiz-bang technology that does nothing to make the truck more useful.
That Nissan is also a 15 year old platform.
Yeah enjoy your nissan with 5 gears and 15/21 mpg. A V8 F150 gets 16/22 and thats a bigger and far more powerful and capable truck. The only appealing thing to me in the frontier is that you can get it with a 6spd manual. But even with that the mpg doesnt change. The frontier is just outdated in every category compared to the competition that is why its cheaper.
All of them are way overpriced. At their prices they should be perfect. They are all nothing but problems.
got myself a 2019 Chevy colorado three weeks ago and I absolutely love it
11:36 one fog light already went out on that jeep?🤣
That's halogen bulbs for ya or it was a cornering light even though it wasn't turning.
@@mikeperez5567 is there any modern car still have those cornering lights? It seems all the luxurious brand that used to have those feature all turning into bending headlamps
12:16 you can see its covered in mud, its not out.
@@dearbulls my '15 focus st has turny headlights and a separate cornering light lol
@@jadenantal1652 cool. I had a 13 st but it doesn't have any of the things you described
Can’t wait to see this go through some trails against the TRD pro and ZR2
Yep, this sounds more like a overpriced grocery getter.
I think seeing the Gladiator Rubicon and TRD Pro on the trails would be more interesting. The Gladiator has a solid front axle and the Rubicon package has electronic sway-bar disconnect so you can get additional articulation. My hope is this will force Toyota to finally bring the 70 series Land Cruiser to the USA and put an end to all this fluff marketing.
I think that if the TFL guys really push the two trucks, the Gladiator will come out on top, at least on the rocks. I think in sand, or deep mud the Tacoma will win due to the independent front axle. However, the Rubicon Gladiator with the locking diffs, electric sway bar disconnect, and the 8 speed automatic transmission, will come out on top overall. Also, it seems like Toyota is cutting cost with their newer vehicles. It sounds like some of you are Toyota guys, do you feel as though Toyota is cutting cost on the newest Tacoma?
@@deereman8237 ya, I've always been a Toyota 4x4 fan since childhood. Bought our 2005 4Runner new, with 4.7 V8 (first year with VVT-i so 270hp and 330 lb/ft), full-time 4WD, and some other features for off-road and towing. I've owned the unicorn '96 Land Cruiser with full front to back electronic locking diff's and '91 Toyota 4x4 pickup. I like comfort, but I'm more tuned to utility. Toyota needs to provide some back to basics utility and bring a 79 GXL Land Cruiser but stop using leaf springs in the rear. That 4.5 V8 Turbo Diesel in the 70 series is a beast for the size rig it's in. I've thought about getting another 80 series and putting the new Cummins crate diesel in it.
@@deereman8237 You forgot about the ZR2 - which has virtually all of the same features you listed the Gladiator Rubicon will have. To be honest, the cost of a Rubicon Gladiator would likely be comparable to the ZR2 Bison, and I would put my money on the Bison. It's a beast in so many ways.
These quarter tons are becoming the same price as half tons, think I’ll just get a Silverado
That is what i did 10 months ago, I got a 2018 Silverado Z71 instead of the Tacoma i was looking for. Price end up about the same and fuel economy not even a difference. But i have more towing power and more room.
Sure but not everyone wants a massive truck. Full size is only better than midsize at comparable price if you have a utility for it where the midsize struggles. If you plan on towing a ton or have a lot of passengers, you have an argument, otherwise I'll take the mobility and overall better looks of the midsize, which is exactly why they get away with the price.
Just depends on what you want to do with it. I have upgraded my Tacoma's rear suspension with heavy springs. I can carry over a ton, no problem. I don't want a larger truck because I like it being narrower. Easier to park, easier to overroad in tight spaces.
@@fgarcia897 Tacoma would outlast any GM made truck 5 times over
Silverados are more fun to drive.
Every time I see the max leverage ad I can’t help but think “that’s what a second wrench is for” and most everyone has another one lying around to double wrench with. 🤷🏻♂️
Yep. Exactly. Slap a box end over an open end and voila. If I need more leverage than that, I have a five foot length of aluminum post that works just great and it won't put all the pressure on one side of the open end wrench.
Why not just use a socketed breaker bar?
I really love the TFL channels, great content, great coverage, great quality of production. And these guys are just wonderful. I do prefer the shows were they have two or more of their team to discuss cars/trucks but these solo reviews are excellent too.
Shamey Reed he does just fine by himself.
andre is fine on his own. i prefer without roman and nathan anyways.
I just slide the boxed end of a wrench on the open ended side for my cheater bar and its free.
