There are millions of children trying to fulfill the career path their parents have chosen for them! He is not alone.
The Caribbean parenting part✋🏾 glad he found his path🙏🏾
This is wonderful! As a career coach, I meet so many in the wrong career!
It's so important to find your passion and purpose in life and to pursue it... thank you for the reminder Anthony.... 🙌🏽
Thank you Anthony! This is how I feel!! It doesn't matter what job/career you have, if you are not fulfilled, that job literally STOMPS THE LIFE AND JOY OUT OF YOU .
facts
What unfulfilling job you have boo? If I may ask..
Melissa, well said.

Sounds like Nigerian/African parents… God bless their hearts.

This interview speaks to me. I left a steady career a few years ago to find my own happiness.

Caribbean parents in their pursuit for a better life for their families can leave you with mental scars no matter how much love you and they have 🫶🏾
Wow !
This deserves way more views. 🎉
Too many of us grew up in that era of career, career, career, and only the best career will do. I used to work in the psych field and the burnout yet still needed to do it all plus have a part-time job and often another to make ends meet. As a single mom without any family as well. I finally stopped at 55 with lots of health-induced issues. I studied to become a holistic practitioner. Something was still off. My major was art in college but I grew up in the era of you'll be a struggling artist so get a safe job. Last year at 63 yrs of age finished the first draft of what I hope to be a series. I am amazed at the number of female lawyers I have met in international writing groups who left the practice of law to write. Once they made that decision they thrived. While I was writing my first book I realized I was happier than I had ever been. I had found my tribe. I also traveled for several years by myself with my dog. Driving throughout the USA several times. Winter in Mexico and then onto Europe these past five years. I do NOT want to be on my deathbed saying "I wish I had done"
This is so liberating.
This is everything! So awesome he has turned his life completely around. I know exactly what he is talking about. I’m a nurse practitioner and not sure if post pandemic everything came up and completely altered my mindset. I enjoyed caring for oncology patients however the whole flow of my role and witnessing highs and lows patient experiences took a toll on me. I also have other passions in life which were surprisingly slowly got suppressed over time. I became less creative and totally consumed with work and literally saving lives. Well march 2022 God spoke to me and said if you don’t change something you will go through a breakdown. I pondered over if I show leave my department at the number #1 cancer center and find new purpose. I had no idea he was leading me to the other side which was cancer prevention. I have been much happier over all and it’s an honor to be able to care for patient ( screening them for cancer, survivorship care) versus managing/ treating cases receiving chemo, radiation and surgery.
I am now able to get back to who I was years ago a little girl. Creative mind is back and so needed. I remember in college over courses taking science classes but a few elective opportunities lead me to creative writing , theatre classes, dance - I felt so free however I was more comfortable in science during that time so pursue nursing.
But omg I totally understand what he is talking about. I’m truly happy for him. Funny thing I use to watch those medical shows and say gosh they need medical professionals on set because some things are kinda off .. so happy he was called for the assignment 🤍
Thank you for sharing ❤
@IMcCormick so true . When I was in high school it was mandatory all student learn music and take art classes. My whole class either was in Band or choir of course until like mid sophomore year if sports were involved but yep I agree. Our high school band use to be huge but if you see the program now it’s so sad.
We were exposed to arts and music early but I don’t know what happen in the early 2000’s. Also all of us had to take AP classes & enrichment courses because the school was a magnet school. Most of us already had college credit upon graduation because of the health occupation courses, STEM courses… I totally 💯 percent agree.
God always works in mysterious ways. But I believe God placed him in the medical field to prepare him for his role in writing for Greys Anatomy. Love this. Born to Caribbean parents, we have something in common already.😊
Great story of finding true purpose and happiness. I hope to get there one day.
i agree. retired/resigned from the medical field and it was very draining for me. i am an empath so it was especially difficult. the funny thing is i was excellent in some of it and terrible in other parts of it.
Me too!! It's the empath in you. We can literally take on the pain and discomfort of patients and family!
Great testimony ❤
This blessed me
Your truths are my reason for being... Thank you for speaking your truths!❤🎉❤🎉😊
Beautiful story, I am so inspired. What a blessing!
I can't imagine going all those years and years and years of studying only to (in my opinion) throw it all away.... WOW!! That's sad to me! That is so sad that he didn't feel ____ enough to get off that train before he did. Man!! But I am glad that he is happy now! He is not stressed or depressed. Depression sucks to the utmost! It's not good to do something that you hate to do! That is so not fun at all.
I remember my stint as a hospice nurse. I absolutely hated to go to work every day. I cried almost every day! I don't know why i tortured myself! I knew I should have quit after the second week! I don't know what i was thinking? Unfortunately, I hate to admit that I did the bare minimum! It's really difficult to do and continue to do something that you do not like/hate even! I am glad that he is not being choked anymore! I am happy for him😊!!
This helps me to be inspired as I take steps along my journey to the other side & into the future that I envision! Thanks for sharing 💙
Much needed discussion 💙💙🔥🙏🏾📚
So inspiring 💖💖💖
When you go through all of this education and this is not what you want to do, your parents have a chokehold on you that asphyxiates you for years, and in some cases a lifetime. Parents know their children, and his parents knew he didn't want to be a doctor, but they didn't care. It brings status to the family. This really was for the parents to feel good.
I work around colleagues all day long who brag about where their sons and daughters go to school, and what they are studying. The ones who do this have children who are studying law, and something to do with the medical field.
How many jacked up doctors and lawyers have you met? What kind of psyche do you have when you are a doctor and don't want to be one? I wouldn't want a doctor like that! They make mistakes and kill people, and the hospital covers it up. I have heard the stories from a nurse.😢
Tam looks awesome
Use what God gave you in the way that feels like you.
What an inspiring interview!
Soooo gooooood 👍🏽❤
