  • Drop towers are one of my favorite amusement rides. I love the anticipation of the launch or drop down the tower. And it's even better when they're well-themed. In this video, I count down the 25 best drop towers I have personally ridden.

Surprisingly two of my favorite drop
Towers include ones that just top 100 feet. Shore Shot at casino pier has a fantastic view of the surrounding beach and ocean with some insane pops of ejector airtime, and same thing goes for double shot at Castaway Cove. I’m also a huge fan of the drop tower at Knoebels, that drop has to be the most insane drop in terms of airtime, but Zumanjaro takes the cake for craziest drop simply for the length

    • @CanobieCoaster

Nice list! I have some towers to ride. I agree that Zumanjaro is more about the anticipation with a weaker drop. I was surprised to enjoy Acrophobia with its unique seats and tilt, both new for me at the time. I was very surprised how forceful the ejector air was on Liberty Launch at Holiday World, slightly painful for my shoulders and large frame. A much more enjoyable shot ride is Power Tower at CP.

The slow ascents are probably what freaks me out most with drop towers, Highlander looks simultaneously amazing and horrifying lol. Was pleasantly surprised to see Guardians at #1; I do prefer Orlando's ToT for its variety, but Guardians is like a party in a malfunctioning elevator. While not the most intense rides, I really enjoy S&S combo towers as well due to the longer ride times.

Did you go on the one at Gardaland? It's a very tiny intamin single car tower, but it packs a lot of punch, even more so than the taller versions from intamin or the highfall-model. Other than that the Fabbri towers are not very tall, but super intense. I think I heard that that there the gondola is being shot down with some sort of mechanism.

I love Lex Luthor Drop of Doom, Guardians of the Galaxy/Twilight Zone Tower of Terror and the Big Shot. Another I have loved are the first generation Intamin free fall towers. I have been on the one that used to be at Six Flags Magic Mountain several times, and Demon Drop once when it was at Cedar Point. Those ones drop like a dead weight. They feel sketchy too, because you suddenly come to a screeching halt before flying off the end of the horizontal track. Another drop ride you need to check out if you haven’t is Haunted Mine Drop at Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park in Glenwood Springs, Colorado. This is the world’s only underground drop ride which actually starts at the top. It drops you 110 feet down the mine shaft which is pitch black. The brakes kick in about halfway down, but the darkness and wind and sound effects give the illusion of speed even when slowing down.

@CanobieCoaster Thank You 1 year Later, for the Video, and LEX LUTHOR was Awesome.
I felt as if the 8 seat gondola wasn't even attatched to the Track while dropping. It's very well themed, and the views are tremendous no matter which side of the Tower you so choose. For the Best thrill, I like the End seats on either side. Most especially the End seats by the yellow Superman tracks Looking straight at the Red Observation Tower which your eye to eye with. Although, the Outside seat facing East, on the side of Superman gives the best view of most of the Park.
The Adrenaline rush was Insane, and Lotts of Drop Time. You feel like your Falling at least 32-33 stories before you Totally Stop, only leaving 7 or 6 stories left of slowing down which isn't bad at all.
Great Drop Tower. Great Video. Thank You. 😎🌴👍

When it comes to thrill rides, drop towers are the only rides I don't always have the courage to ride. But of all the ones I have ridden, some of my favorites include The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror at Disney's Hollywood Studios and the former one at Disney's California Adventure as well as Lex Luthor: Drop of Doom at Six Flags Magic Mountain. 75 mph just doesn't seem very fast for a Drop Tower.
That in mind, does the Tilting feature on other Drop Towers, is the reason they can't Drop at 85-90 mph because of gravity and the breaking systems in place❓️

    1. Highlander, Hansa Park
    2. Falcon’s Fury, Busch Gardens Tampa
    3. Drop Line, Dollywood
    4. Tower of Terror, Disney’s Hollywood Studios
    5. Drop Tower, Kings Dominion
    6. S&S Double Shots, rode one at Indiana Beach
    7. Drop Tower, Kings Island
    8. Some obscure drop tower owned by Belle City Amusements, possibly ARM?
    9. Larson/ARM Drop Towers
    10. Slingshot, Adventuredome
    11. Drop Tower, Canada’s Wonderland
    12. Drop Tower, Carowinds
    13. Mach Tower, Busch Gardens Williamsburg
    14. Doctor Doom Fearfall, Islands of Adventure
    15. Kid drop towers
    16. Acrophobia, Six Flags Over Georgia

After the first couple of years they simply gave up and they haven't done anything new with it, all the good (few) rides there opened with the park.