I don't understand the obsession with a dampening tailgate.. It has never been an issue.. It's a solution to a non problem.
Lol who ever was driving the gladiator at 15:22 gave himself a little scare when drifting into the oncoming lane
I noticed that too😂😂
I came through the comments to see who posted about it
Own Tacoma and Jeep. The only reason I would never sell my Jeep is because of it’s life time maxcare warranty. But Tacoma hands down the best truck out of all.
Seems like you’re trying to find reasons to like it. 40lb payload advantage is negligible though. If Rams get the win because of looks and interior then this thing should be losing for the same reason. This will only appeal to jeep people. Which is fine but it’s probably a last place vehicle overall.
James, you nailed it my friend.
@C-Bomb you mean it is the only truck in the group that has a properly geared rear? I haven't driven anything with less than 4.10 gear ratio since 1997. My 97 TJ I put 4.10 in it along w/ a lift and larger tires. My '02 Suburban 2500 w/8.1L came stock w 4.10, and I upped to 33" tires no problem. My current '13 Power Wagon w/ 35" tires has stock 4.56, and will be 37" soon without need for regear. If I bought something w anything less I would be soon upgrading it to at least 4.10, or whatever best fit my tire size. They left out in this "review" about it being the only truck w 2 solid axles which it more conducive to lifting and modding + durability. No snapping weak CVs and tie rods.
Yah thars true.i dont see a market of this being sold to someone that is looking to buy a new mid size truck or getting someone to switch from a Tacoma or a Colorado to buy this. For the reason of towing.theres a reason why midsize trucks exist.to be small easy to handle and great for everyday use. But with this i feel like its trying to live up to his bigger brother company,RAM. but failed. The Gladiator looks a little to big to be a midsize truck i was surprised he daid it was one. For that reason its not worth what im getting in dependability and price. Most jeeps i see here in texas are pavements princess's all including alot of Rubicon trims.this truck wont make it easy to compare price to quality and dependability over time.
@C-Bomb Jeep people enjoy the aftermarket scene. Who the hell buys a Jeep and doesnt immediately swap out wheels and tires?
@C-Bomb I guess you guys are making my point for me. Exactly, there are many people like me that want to put bigger tires, upgraded components and a lift. Jeeps are more ready for that. I expect to see some jacked up badass Gladiators out there. The scale will look much better, just like the other 4 door Jeeps with bigger than stock tires. They know who they are marketing to. The guys like me that had to give up a small capable Jeep for a much bigger truck, but lost the convertible / utilitarian aspects, when our families started to grow. Shit, I went to Power Wagon to get something more utilitarian and solid axles in a truck. My truck is all Thuren'd up. I suspect there will be a whole lot of people that will find this the best of both worlds. Additionally, diff gearing is all about power vs leverage to turn the tires. It is B.S. when somebody says everyday vs off-road or low speed vs highway. The gears simply give you the leverage to turn the tires. Bigger tires, more distance per revolution, higher gear ratio brings rpms in the right range for the speed traveled. Programmer gets shift points and speedo corrected.
Am I the only one who couldn't care if the tailgate is "dampened"
Yes. Today's standards dictates it should typical, Ford lame
nope, i still have some muscle left in my arms, i can lift and lower my tailgate on my own.
I prefer less frills on a truck.
TOTALLY
I'm with ya. Dampened tail gate is of no concern.
These things will sell like hotcakes. What's more American than spending money you don't have to buy a truck you don't need?
... how about coming on CZcams and bitching about what other people do with their money.?
To each their own...however that 3.6 gas engine for the Gladiator is a joke. At least put a proper V8 hemi in as an option, if you are spending 40-60K for a Jeep/Truck then you’re not buying it for the MPG’s! BTW half are going to lift it and put 35”s or 37”s as soon as they get off the sales lot..IMHO they should’ve only two engines...a 3.0 liter diesel or a 5.7 Hemi. Maybe...a third the V6 gas engines for rental cars
Ps I know the new diesel comes out next year but that still doesn’t explain not having a Hemi V8 option!
@@robertpowers1045 talk to your government about that... I'm sure FCA would be more than willing to throw hemis in them all. There is a reason it's not even an option. The CAFE laws have made them make a choice of where they are going to throw those engines. You force the v6s on the chargers or rams and those sales will disappear... The wranglers have shown to be more than capable with the engines and that's why they made this choice. And the lifting with bigger tires is more about the gearing than a hemi.

