  • Schwur des Kärnan is the signature attraction at Hansa Park in Germany and it's one of the most bizarre roller coasters in the world. This Gerstlauer Infinity coaster is a hyper coaster with powerful airtime, intense laterals, great theming, and several surprise elements inside the tower. Find out why this is one of the best rides in the world in this review!

    I love when a park's creative team can combine excellent story, with excellent themeing, with an excellent coaster. Schwur des Kärnan looks exceptional, and I love how there's not another ride even remotely comparable to it.

    I'm so lucky to have Hansa Park as my home park. Kärnan is just amazing and I honestly can't believe that a small family owned park (it was once a Legoland btw) built this. Just the two Gerstlauers easily crush the nearby Heide Parks lineup. My personal favorite coaster and I even prefer it over Taron.

    • @CanobieCoaster

      @@clubstep8244 Exactly. Especially my first ride on Kärnan was out of this world, I wish I could experience the first one once more. I had no idea what this huge machine is doing while being in the tower for the first time.
      I guess I prefer Kärnan, even if this seems to be the less popular opinion. xD

    Best coaster I ever did! The indoor theming, the story they slip step by step in your mind with visuals and documentaries. Also we had some crew playing like we were workmen for them getting ready to work in the dark. This even gave another dimension to the experience. Leaving the station until the end of this coaster is pure insane.
    Well, maybe I have a little complaint about this coaster... Ever since I rode it it's harder to enjoy all other and new coasters as... it never gives the same experience. I will always compare with Karnan. After you felt what Karnan offers your body with insane forces... it's hard to find any better.
    If you have a chance to sit on the back row I can tell you that the ejector time in the top of the castle leaving in 90° vertical down is the most insane ever. I love to ride Exp Gforce on last row as it can give little blackout, last row on Karnan you don't even find the time for a blackout :-D.

    I finally got my ride on this absolute beast last year and I was (and still am) completely blown away. The theming is awesome. The vertical lift (my first one ever) is certainly odd, but just adds to the experience. The layout is frickin AMAZING. Yknow I thought the second part that is close to the ground always looked boring on video, but when you actually ride it, it's brutal, thanks to the speed. I am rarely intimidated by coasters but this one really made me nervous (and very excited haha) when I first saw that giant tower in front of me.
    Sadly I live at the other side of the country so I don't know when I'll get back :')

    I love this Coaster! HansaPark was my Home Park till 2020. I´ve mostly gotten more than 100 Rides per Season. And it never got boring. Just the Tower-Section is a little annoying after a few rides on a day.
    During the Halloween-Event at the Park. The Trains turn their lights on. It´s a great experience, seeing all the Indoor Sections with a little light.
    Very Nice Video! Enjoyed it! :)

    I was stunned by this attraction: The overall apperance is just impressing, the theming is great and even the "pre-show" which decides your seat is a unique feature I had never seen before. But the ride itself is not less great: it is very forceful, fast and the layout is extremely variable, so there is no dead spot. There is a rattle, but it didn't bother me, I thought it even fitted to this relentless thrill machine (it is DEFINETELY NOT a "Family thrill ride", how the park once called it) After the final break run, the final inversion and helix are quite slow, so they seem a little pointless. But the rest of this coaster is absolutely amazing, it's one of my favourites in Germany

I preferred Icon out of context, but know it's not as good as many Mack coasters. But when it comes to Gerstlauer: Unlike Icon is for Mack coasters, the Smiler is better than Gerstlauer's 6th best coaster. Having said that: It's not as good as Schwur des Karnan, which although I've never ridden I can tell is better than The Smiler.

      @@tobiashomann1077 Afaik it was rather the other way around, the Danes used it to control the narrow straight here, taxing ships that wanted to pass. A big point of contention between Denmark and the Hansa.
      Edit: Though I guess that in some way still fits what you wrote, to control Kärnan was a Hanseatic dream that never came to be, but now their descendants have their own ;)

    This is only my 3rd favorite coaster just behind Helix and Wildfire (Kolmården). I absolutly love this coaster but the reason I have the other 2 coasters above it is because they are longer rides and I just find kärnan a little to short for my liking. I'm also a bit mixed on the restraints, because I love how open you feel but after that first drop they really tighten quite a bit. But overall a top tier coaster!

    • @CanobieCoaster
      @CanobieCoaster  Před 3 lety

      I agree the restraints get tight, but they don't inhibit the airtime or hangtime for me since you're upper body is so free.

      The last airtime hill and final surprise can really hurt with the restraints if they came down during the ride

    Man pretty much every video I’ve seen on this ride does have the part when the king yells at you. I only found one decent video that at least kinda shows the ghost part but there isn’t audio, just the misty images. Seems like this ride isn’t maintained as much as it should be

    Spoiler
    How do they pull off the lift hill safely, because stuff like, ya know, going backwards on a lift hill, isn't supposed to be done. Definitely has to be a more elaborate system. Or maybe there is no safety system there (I believe there was a long stretch of straight track, so if the ride were to fail, it would just roll backwards onto straight track which can easily be equipped with systems to slow down a wayward train), and the safety systems to stop the train are before the lift hill... or is it even a lift hill at all?
    Not knowing anything about how the ride works, I operate under the assumption that the most likely way this works is with a "launched" lift hill, except that the "launch" is really slow and controlled quite well. Holding a train may or may not be difficult under these conditions, I'm not a physicist specialized in electromagnetism, but it would enable free flow of the car both forward and backward, and assuming that it is a "launch" there are certainly fine systems which exist which can control or mitigate an unplanned backwards movement under such circumstances.

    • @CanobieCoaster
      @CanobieCoaster  Před 3 lety

      The start of the lift has a really tight bend. I imagine the Gs would be through the roof if the train wasn't stopped. I don't know what Gerstlauer uses since it's all in the dark, but there has to be a failsafe.

    • @Hii250
      @Hii250 Před 3 lety +1

      The breaks are like droptower breaks so they are permanently on. If the chain were to snap, the train would just fall backwards into the breaks as it's supposed to do that anyway. Also because of that, after the train is slowed down it would then slowly roll back all the way to the bottom of the lift and level out which makes it easier to evacuate.

    Btw, the correct pronounciation would be like saying "shoe" but with a "w" after the sh and an "a" pronounced like the "u" from "unfortunate" for "Schwur". The "des" is on point and for "Kärnan", you can just say "care-none".
    So it's "sh(w)oe(a) des care-none"

    I think this coaster is a little overrated. Yes the tower, the heart element and the overbanked turn are pure madness, but the rest is pretty bland, except the airtime hill maybe...
    Nevertheless, it still sits in my top 5, but i have the feeling it will drop after i ride it again.
