- Skullz reacts to Chocolate Chip Trip, 7empest, and Mockingbeat by Tool for the first time
Tool is an American rock band from Los Angeles. Formed in 1990... due to Tool's incorporation of visual arts and very long and complex releases, the band is generally described as a style-transcending act and part of progressive rock, psychedelic rock, and art rock. The relationship between the band and today's music industry is ambivalent, at times marked by censorship, and the band's insistence on privacy....Tool has won four Grammy Awards, performed worldwide tours, and produced albums topping the charts in several countries.

Whenever I listen to Tool, so do my neighbors.
Amen brother that is my saying also!!!!
I hope it has a guitar solo.
That would be nice đ
đ€Łđ€Łđ€Łđ€Łđ€Ł
There was a dabble of a guitar đž
Adam doesnât do solosâŠ. Oops lolđ
Sorry, there's only 77 solos
As another CZcams commenter stated: "You don't discover TOOL's music... it discovers you. When you're ready."
Chocolate chip trip is basically Danny messing around and flooring every other drummer out there
I feel like Tempest is all the riffs Adam saved up for 14 years being unleashed at once. Itâs definitely Adams moment to showcase his unbelievable sound. Thatâs not to take away from the other band members who are also amazing in this song. This is a masterpiece of epic proportions. I guess itâs fitting as a tempest is a storm of epic proportions.
True but Danny...fuck
It literally is, he said in an onterview at some point the riff for 7empest was in production for over 16 years at the time of release
This song won them a Grammy.
Chocolate Chip Trip... Danny's warm-up for 7emptest.
Adam said, "Hold my beer" đș
To me, 7empest is Undertow and 10k Day's lovechild. It's a masterpiece.
Good point
Adam won that Grammy fair and square.
After 3 decades in Tool's music I've been following your discovery journey with great interest... Really enjoyed your mindful and emotional reactions !
This is greatness . It needs to be listened to a few times . Adam Jones shows what he has always had up his sleeve and the Tone King shreds .
So satisfying!
The first 4 or 5 times I listened to this, it was completely alien. Slowly it started seeping into my brain, like an infection. It's still not my favorite, but it's up there.

The album was released about 4 months before Covid became known to the world. It's about fear causing agents of any kind with some maybe topical phrases for your imagination :)
This was the last tour i saw before the world shut down. And then they were my first show once my state opened again. Saw them the day they released Opiate2 in Jersey
Any and All of their Salival album... 'You Lied' off that album is a MUST!
Hey, I never usually come back to reactions after I've watched them for the first time, but I've consistently been watching your videos on TOOL for ages now because your take on these songs has actually helped me realise a lot more about myself and the world. not to say that I think it's the be-all end-all of things to know.
The tool cover of zepâs âno quarterâ is truly a must. Itâs off the salival album.
I just spent a week straight binging your tool reactions like it was a Netflix show. Low on sleep from saying âJust one moreâ until 4am. Your lyric analysis gave me so much more depth to the songs Iâve loved for decades. FI was a great treat of an album for the fans. Another masterpiece. Watching this series of videos was a pleasure:) I hope you catch them on this tour!
Their cover of, No Quarter! However, if you haven't heard Led Zeppelin's original do that one first so you can really appreciate what TOOL did with it to make it their own.
Perhaps a double feature? đ
Upvote! Listening to Zepâs version first, then Toolâs is almost like listening to Pushit off Ănima then the Salival version. Both originals are beautiful, and both Salival versions are otherworldly!
YES! This just amped up my TOOLsday! Be sure to check out any of the other tracks skipped over from Salival (No Quarter, You Lied, etc.) and The Witness by Adam Jones with Danny and Justin on board. I feel like that track perfectly encapsulates Tool's sound progressed beyond the Fear Inoculum album đ€

