  • Skullz reacts to Third Eye (Salival) by Tool for the first time
Tool is an American rock band from Los Angeles. Formed in 1990... due to Tool's incorporation of visual arts and very long and complex releases, the band is generally described as a style-transcending act and part of progressive rock, psychedelic rock, and art rock. The relationship between the band and today's music industry is ambivalent, at times marked by censorship, and the band's insistence on privacy....Tool has won four Grammy Awards, performed worldwide tours, and produced albums topping the charts in several countries.

TRUE STORY. My daughter (now 22), when she was a baby, had moderate colic. She would be up all night screaming and crying. Nothing worked. Rocking in a chair, putting the TV on, bottles, binkies, nothing but time until she tired out and fell asleep. One night I was up at 2am with her screaming in the apartment, I was rocking her in the chair, and I said effit I'm just going to put some Tool on to drown this out. Third Eye was the first song on my playlist, and within moments she stopped crying. Her eyes widened for a few minutes, her ears perked, and she listened quietly. She fell asleep peacefully to this song that night, and every night afterwards. She's a Tool fan now of course, and have taken her and her sisters to 2 of their concerts since.

My daughter is 23 now, and a huge TOOL fan, but when she was about 3 years old, we would watch MTV 2, when MTV played actually music videos, when she heard Schism, she would stop what she was doing and watch it and sing along. Another time he was the kabuki girl, don't recall the other at the moment

It’s mesmerizing to watch Maynard. To me it’s like a physical manifestation of the way he feels the music. I believe the way he emotes to the music is the way he vocal can find a course and space through the music. Sure, you will probably find a few people close to the genre who are totally into this from the start, but for most this is just way too much happening. I hate to break it to you but that audio is from the Salival album not that particular performance hence why the end went black screen. Tool are known though for sounding the same if not better live than studio.
My absolute favourite performance from Tool is Lateralus live 2014 (video on Tool Archive’s channel), the audio and video quality are insane and they also do an insane instrumental in the middle, please check that out!

Honestly for a hand cam the quality is pretty passable, and wiggly Maynard during "Hush" is one of my favourite man-becomes-snake interactions I've ever witnessed. Hey Skullz !
You were definitely onto it...again. (From Wikipedia)
The anima and animus are described in Carl Jung's school of analytical psychology as part of his theory of the collective unconscious. Jung described the animus as the unconscious masculine side of a woman, and the anima as the unconscious FEMININE side of a man, each transcending the personal psyche.
I presume the album title is a play on anima/ enema as is the title song's meaning.

His shows are different now. Still the best show I’ve ever seen live. Without a doubt. He’s in the background now. Which he tells why and I completely understand. Especially after you see it. It’s more about the show and experience, the lights, the lasers, tv screens everywhere and huge backdrop with video that actually goes with the show. It’s absolutely amazing. He also has problems with the lights and anxiety. If you get a chance to see them live, gooooooooo. It will change you forever. That’s a promise

If you're going to take another week or two before starting 10,000 Days there's a few more songs off this live album you should review like Part of Me. It's off the Opiate. It's a short song but it's great like every other Tool song. You Lied is another one and they cover No Quarter by Led Zeppelin all of Salival. Can't wait for you to cover the last two albums.

Yes you definitely need to experience these cats live. They have only gotten better and better as time has passed. The visuals are also top shelf. I have seen them MANY times and have never been disappointed.
One thing I would recommend though if you're keen on watching the 4 of them get as close to the stage as you can. The big screens are dedicated solely to trippy visuals and do not show the band members themselves so being far back, like at a festival, puts you at a disadvantage for that.