A Harley?
60k + might as well by a loaded 2019 ford f150 platinum or limited
William Raynor Or buy a gas 2500 Denali or similar
Or a Raptor!
The people who buy these do not want a big truck. Bigger does not equal better. Especially if you don't tow anything too large
But who would pay 60k for a midsize pick up you can buy a ram power wagon Mojave sand edition for 53-55k
60,000 is for limited launch edition which their are only going to be 4190 of them made. The 35,000-48,000 models are the same as a wrangler which I would rather have a gladiator. You can literally put nothing in a wrangler but can sure as hell put things in a gladiator bed
17:31. 35k and you see pinch welds everytime you open the door. Jeep, spend 5 bucks and cover that with some weather striping.

talltomtube dude clearly you’ve never driven a wrangler line Jeep. It’s nothing but exposed bolt heads and welds everywhere. Don’t get me wrong I agree it should be covered, but that’s kinda their thing.
taltombtubegay....Are you that fragile that you can't handle looking at spot welds...can you see them while you're driving...get real.

Hello again Andre’! Once again good job. I am constantly pleased with the mileage I get from my Colorado Ext Cab 4x4, V6, that constantly get over the epa ratting. With a average of 24-26 mpg highway depending on altitude and hills, from 17-20 city with an absolute high while hyper mile driving at height on The Overseas Highway in the Florida Keys at a constant cruise control setting of 45 mph at night with very little traffic I was very surprised with a computer and pump math at 32.3 mpg! But while towing my 4,000 lbs Travel Trailer we averaged 15 mpg on a 4,090 mile trip from our last home in Massachusetts, driving the truck loaded up with our personal belongings and stuff we needed for the planned 4-5 months traveling while the new house was being built, that means the wife, two dogs about 20 Very Heavy Duty 50 gal plastic bags we used to keep stuff dry in the open bed, then south to the 55+ community we were building in. Then hooked up to the trailer and headed south during the late winter months. So that average is towing the trailer and exploring without everywhere we found a comping site, some for as long as a week or two. To this day I’ve been totally satisfied and trouble free with the Colorado over these 42 months of a 48 month, 12,000/year lease. That depending on what the number some out to might just buy. But I will be taking a very good long look at these 4, The Ranger, Gladiator, Colorado or new Silverado. I might go all out, with up to a 50k MSRP! Along with a new Chevy InLine 6 cyl Diesel! We shall see.
You guys said the epa numbers on the ranger were off so why do you say it has the best epa on paper overall if there not true.😑

Imagine if manufacturers quit bothering with heated seat, steering wheels, adaptive cruise control, and so on. Then they put that money into the transmission and engine or overall quality control.
Exactly. For how much they cost new cars are all garbage.
Then the trucks would last longer, and you would not have to get bent over at the dealership as often. That would make dealers sad.

@Curtis Fleabag uhh, what? the tacoma and tundra are rated the most reliable trucks on the market and have been for a while. yeah, they had a frame issue but they replaced them
The Gladiator looks like a Lego truck. A really messed up Lego truck.
i agree, the GMC canyon is the best looking truck to me, followed by the Tacoma and Ranger, Gladiator and Colorado are very strange looking. I think maybe if the Gladiator was a regular or extended cab so that 50% of the bed wasn't behind the wheels it would look better
Put then to the test, in a very controlled environment.