Yes, please, but listen to the No Quarter original first.
You lied hits so good
Hey Skullz, hoping you're doing well. Just want to come back here and thank you for the wonderful moments of living your first Tool journey along with you. I remember eagerly waiting for Tool tuesday and eating it all up.
Just incredibly grateful you committed so much to it and fell in love with it.
Love you bro, stay well, you are a gem!đ
Second that! If you're ever up for doing more reactions, there is tons of good stuff to discover yet!
Thank you for taking us on this trip with you! And yes, please do take us with you again for Puscifer and A Perfect Circle.
I wonderâŠ.
To me, Tool is it. I had a pretty eclectic musical experience prior to them (50s through 80s stuff my mom listened to in the car on cassette, 60s to 80s rock my dad jammed in his truck, 80s stuff from the jump off of MTV, Alabama to Zeppelin, you get the idea). Personally, I was a âclassic rockâ (Sabbath, Zeppelin, Eagles, stuff like that), âmetalâ (Metallica, Judas Priest, etc), and âalternativeâ (Smells Like Teen Spirit was the first song I ever played in my first car, Pearl Jam, Alice In Chains, Soundgarden)âŠ.
Then Tool. Totally changed how I experience every song Iâve ever heard whether for the first time or the 100th. Itâs weird. It calls to me. Itâs like my brain has been wired to say âhey you know what just happened? You need some Flood, or some H., or some Lateralus, or some 10,000 Days, or some Right in Two, or the entirety of Fear InnoculumâŠ.â
All music to me is now referenced to the way Tool makes me think and feel. To me, theyâve ruined all others. Not that I donât still appreciate blasting Master of Puppets, but itâs just not the same any moreâŠ.
Thatâs me anyhow.
Finally! I kept thinking "WTF happened?" LOL.
Given it shows as uploaded before his last video, I presume it's quite long, needed editing, and he wanted to be available/online for the premiere.
The guitar and bass sound a lot like "Flood". And a tempest would certainly cause a flood. "Cleanse and purge me in the water!".
Chocolate Chip Trip's name was from the cookies that were provided to Tool at the studio or place Danny did some recordings. Apparently the cookies were the highlight that helped get them through long days and so he named his drum insanity in honor of those cookies. Legendary cookies apparently. Also 7empest is a beautiful song that won a Grammy. Come back after so long away and drop a Grammy winning song. People like to attribute this song to particular people or situations but Maynard is rarely so specific unless it's about himself. Amazing song all around, every member flexes.

This song brings out all the Tool
The squeel at the end of his solo accompanied by the double kick leading into the next segment is the slickest shit I ever heard lol
Facts!
I am kind of sad to see this journey end. I enjoyed your often refreshing perspective on their songs and how you were able to relate to the cohesion of their tracks and albums, be it either musically or narratively.
Iâll definitely be here for your journey revisiting A Perfect Circle. Mer de Noms is one of my all time favorite albums â€

My favorite part is when the original riff comes in over that monstrous bass line towards that
Definitely do Opiate2 (squared) next! Would totally be down for a deep dive like this through APC and Puscifer!
Adam is pulling all kinds of influence. But its still him. I love playing in this tone. This band is soo artful.
THE TEMPEST MUST BE JUST THAT! đ€
All great ideas! Our TOOL ARMY is always up for new members
Thyetre's basically a "Tool without Maynard" track making the rounds, called The Witness, which Adam Jones composed to celebrate the recent release of his signature guitar tie-in through Gibson Les Paul, onh which he got Danny and Justoin to help him put together. It's purely instrumental, but it's still AWESOME.
Yesss I wanna see your friends react. Do full albums so it's more convenient for him.
Agreed, do it!
The band: Hey Adam, we need to finish up the album, ya got any riffs or solos left?
Adam: Hold my beer...
This epic Masterpiece received an Emmy for Best Rock song in 2019! I was laughing when you said I hope I hear a great đž guitar solo !! Love your insightful reactions, in delving into Maynardâs lyrics. I felt like I learned something new even though Iâm an OGT fan for 30 years !!
I think you mean a Grammy. Emmys are for TV.

