    • @Winnetou17
      @Winnetou17 Před 2 měsíci +3

      They said it has a limit based on total disk capacity and how much you want to store it. I think it's something like 25 GB per month, and by default it stores 3 months, unless you have a really small disk, like a 256 GB SSD. And bigger ranges were 150 GB or 300 GB, don't remember. Frankly, for this day and age, it's not THAT much. Anyway, apparently if it gets filled, the older stuff gets deleted, so it doesn't overflow over this limit.
      Assuming there's no blatant lie or bug here, I'd say this is Recall's least concern.

    • @MiniDevilDF
      @MiniDevilDF Před 2 měsíci +14

      @@Winnetou17 That's still a lot. 75GB is a ton of space. Even on a 1TB disk, that's pushing 10% of the usable drive space after formatting, for an utterly stupid feature. This feature benefits Microsoft more than it does end users.

    • @Winnetou17
      @Winnetou17 Před 2 měsíci +1

    The problem with recall is that even if you opt out of it, any business that have your data could have it active. So basically it's a real goldmine for any possible zero day hacks to quickly grab and go with enormous amounts of customer data, medical data, financial data, etc etc. Public computers will also be compromised.

      @shaunod6745 Před 2 měsíci +3

      @TamasKiss-yk4st another thing, too, is that it could be used to find out patterns of behaviour by hackers to predict future movements. For example, if holiday details was pulled, then they would know when to target properties for breaking in, both homes and businesses. There are so many ways it could be used badly.

    • @ZackSNetwork
      @ZackSNetwork Před 2 měsíci +6

      It’s not gonna make a huge impact in games because not all games benefit from 3D v cache. Also there is a limit to the amount of cache a game would utilize regardless of it benefiting from having a lot of it. AMD needs to improve both their IPC and clock speed if they want to mop the floor with Intel.

    • @Savitarax
      @Savitarax Před 2 měsíci +1

      This would ultimately not be very effective or true for performance gain because the cache is across an entire ccd.

    Eh there were other reasons the asymmetrical chips for the 7950x3d were troublesome aside from clocks. Without putting in the effort to do so various programs didn't take full advantage as it would run them either on the wrong ccd or throttle down to match the x3d since it was using both on the same task. With finagling you could side step this but your average users wouldn't go to such extremes to do so. It ended up making the 7800x3d more preferred for eas of use and desired performance behavior.

    The hate against Recall is so stupid. Microsoft owns the OS and could abuse that to achieve the same result. Hackers install key loggers that do the same thing. Recall runs locally and is processed by a local model, making it just as secure as the OS. This is not a reduction in security posture, yet a large improvement in productivity. But people think "oh no, it's taking a screenshot, it must be a security risk!" while forgetting that the OS rendered that screen to begin with.

    I'd be okay with Microsoft releasing a 'Recall' App that you have to search for an install on your own. Sneaking a 'feature' like that in and enabling it by default is likely the scummiest data grab in the history of tech companies and that is REALLY saying something.

    From what i understood, Recall wouldn't work in the vast majority (99.9999%) of computers out there, since it's AI based you needed a Neural Unit (whatever the hell that is exactly) but your GPU doesn't count as one, even though GPUs have been the basis of AI for years now. So this Recall feature can't work on anyone's PC, yet why are they even talking about such a invasive feature? Microsoft is really slow at a adopting new hardware base tech like this, so it makes almost no sense they would add this into an OS when no one can use it. and no Recall wasn't going to be cloud based, it was going to be completely local (as they claim) which means it would take up a VAST amount of local storage and CPU cycles, and other resources that will bog down your PC. It's a dumb idea for many many reasons.

    The tech behind 3D V-Cache is almost antithetical to the thermal headroom required to overclock effectively. CPU's are difficult to engineer, and if AMD had this down, they would most likely be shouting it from the rooftops. Being kind of quiet and squirrely about it leads me to believe that the performance jump will be about the same percentage as the previous X3D Ryzen CPU's were to their standard non-X3D counterparts. Still good, but the physics/materials limitations are still there.

    Intel always has an answer to AMD when AMD one ups them. File a lawsuit claiming AMD violated one of their patents. They settle out of court in a cross licensing deal and Intel gains the use of AMD's invention. It happened with the 64 bit instruction set which AMD invented. AMD gained access to Intel's threading architecture in the process so I guess it was win win in that case.