Then again, this isn't made for everyone. This is a truck made for people who have the money to get it. If they wanted to tow shit they'd get a full sized truck, if they wanted a more economical or faster truck they'd get pretty much any other midsize. This is made for people with Rockefeller dollars that want to drive, do a little offroading, and MAYBE do some towing when they're helping their friend move.
The Nissan Frontier pro4x is a forgotten about truck and the price can’t be beat
60k for the Jeep top trim
35k for the Frontier pro4x top trim
That’s 25 k more for a Jeep no thanks
I have an old Nismo offroad version circa 2006 and it is a beast and a tank. Super reliable, manual trans, locking diff etc and fun as hell.
You’re right, completely forgotten about even by the manufacturer. That truck is so old it’s almost offensive. Plus you’re comparing a base model frontier to a special edition gladiator. A base gladiator isn’t even 10k more. For what you get for that extra 10k, makes the frontier look pathetic.
I'd have to agree. Even tho the jeep has some great components and capabilities, I'm just not a "best in class" kind of fella.
The Jeep is 5x the truck, Nissan can’t make a car let alone a truck
It was left out because the frontier would make people feel bad about spending so much more...

In my opinion the tacoma is by far the one to buy
But most likely better design and more reliable. The domestic market doesn't make that great of midsize trucks

Can’t wait for all the gladiator videos!
The Ranger needs a dampened tailgate why? It's not heavy it's aluminum you can lift and lower it with a pinky finger. Don't be lazy.
And when you bump a tree it totals out the truck.
Great truck but at that price you can get a half ton with a lot of options. And at fully loaded you looking even more. Extra 10 grand you can get a raptor
For the price of a loaded Rubicon, you can get a well-optioned Raptor. For the price of a base Rubicon, you can get a well-optioned 3.5 Ecoboost F150.
Kept passing your trucks lined up by road by Cool, CA, thought it might be you out reviewing. Nice video!
I'm curious what a 2.5" leveling kit on the Ranger would bring it's approach and breakover angle to? Lots of Ranger owners are doing it, just for knowledge sake I wonder if that would help the approach get into the mid 30's like the Tacoma.
The first years depreciation on " MOST" of the new trucks equals the cost of a decent use one.
In 2 years, all quarter ton trucks are generally worth 35-38 grand, no matter what brand!

How do the brakes compare in the trucks in this segment? None have an integrated brake controller, and the Taco has rear drum brakes.

