"No," said Horus. "Garviel, no. That's not - "
But Loken wasn't about to stop now. "Turning my back on everything I knew, being cut off from the Legion that made me who I am? That was the worst moment of my life. It drove me insane. More than Tarik's death or being buried alive on Isstvan, it was the heartbreak and yawning emptiness that finally broke me."
"Then come back to me, Garviel," said Horus. "Feel that warmth again, don't you want to be part of the greatest endeavour the galaxy has ever seen?"

Once again Magnus did everything in his power to stop the Heresy, but failed, again. Magnus did nothing wrong intentionally, he just seems to screw up a lot. Failed to save Horus from corruption, failed to warn of Horus's betrayal, breaking the webway project in the process, and failed to save prospero as Magnus likely knew Leeman was on his way, and that Horus might have changed his orders, could have met the space wolves away from prospero and attempted to surrender. For someone so intelligent, Magnus clearly lacked wisdom. Actually Magnus did one thing wrong, should have told tzeentch to get fucked instead of selling his soul, cause if he had any wisdom he would have realized who had been fucking his legion over and would have been absolutely livid at chaos, especially toward Tzeentch. In the novel where this happens, Magnus can tell it was too late to reverse Horus’s chaos corruption and still tried…. and failed. If Magnus was there before Erebus, or even spent 1/10th of the time with Horus that Erebus spent with him then there would be zero chance Horus trusts Erebus The Cunt, over Magnus. Also, the only reason Magnus even knows or makes it to the “dream/warp” ( i don’t what the fuck they were in, Horus’s head?) to try and stop the Chaos conversion is because Tzeenetch told Magnus, merely to fuck with him and have have him show up too late and spectate the birth of the Horus Heresy, and have a nice chuckle back at the crib.

You know, there seems to be a lot of "for want of a nail" moments during the Horus Heresy.
There needs to be a timeline where the Blood Ravens steal some time-travel tech from the Necrons, decide to use it to discover their lost history, and then accidentally fixes everything while messing around in the past. Like they prevent the fall of the Interex, kill Erebus before he can cause any more problems, prevent Magnus from breaking the human webway, and probably convince the Tau to use melee weapons.
Then they return to the present to find that the Emperor is still alive, most of the Primarchs are around, the Imperium is much more advanced and way less oppressive, and everything has gone all Noblebright.

17:10 Here's my idea for a twist on the Big E's battle with Horus what if the reason sanguinus lost and the big E was mortally wounded was because one of the missing primarchs was with Horus and together they managed to clap the cheeks of both the Emperor and Hawk boy.
it'd be a great way to introduce them into the story and shed some light on what happened to them. as for how they could have survived? Well for all the talk of him being the emperors executioner Leman is a pretty big softy when it comes to his brothers so it's possible he let them go faked their deaths and claimed he killed them.

Theory: The deal the Emperor made with Chaos was to make sure that the primarchs were delivered to the perfect planets for bringing out their inner nature and building them up as people. With the bit of leeway they had, they planted the seeds of heresy early. Angron becoming a slave, Mortarion being gross, Lorgar with a bunch of pedo priests, etc. They would put them on a planet that would bring out the facets of their personality that they would suit the chaos god’s purposes best.
