  • A full in depth review of the Oath of Kärnan, an absolutely insane Gerstlauer hyper coaster located in Northern Germany. This ride is unlike any other I've ever seen, and simply put, is not talked about enough!

    I agree, Kärnan is stupidly intense and fast! I wouldn't say it's rough, one of the train has a bad vibration but the others are generally fine (not glass smooth though but I wouldn't expect it to be).

    You did a great job explaining how riding this coaster feels! I've done it for the first time a couple weeks ago and the whole thing just stuck with me. I think "insane" really is the best word to describe it. Our second ride was after it got dark out and the train actually has lights on it which are already on when you're inside the tower. Imagine being able to see while *the thing* happens! Also, the ride felt even more intense and fast in the dark. Definitely one of the greatest experience I've ever had on any ride.

    As a resident of Schleswig-Holstein I still need to process the fact that people from all over the world are now visiting Hansa-Park. Until they opened "Fluch von Novgorod" (Curse of Novgorod) back in 2009 the Park was widely considered a pure Family Park with the only more intense ride being Nessie the Schwarzkopf Looping Coaster.
    They still need a Wooden Coaster though... We're having too few of those in Germany.

    • @johanneskerkloh4340
      @johanneskerkloh4340 Před 5 lety

      That's funny. I've been to the park yesterday and this is excactly what i thought. Maybe GCI-Wodan-Style in a 'more' family friendly way (not as tall, as fast, etc.). They can't add just another thrill coaster that's as thrilling as Kärnan. The biggest group of visitors in the park are families with kids around 3-10. They need to add something that's for this group as well. As much as i would like them to go big with their next coaster, i don't believe in it. Question: Would a GCI Woodie be less durable at Hansa Park because of the salty sea air? I don't know!

    • @Exodon2020
      @Exodon2020 Před 5 lety

      @@johanneskerkloh4340 Depends on the Coating and the level of maintenance I guess. If they screw it up like the guys at Heide-Park the coaster would unlikely make it far past 10 years before a total overhaul would become necessary. Then again steel does also corrode easily in such a climate so the Park should already be used to tightened maintenance schedules

    This is the infinity coaster model that Gerstlauer came up with a few years ago, and it is literally the only infinity coaster from them that is to this scale. It's insane, and there is nothing like it. Sure, you have HangTime at Knotts' Berry Farm, which has that 96 degree drop and a unique layout, but really, I think this is the most unique and best infinity coaster Gerstlauer has created.

    The theming really seems to steal the show on the awesome ride, between the typical SFX and the unique architecture. Is the entire park like that? It seems pretty elaborate, maybe not Orlando-type stuff, but definitely around the level of something like Busch Gardens or Jungleland Express, formerly at Six Flags Great Adventure.

    • @Teecy_
      @Teecy_ Před 4 lety +1

      Late answer but anyways, yes, most of the park is like that. The theming on Kärnan is the second best in my opinion, but believe me the video only showed like 1/8 of the theming in it. it is insanely well executed. The best theming in the park imo is in Der Fluch von Novgorod, which was also build by Gerstlauer, it all just fits in perfectly. Nessie, which is a really old looping coaster recently got a new Station, Theme and Soundtrack so it also is really good. These are the three main coasters in the park, all perfectly themed. Other rides in the park are also well themed, but not as high level as these three, which is reasonable i think. Overall in my opinion Hansa Park's theming is right on top of what you'll find anywhere. Definetly worth a visit.

    Today I did Kärnan 8 times and I think the rows are not really randomized. At lane 1 and 2 (on the leftside in the room where the rows get chosen) there will always be a row which will be assigned with the front row. It's defenitely a front row ride and with all the theming, lifthill and what happenends inside it's for me one of the best rollercoaster I've ridden. Better than Taron for me :)

Your body wants to go straight into the sky and make you meet god meanwhile the Coaster forces you to the down right. I guess the main reasons why not so many people talk about it is because a) It isn´t in America, b) we don´t have nearly as many coaster enthusiasts that actually talk and make content on the Internet and c) because it is made by Gerstlauer. To me it feels like that many Enthusiasts just don´t see them as one of the companies they whant to see build a new coaster, at least not yet, I guess the mindset of many is "Oh, it´s just another Gerstlauer Infinity" without ever realizing how great the ride actualy is.

    Which was smoother, this or the smiler?

    • @CoasterStudios
      @CoasterStudios  Před 5 lety

      Josh Kirkham Smiler. But to be fair I only rode Smiler in the front row so i'm not sure if it's rougher in the back like I know it is for Kärnan.

    I am no expert in rollercoasters, but I think the reason gerstlauer didn't do anything like this in america is, that gerstlauer may 'only' contribute the manufacturing and exact track layout. The vertical lifthill inside the tower with a backward drop is stuff hansa-park has requested. And I think that also much if not all of the theming was initiated by hansa-park.

    even though karnan doesn’t look like the best coaster in europe (i think it might be #3 in europe) but if i went to europe and went to da same parks as u, der schwur des kärnan will be easily my most anticipated european coaster mostly becuz of the tower

    Hi Taylor, could you add metric values to the info above? Having to convert them distracts me too much of watching the video since this is a European review I can imagine many people watching this have this. Apart from that, good video as always

    Maybe the intention behind the photo being on the break session is “to capture the face of riders after all the ride”. Still a questionable choice though
