Love this song. Thanks for checking it out. Just a suggestion, check out either on the channel or personally Tesla's cover of this song on the album "Five Man Acoustical Jam". Their best selling record to date. Hence it's acoustic and live. That is really a great album. It's very similar but without the electric instruments. Really emphasizes the harmonies. They still do this song in concert. Speaking of discrimination socially or otherwise my Dad would not be served by anyone with a visible tattoo. There is an inherent attitude that if you have long hair or a tattoo then you aren't serious about what you are doing. Just like those drivers that back into a parking spot. My pet peeve.

The song's owners do, however, believe in copyrights. Remember fondly the song and the times, and it was some years later that this bit of irony occurred to me. At least there's no problem for A & A to post this reaction video, whew!

See, this is where teaching history in school really falls down. Anything after WWII is pretty scattershot. My kids were born in Chicago, and had never heard about the trial of the Chicago 7. (There was a play with that name performed in a small Chicago theatre. I took a friend from England. She couldn’t believe that every word and every action came directly from the court transcripts.) Or, as it turns out, anything regarding the anti-war movement at all. My husband and I were talking about … something, no idea what, and I said something like “oh, it’s like the hippies vs the hard hats”. And the rest of the afternoon was spent explaining about that, starting with what a “hard hat” was.

Anthem for a generation. So glad to have been a part of it.

The Five Man Electrical Band originated as a band from Ottawa, Canada called the Staccatos. They were very popular. Their biggest hit as the 5 Man was a song called "Signs" which charted strongly.

So happy to hear the original!! Sang along with every word! Remember my dad taking me if I was going to wear my hair long, keep it clean!! Not bad for a bald guy! RIP DAD!

The word "pop" is not correct for this music. It's very "trippy" stuff with allusions to drugs like LSD etc. This is album rock which is meant to be listened to from side one through side two all at the same time. It takes you on a journey in your mind. Turn it on.. close your eyes.. and feast on the whole album.

They recorded that song just prior to powerful amps being created. It would have been way louder on better amps.

Another hippie anthem from the Seventies.

At 10 years old, when this song came out, I was into it immediately. I knew I was going to grow up having "long haired freaky people" in my life. Being a Deadhead, I was right. At 63, I still hang out with them.

Long hair like rock music was part of the cultural revolution. As rock bands became more accepted into the mainstream so did the fashions.

The story of how Lynyrd Skynyrd got their name is a great example of this song. In high school in the 60s in Jacksonville, Fla, some of the original band members used to get hassled constantly by their gym teacher, one Leonard Skinner, for having long hair, so later they mockingly named the band after him with the changed spelling. After they got famous they developed a mutual respect for each other, which was pretty cool.

I’m a stranger here and werewolf are both great songs by them as well!!
