Boys! You guys are awesome! I love that you felt the ABB in just 1 song. Next song ONE WAY OUT at the Fillmore. You will learn so much about the joy of making music from them. They were around when Zep Sabbath Hendrix were at their peak. They were the pioneers of white Southern boogie blues! This was one of their 1st recorded tracks on their debut. A tamed down version of the band in 1969-1970. They were formed by imo the greatest slide guitar player DUANE ALLMAN! There are 2 guitarists 2 drummers bass and his little bro Greg on the B3 and vocals. The original band was only together for 3 years and managed to create their own genre. That being said their 'Live at Fillmore East' is known as the best live album of a time in many peoples eyes. They are my favorite band.

Enjoyable review to "feel." Especially after a break up. Haha.
Since you're in '69, going to '70 is a good transition - to '70 sleeper Trapeze's Medusa. You will never regret it!
Enjoy your weekend, Alex and Andy!

This song was done in 6/8 time and over the 3 years with Duane until he died at 24 from a motorcycle crash and then pretty much 1 year later to the day their bass player died in a motorcycle crash a few blocks from where Duane died.. they played many different time signatures. Butch was a marching band drummer and Jaimoe was a jazz drummer.. together with Berry on bass they have a monster rhythm section! DUANE.. he was the sole reason I picked up a guitar and I spent years learning his style and all of his solos on live Fillmore East.

Statesboro Blues would be my first suggestion. The Allman Brothers Band were a force of nature and the sons of Gregg Allman and Dickie Betts have now formed the Allman Betts Band, and are carrying on the family names. If you hear them playing any of the old Allman Brothers Band music you really can't tell the difference. They are that good! Also, there were two drummers in the Allman Brothers Band. Incredible group the musicians! Peace!

The song was released November 4, 1969, written by Gregg Allman when he was 21. He was the singer as well. Gregg wrote this on an ironing board using burnt matches. He got the idea in the middle of the night and couldn't find a pen. This searing song is about a man who has been betrayed by his woman to the point where he feels like he's helpless - just tied to the whipping post, awaiting more punishment. Gregg Allman wrote it in Jacksonville in 1968, just after he returned from Los Angeles. Dwayne Allman played lead guitar.

From his studio work, to playing on the "Layla" album with Eric Clapton as well as with the Allman Brothers, and he did it all in his short 24 years here on earth. Since you’ve worn a DMB shirt in vids, I’m guessing you all are at least familiar with some of these groups of current bands. But if you wanted to review a solid choice, there are vids of Derek Trucks (his dad was in Allman Brothers, and he’s one of the greatest guitarists alive - married to one of the top female blues singers )- playing with Trey Anastasio, swapping sit-ins with each others’ bands at a festival in 2019.

Allman Brothers used two drummers. Greg Allman, 21 years old when he first sang this, he was on the organ. Duane Allman died on a motorcycle about a year after this was recorded, he is considered one of the greatest guitarist of all time and he created the band and is the grandfather of Southern Rock, the founder. Dicky Betts, the other guitarist, also is listed in the top 75 greatest guitarist. This band is bluesy/rock and is also known for great lyrics and in live versions would just go off on wicked guitar solos that could last as long as 45, 50 minutes.Other great songs include: Ain't My Cross To Bear, Southbound, I'm No Angel, Ain't Waisting Time No More, Good Clean Fun, No One To Run With. For your information, This is the first band to have dual drummers (not one. Not talkin about percussionist, full drumsets) and dual lead guitarists . A concept that thank goodness has been continued by the Tedeschi/Trucks Band. And rightfully so because Derek Trucks uncle Butch Trucks was one of the two original drummers of the Band (Capitalized because in the beginning when Rock/Southern Rock oozed out of the mud of the deep south, they were the foundation. They were the standard measured by). Also Derek first played with the Allman Brothers when he was 12 or 13 yrs old. Later to join the band in the 2000's. Susan Dedschi's band opened for them during this time (That is how she and Derek met,) So,yes, it is only fitting and true that these two carry on the tradition two drummers and two guitars, Although in the truest sense of the word Susn plays more rhythm than lead . She is steady growing as a lead player though. One can only hope that one day she and Derek will continue on with what Duane and Dickey started.
I cannot end without speaking of the classic southern blues/r%b perfect voice of Greg. if you take Greg or Dwayne out of the equation, there wouldn't be an ALLMAN BROTHERS BAND or rock and roll as we know it today!Another dynamic that oozes out of the collective gumbo of the deep south. You can mimic it but you can't own it without the experience of the deep south. That is why it all started down here. Yeah! Hallelujah!!! Sorry so wordy. But there isn't but ONE

