Hello & welcome! I’m so glad you’re here.
    💠 My Story.
When I was an undergrad nutrition student at Boston University, my digestive health issues were at their worst. I remember standing in the grocery store re-reading the label on a box of crackers, filled with overwhelm and confusion. I felt totally lost as to what to eat or how to eat due to my digestive issues. After dozens of doctor appointments, ER visits, and medical tests, my anxiety was at an all-time high and my list of “safe foods” was dwindling every day. When my doctors were at a loss for advice and my condition was not improving - I knew I needed to take my healing into my own hands.
When I finally realized that my mind and gut were connected - everything changed. I prioritized self-care and mindfulness practices in order to pull myself out of constant “fight or flight mode”. Instead of restricting, I started nourishing my gut and living my life again. Much to my surprise, my digestive system responded and began to heal. Through the power of individualized nutrition and lifestyle changes, my health (and my life) transformed.

First time I’ve heard vagus nerve hypersensitivity due to hyper vigilance from anxiety, viral infections affecting gi motility, and microbiome shifts due to antibiotics -all creating reflux…super informative thank you for educating us because my GI doc never talked about this!!

I got the ‘vid and it led to the 100 day cough. Then a bunch of throat clearing. Pretty sure I had Post Viral Vagal Neuropathy. It eventually led to this LPR I have now. I ate whole food diet but had to reduce caffeine (coffee) and weekend alcohol. Trying to find a doctor to help treat this is hard. Doing a 20 minute video with this expert is a crime. I’ve seen and heard her a couple other places go on for an hour with awesome information.

I've had GERD symptoms everyday since 2022. I had the upper endoscopy(perfectly fine).I've changed my eating habits since. I avoid citrus, dairy, fried foods, sodas, juice, caffeine, I'm super active/work out daily etc.
I do have severe anxiety and I've improved drastically. It's been stressful, but I'm glad I discovered this channel.

@@b.w.98 I still get symptoms occasionally, but for the most part I feel normal.
It's hard to stick with a strick diet, but it's for the best. I've always been active; working out, so I knew the predominant cause was my anxiety.
I eat clean throughout the week, no sugar, citris, or foods with acid. Avoiding processed foods and eating more home cooked meals and snacks, and enjoy myself on the weekends.
Also, I use slippery elm extract, and Marshmallow extract to help.

The job of acid is to digest food ... and that is so important .... blocking acid means blocking health ... it is the job of bile from gall bladder to neutralize acid .... So why is no one talking about bile .... and gall stones which block bile ....

Thank you so much for this!!! This is extremely helpful! The only cause I have heard about that I didn't see mentioned was that low acid in the stomach can also cause reflux. Is that completely separate? How would you know if you have one or the other?

I went completely whole food plant based in June of last year. I started with an herbal detox for a month. By the end of this detox I was dealing with LPR symptoms and have been ever since despite elevation of head, avoid acid foods, spicy, keeping up right after meals. Not drinking coffee, smoking or any other lifestyle issues that contribute. Have lost 15/20 pounds going plant based. During the detox I did have an orange slice most days to assist with the taste of the herbal teas. I also had lemon and lime in my plant based recipes. I immediately stopped the citrus once I found you guys and at the end of the month long detox. I try to not exercise where I’m applying lots of abdominal pressure. I have used Gaviscon. I currently use reflux raft. I have eased up on the acidic foods and began to incorporate things like cooked onions. Of course we had the holidays and not always sure what was in food. But I’ve been mostly adherent to the lifestyle changes. I’ve begun to try to thoroughly chew my foods in smaller amounts more recent. Any thoughts?

Sounds like you are doing most of it right. According to Dr. Jamie Kauffman,LPR expert, she says number one thing is eat a small, early dinner. At least 3-4 hours before bedtime. Then, no alcohol late at night. Big late dinner with alcohol equals perfect storm.

I'm not even sure what we're supposed to do. Many of us can't work. So we can't afford testing. Once we find "root cause" what do we do from there? I feel like a tiny percentage of people who have lpr actually get better. I literally eat a balanced diet and have only drank water for the last two years and I still have trouble breathing.
