I remember my mom saying there was a group of Conservative Christian pediatricians saying not to let children watch Doodlebops because it would make them grow up to be gay. My brother's children also were not allowed to watch Yo Gaga Gaba because DJ Lance was perceived as as gay to them. I don't think they understood the concept of an adult portraying a character meant to be a child.

Fun Fact: The Doodlebops were the first concert I ever went to. They were super excited, super interactive and at one point they even came into the audience to meet kids.

as someone who works in kids’ TV i have an explanation for characters disappearing without notice!! back in the day, these shows would air daily for years and years. if an actor left after one season, they wouldn’t explain their absence because a young viewer might be watching the previous season the next day and be confused. they were designed to be shuffled interchangeably forever! we see less of this now thanks to streaming. :)

I believe the reason I started avoiding the show was because I had a nightmare that Moe did his classic "I'm gonna pull the rope" and when the water came down, his head popped off, exposing wires and had sparks flying... Pretty traumatizing considering Moe was my favorite member. Have a good day

Fun fact: as a kid, I was convinced that the Doodlebops were just Zac Efron, Ashley Tisdale, and Corbin Bleu doing another Disney Channel show and that all the adults around me were pretending it wasn’t them so it would “ruin the magic.” An absolutely bonkers concept, but hey, I was six and only got cable on vacation 😂

This is such a tremendous deep dive but also the Doodlebops scared the shit out of me as a kid so I'm finally getting a glimpse into the show that I never watched because I'd hide behind the couch whenever it came on.
Omg this was my exact experience! They scared me so much too. I thought I was the only one.
I did the same thing with toodles from Mickey Mouse Clubhouse TOODLES I HID BEHIND A WALL IN THE HALLWAY BETWEEN THE LIVING ROOM AND KITCHEN BECAUSE OF TOODLES (I was 4 but still and I was even more scared when they gave them a face)

Tbh when it comes to Moe a lot of people mention him being somewhat charming or charismatic and that’s why he’s a popular childhood crush but I dare to say that I think Moe gives off impeccable himbo energy. He can’t hide for shit, but still tries and thinks he’s doing well. When discussing his favorite color orange, as referenced in this video, he can only think of one orange thing and it’s not even the fruit. He’s been seen more often as upbeat and outgoing in otherwise negative or uncomfortable situations, but I think it’s less about rebellion as it is about him just being a dumbass. Less “not like other guys” energy, more “poor little meow meow” vibes, personally.

If you like photo puppetry a lot, then you should do a lore on the Disney show Fish Hooks! They use photo puppetry A LOT and it’s honestly imo the second best usage of it I’ve seen since Wonder Pets. Plus, the show is incredibly funny and has a ton of great characters.
I was 19 in college excited to start my day with an episode of the doodlebops before I left for classes. I’d be mad if I woke up and their show wasn’t on Disney. Then there were days where I wouldn’t have any classes and I’d get to watch the doodlebop marathons. I never understood the timeline of the show, but it was still fun to watch. “Get on the bus” was my favorite song.

I remember watching Doodlebops with my niece (along with a lot of children’s shows) and becoming so used to the songs, I ended up burning a CD with the songs and secretly listening to them 😂 made me want to pursue becoming a children’s book illustrator, I adored kids media so much!
There was a period when i worked over 55 hours a week at my local mall. The smoothie stand i worked at was parked right underneath an overhead TV (which dotted the mall and would play things on a loop). A portion of the doodlebops theme song would play at least 30 times a day. I was only 18, fresh out of high school, and already i felt like a crotchety old man, annoyed by the changing world around me.

