    More and more you are becoming my favorite reviewer cause our taste in games seem to be pretty identical.

    I have two expansions that were not reviewed by this channel for Quest for El dorado.
    1- Dangers and Musica
    2- Dragons and Treasure
    Would love to see Zee take a look at both.

    In my experiences with Golden Temples it seems to have a bit more of a runaway leader problem than the original did. Totally agree with you that the racing aspect of the first one made things feel more tense than this one. Overall my opinions are very similar to yours. This game would get around 7.5 to 8 for me where as the original game was a 9.5 for me.

    From this review I see literally no reason to buy this over the base game. They added a symbol (torch) and gave us a couple of gold coin markers? The only substantial difference is now you have to retrace your steps which is not fun. Plus, if multiple players split up, you miss the opportunity to strategically block people’s path like in the base game. What is the benefit of this game!?

      mixing it to the base game is amazing! this is one of those examples of an expansion makes a game so much better. I have not played it as a stand alone.

    I heard the "fetching" comment elsewhere and my instinct is to agree it's not as appealing. But as I'm watching how the game plays I think I'm just going to keep it as a race and say whoever gets to three temples first wins. I haven't played it yet, but that's my plan for when it arrives.

    This is a game that handles variant play modes well. There are a number of good options out there that some the bloat of combining the two games and even address your fetch quest issue a bit. Although I do prefer games that don't make you come up with your own rules, in this case the issues are very solvable.

    Big difference I see is the original you can strategically get in the way of opponents which is half the fun😁

      I believe Rhado said there was getting in the way in this very edition, in his review. At least someone said this in their review. Particularly near those place if you end your movement you get a curse.

    I can see why you’d mention the feeling of ‘fetching’ on that particular map layout in your video. Perhaps the feeling of fetching would be less if the map tiles with a temple on the end, didn’t require you to back out or retrace the path out of the tile. A path that lead directly to another tile with a temple in other words.
    I do like this and I think I’ll
    Pick it up.
    It isn’t as linear, with multiple temple goals to undertake in any order. Would feel similar but different.

    I have now gotten my pre-order, and have to agree with Rahdo and disagree with Zee, as an expansion to the base game it was amazing. This is based on my 1 play today. But I loved it a lot, one of the best expansions for any game I have ever played, top 10 expansions for me. But I have not played it stand alone, so I cannot take a stance on this point, but I have little interest in doing so, it doesn't look or sound interesting.

    • @Steve-L
      @Steve-L Před 2 lety +7

      Many months and plays later... Zee is correct the game can be bloated if you mix EVERYTHING! However, I was a mixed fan of Heroes & Hexes, and now even less so with this. I usually don't use any tiles with Heroes & Hexes, half of the market cards, but still use pets and heroes, although even the heroes have lost much of their power with Temples. So the secret to not having bloat, is use the base game with this, and ignore Heroes & Hexes, or most of it. I have yet to play this as a stand alone, and only play with mixing it with the base game. It has become my wife and I's favorite game.

    I could not find in the rulebook if you are allowed to look back in your discard pile which cards you have already played and which not. I don't know what is better or more fair.

      chuckm1961 lot of shuffling and thats fiddly with small cards.. All other deckbuilders have normal size cards and new version that I mention suposed to have them if Im not mistaken

    • @AliciaDarky
      @AliciaDarky Před 4 lety

      But in this deck-building game cards don't have much information and the map already takes a lot of space, so their size is right.

    • @ivanr21
      @ivanr21 Před 4 lety +2

      @@AliciaDarky I adore the game but in my opinion since it revolves around the cards and deckbuilding it would be simpler and more enjoyable for me if cards were bigger size.. Maybe my hands are too large 😂

    For "theme" I'm not that concerned about checkpoints instead of just an end goal.
    However, I saw that Jeep card is faster than the OG's Plane and covers every terrain type, including the new clubs one. That's pretty bad thematically, but also balance wise. Instead of the Jeep being a bigger better Plane it could have been bad at water and/or jungle...