Kathy here - if you like the Allman Brothers, you need to listen to One way out - live - I have watched on here and there is no copyright on it. Then It's not my Cross to Bear and Midnight rider. All excellent songs. Greg is the lead singer, and he and his brother grew up about 25 miles from my hometown. Met Greg when I was 14. They were playing a free concert in Atlanta at Piedmont Park in downtown Atlanta. Greg and I actually became really close friends, and I was in touch with him up until about a month before he passed away. Duane Allman plays the slide guitar, and he was killed in a motorcycle accident at a young age. All of Georgia wept. To me, and yes, I am biased, they were one of the best all time southern rock and roll bands. Again, so glad to see the younger generation appreciating great music. Thanks for your review. Have a blessed day and keep reacting!

Also they recorded live. Old school style. One big room, live takes, maybe some splicing from different takes, but all live.
Also I love how you pointed out the pulling of the bass and the grounding of the keys. Yes. Sound engineers unite!

Gregg Allman wrote this song at age 20. All the band members were in their early 20's in this album and the Fillmore Live album.

Hey guys - Love your channel! Great instrumental banger by the Allman Bros is “Jessica”. I also love “Ramblin’ Man” and the haunting melody of “Midnight Rider”.

Live at the Fillmore East “Statesboro Blues”!!!
The intro alone is worth it with Duane Allman’s slide work.

Blue Sky is a must. That guitar solo is harmonic, melodic and hypnotic. The perfect trifecta.

Andy when you started your channel doing full album Floyd and Sabbath reacts I knew you were someone that was truly searching for real music. Then you bring on Alex who I could tell even before you guys made it public that you both were musicians reminded me of me and my friends who spend some really late nights jamming and then trying to rip each others heads off playing albums of our musical heroes. I'm saying this for real you guys are real and that's why you connect with this music and that's why we all connect with you. Honestly if I were you guys I would do a full album Friday cut of Allman's Live at the Fillmore East start to finish. I guarantee you it will change your lives. I'm 100% serious- this cut was only the tip of the iceberg for them. DUANE will change you as a player. He was what has never been and never will again. Much love guys!!

Thanks for playing The Allman Brothers Band, my favorite band for 50 years. "Don't Want You No More/It's Not My Cross To Bear" was off their first album in 1969, would love to see your review. The Live at the Fillmore East was considered one of the greatest live albums of all time.

If you give this studio version a 10, you can't even grasp how much better it is on their live "at The Fillmore" album.

My daughter's elementary school had an annual Fall Festival for the kids. One year they hired a live band to play at the festival. It was an Allman Brothers cover band, and "Whipping Post" was one of the songs they played to the audience of little kids. I was digging it, but the kids thought it was scary.

1969 and they weree all soooo young! 17 to 21. 2 sets of drums and 2 lead players. By the way Gregg Allman wrote that and he was 17 years old and he sang it like he was an old soul.

You guys are great- I just discovered your channel. It was 1971 - It's a Beautiful Day opening for the Allman Brothers at Musicarnival. A big tent- either we were broke or couldn't get tickets so we ran around being chased by guys in Karate suits but managed to sneak in lifting up the tent. Unbelievable show- 2 drummers in crazy synchronization. Greg's amazing vocals and Duane's masterful guitar. (He played for Clapton doing the slide on Layla). Sadly, he died in a motorcycle accident four months after I saw them. It's a Beautiful Day were equally amazing. ❤

I am 63...grew up on this music and am happy people are finding it again...Allman Brothers is one of the biggest bands of all time...we have current groups that grew up from these groups like Tedeskie Trucks Band, Derick Trucks uncle was the Drummer for Allman Brothers, Warren Haynes with Gov't Mule played guitar with them in the day and on a different note Joe Bonamasa especially the Carnegie Hall Album is priceless.

'69, I believe. Band had ups and downs and more than their share of tragedy. THE pioneers of southern blues rock. Check out, in the same vein, their "Not My Cross to Bear". Tasty.

One of ABB's most popular songs is an acoustic sort-of ballad called "Melissa" which has a lead guitar playing almost through the entire song. ABB, and other southern rock, used major pentatonic in the solos quite a bit which gives it a sweet, unique feel. ABB also used two lead guitars in harmony a lot, as they do in Whipping Post.