I fell down that rabbit hole of a show too. It was so fun and silly. But of course it was a 60s show, so a good amount of stuff in that are pretty dated(and possibly a little offensive) but nothing too bad as most of the enviable race jokes in them are mostly about how other races think white American and British people are silly.(which valid)

This and the Raggs were my favorite shows in this genre, something about these shows with their fun and colorful characters always captivated me.
And if you watched Raggs most definitely you were destined to become a furry.
I remember one of my friends in school had a huge crush on Moe, so much so that she made a whole Instagram page dedicated to him, I didn't think it weird until she started posting poor edits of herself doing the "nasty" with him from poor quality screenshots.
But besides that I always loved Rooney, dude was the most sensible one out of the three most of the time and honestly he's what helped shape my sarcasm.
DeeDee was also a favorite because of her love for singing, dancing and pink, and because she was the only girl besides the lady that loved to rhyme.
I still remember the episode where the lady that was obsessed with rhyming (watch out Eminem) suddenly couldn't because she couldn't think of anything that rhymes with Orange, the word messed her up so much she kept messing up everything until the Doodles suggested she make up words to rhyme with to help her get back to being herself again.

I wasn't allowed to watch Doodlebops when I was a kid because my parents hated it, but I would sneak-watch it in hotels and stuff. I simped HARD for Rooney in those days and...yeah, he's cute for a weird kids show character.
Im not even joking, I had a nightmare about the doodlebops years after i stopped watching. Rooni tried to kidnap my mom and turn her into a doodlebop. Didi was helping me try to stop him from turning my mom blue. I dont fully remember what Mo was up to, like some moments he was trying to help capture my mom, and other times he was helping us escape... I was forever scarred. I remember the bus song but no memory of the vus or the driver

The episode where Moe gets into everyone’s space is the first time we see Bus Driver Bob get genuinely mad. No joke, watch the episode and the dialogue during the Bus scene is so realistic none of it is sugarcoated, this is how Bus Drivers would act if someone did that in real life.
I watched this so much as a little kid and the ONLY THING I ever remembered of it when I got older was the "Where's Mo?" bit. I could never remember what the show was called or who the other 2 were for years, but the damn Mo bit was permanently burned into the core of my brain

I just had Doodlebops pop back into my head like last month during a conversation with my GF (Can't recall exactly what we were discussing, but I think it was just old kids shows) and lo & behold, a new Athena Lore video to prove I did not in fact hallucinate this whole show!

as a kid i got called a Doodlebop when i dressed up as the kid from Lazy Town for Halloween. i remember i was really mad, and also pissed because the doodlebop is FULL pink
I don’t remember watching this show as a kid but for some reason the chicken using colored eggs to communicate just dug into a nerve in my brain, like I have no memory of anything else but that one scene is burned into my memory

This video really brought back some childhood memories for me. I remember the Doodlebops being one of my favorites when I was little, and I'm not sure why but this show kinda has similar energy to another kids show from 90s called Adventures in Wonderland.
If you're familiar with that, it'd be kinda interesting to see you cover that show in one of these videos somewhere down the road; that show was like a fucking fever dream.

I haven't heard or seen anything about the Doodlebops for over a decade now. I had mostly forgotten about them. But I stumbled upon your video, saw the Thumbnail, thought "Who the Hell are-", and had just a WAVE of forgotten childhood memories wash over me. It was such a kick to the jaw that it immediately got me to subscribe. Nice job
Same! I forgot about this show. I didn’t watch it all the time as a kid, but I knew about it and watched a few episodes but it wasn’t a favorite of mine. I found it kinda weird as a kid lol
I was 14 when I first watched it in 2010. Because nothing good was on YTV, I decided to watch other channels.
i pulled out my tooth watching the Doodlebops. its a core memory of mine. the theme song will never leave my head. Moe was my fave, though orange was also my fave colour.
I actually used to watch this IN MY 30s! when i got bored out of my mind.. They were a little mind numbing but in a way that was desperately needed. if that makes any sense..?? But now i’m wondering, have you ever heard of “the Bugaloos” from Sid & Marty Kroft in the 70s? (back when i was a child) the same group that brought us “H. R. Puffenstuff”) This is what the Doodlebops more or less reminded of… instead they were 4 of them 3 guys one girl with insect wings and antennas. And they were a band… sort of, although the girl was talented and attractive…
All in all, what i’m trying to say is everytime i watched the Doodlebops, i was having flashbacks to the Bugaloos. it was a bit scary… 🤪
Hey Athena, if I were to suggest 2 shows to cover, I recommend The Electric Company (reboot) and Cyberchase, those shows were part of my childhood.