Dude, the way you deep dive into the lyrics is what makes you my favorite reactor and is why I NEED you to get into Rage Against the Machine
Tool's music has so much depth that it's always fun hearing reactions to it. Your insights have certainly enhanced my appreciation of some of their songs since I see them differently. I can understand some of their expression through their music. While I always thought the music for 'The Grudge' stands out in terms of how it goes with the lyrics, I can see where this is the case with other songs. Your comments highlighted this, in particular with 'Invincible', and now '7empest'.
I find it fascinating this album came out right before the COVID 19 pandemic.
CCT is the one track they always give Danny (Faaip de oaid, Viginte Tres) where he can be as Danny as he wants to be. He normally performs this whole thing solo as the rest of the band takes a break.
Great series, enjoyed the whole ride with you, now you have to wait for more like the rest of us :(
A couple of good Tool side quests -
"Judith" by A Perfect Circle - This song is about Maynards mum and fits in between Jimmy and Wings for Marie on the time line.
"No Quarter" from Salival - A Led zepplin cover, have watched your other salival reactions.
"You Lied" and "Don't make me you're god" by Peach gb - Justins band around the same time as Undertow before he joined Tool, these two songs are bangers, Tool actually covered "You lied" later on Salival.
"The Humbling River" and "The Remedy" by Puscifer
I love your lyric interpretations. It always gives me a new perspective on their songs
Thanks for the TOOL journey!
Donât forget the Salival album. You will LOVE no quarter.
Where are you Skullz?. We miss you!!!. I hope you are doing well!!. Patricio from Buenos Aires.
Tool is an adventure
I followed this tool trip with you, it was amazing your interpretation of songs. I rediscover tool. Thank you for this experience.
I recomended listen porcupine tree. IÂŽm shure you like them
Iâve always known Adam was a master of tone, creativity and constructing an all encompassing atmosphere. But somebody let that freak off of his fucking tether for this one. Amazing.
What a journey that was, thank you Skullz. I'm waiting for more. :D
Hey Skullz when you do find the time to come back, you should check out You Lied and No Quarter from Tool. They're both covers from the Salival album from Tool and they're amazing
HIGHLY recommend checking out A Perfect Circle - Orestes (Live at Red Rocks)...it is a perfect recording of a perfect performance. There's a moment where Billy Howerdel is playing a guitar solo and you can see the rain falling down on him in the middle of it...goosebumps how good it is!
Checking out Puscifer's full discography from beginning to end would be epic too!
Finally, Skullz gets the Adam heâs always needed!
In the later build up Adam's picking both sides of each string to do that rapid sound
YEEEEAH!! IT IS HAPPENING!! đ„°đ€
can't wait for you to hear opiate squared đ
Iâm glad you finally made it. Thank you for putting in the time and effort to take us on this journey with you man. It was very enjoyable and I look forward to A Perfect Circle and Puscifer
Skullz, I like the idea of inviting your friend for a reaction! Revisiting my own Tool journey via this channel has been amazing, and your thoughts, emotions, and insights have been outstanding. I can't believe how quickly you picked up on the "meaning" to their songs on the first listen, and I can easily imagine you adding insight to the first experience of your buddy! The only real question therefore would be, which songs first?
This band really never ceases to amaze me they are on another level and those drums sooooo crazy clean đłđŻđ„đ§Żđ
YOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!! I hope you're doing good bro Jam to some TOOL either way.
Loved the beautiful incredible journey with you ...been phenomenal you are amazing much love an God bless always x
Isn't it crazy that Tool has never been replicated, ever, not once by any other band past or present, and among billions of artists that have ever existed Tool stands alone as the absolute best proximity of the best 4 humans on earth who cared about music and had the audacity to call things as they are seen to them? God broke the mold after creating these 4 individuals so I hope you get an earful. No lies detected.
Chocolate Chip trip is a bit of a snooze. Come at me Tool Army, but the Grateful Dead was doing this in the early 80s. It was the point in the show where we all went to take a pee. đ
Can't wait for this! Good to have you back!
It has been so long since you have posted any content, hopefully you have not got lost in the tempest... I honestly miss my weekly check in for your interpretation on the depths of Tool hope you are doing well.
well, "A Tempest will be just that..."
When everyone starts waking up against fear; it is going to get a bit rough; but to know you are making the gale, you are prepared.
Hope all is well âŠ. Itâs been a while since you posted. Miss the perspective
Itâs sound therapy. I use a symphonic gong to get centered. Itâs really amazing how sounds affect us !!!
It's been fun to see you go through the discography and your interpretation of it all. Glad to hear you mention just how much you have grown to appreciate how Justin has really elevated the band. Something you would probably enjoy is the interview he did for Ernie Ball strings. It was part of a series called String Theory.
I remember one of them saying in an interview around the time of the album release that Adam had written some of this back when they were making Aenima and they just never found a place where it fit in before.
I really enjoyed this whole journey. Made me a bit emotional to see it end because it reminded me that I will need to wait until 2075 for a new Tool album but their music is always there to keep us company when we need it most. A tempest must be just that. I'm happy I was here since the first Tool video. Cycles end and new adventures begin. Take care man, now I would love to see a Primus journey, that would be amazing. Peace!
I really enjoy hearing your take on these songs. You are really good at breaking down the meaning of the songs, which I really appreciate.
Was awesome following your Tool journey bud. One of the best reaction journeys on CZcams. Thank you for the great entertainment. This band is definitely a fit with who you are and what you like. Looking forward to your journey with APC (which I know you have heard a few songs) and Puscifer. Keep spiralling out đđđđđ€đŒ
Oh and would definitely watch you and your buddy reacting to more Tool and even you reacting to some of their best live clips. There aren't many great live vids, but there are some. Cheers!
I like the way Adam exits just as the first "calm before the torrent comes" line starts, never actually noticed until this listen through
I love you hat you were closing your eyes and letting your mind, and spirit, to indulge freely