Did the Jeep have a fog light out during drive?? Why did the Jeep change colour during test??
@@janetairlines1351 and they repaired it with a paint job.
Do you know anything about Chevrolet Colorado transmission problems and when will they have a fix for it?
Great video, Andre! Hey Rockheads, these will make great off-roaders when the "Never-Never-Nevers" (never tow, never haul, never off-road) turn in their leases 3 years from now .
...would you buy a used FCA product, even if it was just used by Bros to drive to GNC and the gym?
(edit: I do like the never, never, never comment though. LOL!)
@@NukePooch1 I would never buy a Jeep, but I think if you are looking for a trail rig, and are a Jeep fan, I think a "never been" Wrangler makes sense.
Tacoma diesel! Where are you?
Diesel trucks sucks because of DEF fluid.
Most trucks used around Africa are diesel.
I wonder about the long-term durability/reliability of the Ranger's turbo 4, particularly for people who actually use it to tow/haul. Granted, if I was going to tow/haul, I'd move up to a full size truck, and I figure the vast majority of Ranger buyers are never going to load it down. But for those relatively few people who decide to get the Ranger & really work it...
Then again, this isn't really a Ranger, given that it's basically the same exterior size as the early 2000s F150 SuperCrew.
Or maybe I'm just old, because I really want a 2-door, RWD, body-on-frame, actual small pickup. Ford seems to be working on bringing us a FWD/"AWD" C-Max ute, and they'll probably sell loads of them, but it's still not a small pickup. People have been asking for another S-10 size pickup for years now, and all any automaker has been able to come up with is a chopped-off hatchback.
If it is anything like my 2013 F150 EcoBoost, it is going to require a bunch of maintenance after 100k.
They are not close in size. Ranger is still small.
I'm so glad you did this video. I was really curious how the Gladiator tows, from the point of view of someone who knows what they're talking about.
Any chance you guys drove the truck with the Airstream attached? If so, is there any video you could put up on the towing experience with it? Thanks! Keep up the great work. Proud to be a Patreon supporter.
Jeep needs another straight six. A modern, more efficient yet as reliable as the 4.0L was. Say, near 280-295hp, and 310-330tq.
The pentastar is much better than the old AMC 4.0. I love the old straight 6 that were in both my xj's but, the pentastar is a 4 cam monster thats held back. It makes more power, torque, and doesn't leak as much.
Turbo Tigershark 4cyl has that first set of numbers already. And weighs less than the six,.
I would like to see it offered in a Manual configuration with the 3.0L diesel engine!!
Welcome to the show Gladiator and Ranger. Good luck, but take your place in line...Go YotaNation!
Your yota will rust away to oblivion!
At 15:22 you almost bought the Jeep and the boat. lol
Need to compare that Jeep to my hummer h3t alpha, I’m in Sacramento if you guys are interested
ID WATCH THAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Jeep would win
Shawn Clark obviously it’s a new model vs a 10 year old truck but they’re the most Similar in off road capability and looks
Haven't waited for a series of videos so much in my adult life. Ready for Gladiator!!
Get AAA!
Could you get aftermarket parts to put a dampener for the Rangers tailgate?
Love my 2020 Ranger
I was excited when I first heard Jeep was coming out with a pickup, but no extended cab version and the price is a real turn off.
What the hell did u expect cheap ass?! The more cabs they have the higher the tooling and manufacturing costs! So a smaller cab won't be cheaper. Manufacturing 101 dipshit
and yet extended cabs ARE cheaper from other brands, so there goes that theory. the price for crew cab 4x4 v6 is the same as the other makers, though, and it has solid front axle and with tow package is competitive, so comparable trucks are not any less expensive. gladiator is not going to compete with the base models of other makers, so those kinds of prices just won't happen.
I have an extended cab and wish I had a 4dr. Would never buy an extended cab again. It's a PITA to haul people and extra cargo you need secured. Ridgeline next time for me. Smooth quiet AWD ride, magic seat, locking trunk, swing out tailgate. No brainer. I don't need to tow or go off road. I wouldn't even consider the group here for my needs.
@@OMGWTFLOLSMH I have had an extended cab truck for 9 years now and have never wanted a double cab.
I love how the gladiator already has a fog light out😂😂
It's covered with mud.
Hey, you were in my hometown! Nice!
The sponsor for this show is essentially a breaker bar and that makes me lol
I just use another wrench to extend my wrench. And my jack handle to extend my ratchet. Basically i carry no tools tbat have less than two uses.
Trd sport Tacoma or base model gladiator 🤔🤔 I will take the Toyota please
Can’t get over the fuel economy on most of these trucks. And I see those gas prices rising as we speak. High monthly payment along with high gas prices don’t mix with me.
Josh Mann ranger has the best engine
That's why you wait a year, for the ecodiesel. The ram is 500lbs heavier and gets 28mpg
I heard that ecoboost turbo engine is not that great in the long run. Or turbo engines in general.
Josh Mann the last turbo engine I had was a 86 Volvo 740 turbo. We added a boost controller to increase the power. The turbo needed new seals at 150,000 miles and about 15 years old. Sold it at 210,000 with a minor rod knock. We used conventional oil on it for its whole life. It lasted the lifetime of the vehicle.
Josh Mann also 4 cylinders by nature are easy to work on and repair. Lots of room in the engine compartment.
What if i dont want a dampened tailgate? Then what should i do?
I would love to see a Cliffhanger comparison between the Gladiator and the Power Wagon.