Band: hey adam, how many riffs do u have for this new song?
Adam: Yes
Ever since I saw your first reaction to Tool, I was impressed with your sense of awareness and insight. I've been waiting for you to get to this particular song and break down of lyrics. You did not disappoint. And you helped me see from a different "lens" I rather enjoy your "Ted talks" and think if more reactors could share their insights like that, the internet and the world would become much healthier for it. Great job bro, thank you.
It has been such a privilege and so fun to participate in your TOOL journey! Yes, yes, please don't end here - you have such a unique perspective and interpretation of their work - hope it continues on in any form. Visiting their live performances, especially from the early days, is one of my favorite things to do. Sending much peace and love your way....
I miss your videos đą
You made it! Now you get to wait with the rest of us for the next one.
Was a fantastic journey. I enjoy your thoughts man. Looking forward to reacting together on the next one.đ€â„ïž
Chocolate Chip Trip is 100% Danny at play. It's HIS song, and live he literally performs it alone on stage while the other guys take an intermission. It struck me as a little weird at first, but now I just love to close my eyes and call back the image I have burned into my memory of him up there - a giant with a joyful, little boy smile- just absolutely beating the FUCK out of that kit. đ€đâ€ïžâđ„â€ïžâđ„â€ïžâđ„đ€
Definitely 100% better live, in fact when I saw them last year he seemed to have really refined the electronic melody. Sounded very Tricky/Massive Attack
15 minutes of adventure
CCT is a great reminder that in addition to being Zeppelin and Floyd, Tool is also Rush.
Would love to follow along the same way with puscifer
Frequencies and vibration!!! spot on!!
Not vibes but the very construct of reality!
Here it is! At long last
What a ride! Both this song and the whole reaction discography. I've enjoyed your journey so much. Thanks Skullz!
Yes on A Perfect Circle and Puscifer reactions
Glad youâre back brother. Hope all is well. Looking forward to this reaction.
Loved the Tool reactions and following your journey, man. Sucks it's the end đȘ
I've read that the song is also a critism against paranoid tyrants that could cause massive damage. You know Tool though, they could be open to many meanings. I enjoyed your reaction journey dude l, I'm glad you enjoyed their music. They have changed my life for sure!
I loved the smile on your face through the whole song! Genuine enjoyment. Glad to have been part of this journey with you and I look forward to more. Take care!
"Divorced" by Tool & Melvins from the album The Crybaby would be an obscure deep-cut to do.
Written by Melvins drummer Dale Crover, the song features both Tool and Melvins performing where each band is hard-panned to each channel of the song's mix. Tool recorded their part in their rehearsal space during pre-production for Lateralus. Very fun, psychedelic freak out kind of song where Tool gets to do more of their rare, silly stuff.
Also, doing a deep dive of the Melvins would be great. They're just as great as Tool and have inspired even more bands throughout their career, including Tool. The sludgy first half of "Flood" is Tool's love-letter to the Melvins.
love ya man.
Skullz. Itâs been an absolute pleasure. Itâs a bit sad you finished it up, only in the sense you wonât be reacting to a first time listen. But it was inevitable.
On the whole being your friend in. YES. Absolutely YES!
Iâll keep my third eye out for the next video.
Pink Floyd journey maybeâŠhint hint.
Hell yeah! Can' wait!1
I feel like danny and justin are the train barreling down the tracks and they pick up a couple of passengers and one of the passengers starts tripping on acid and creates the greatest guitar track ever layed down. And the other passenger is feeling tempted to write lyrics about bastards and cookies and cream
Finally it is here !
The Message is in the Drums Danny got a knowledge a higher understanding he is the brain in Tool
Well... Now all we have to do is to wait for your reaction to the New Album!)))
