That had to be the luckiest counterbalance I have ever seen.
Funny, when I saw it cast my first thought was "well, yet another counterbalance that is going to whiff over and over"
As a late 90s early 2000s magic player, I was incredibly excited to see Yawgmoth's Will do Yawgmoth's Will things. I don't get to see it come up often in cEDH channels and I was happy to see how much it powered that final turn and remind me of the days in which it was one of the most powerful spells in the game.
it still is super powerful, sadly the exile clause and it costing 1 more mana and not being a permanent all basically make it worse in general than underworld breach, plus the fact that its like 100x cheaper and thats why its played so often more.
@@fleb714 I still feel a bit like they each offer something slightly different. They both require exile in some way, but while breach has more upside as a combo enabler, Will has more upside as value generator and requires less setup to be effective. But I agree that means it occupies a smaller and perhaps less necessary slot.
counterbalance is the mvp for this most likely
Your insight dreads me.
For real though - I don't think I've ever seen a Counterbalance put in that much work
I have Mike's playmat, the story behind it is my favorite piece of magic event lore
A slow start followed by an exciting game of Magic followed by a VERY exciting game of Solitaire. Great video!
While I love other cedh content creators, yours are probably the best in terms or presentation, video quality and strategy analysis.
Ayy, as a vega player, its great to see someone representing the bird.
Vega is such a cool commander. I love Kaldheim legendary creatures.
OttoVontrapp says this is in the top ten from the PWP gang for interaction.
Come to think of it, so many cards in Cedh are 0 mana, so turning lands into counter spells is so good.
Yes Kykar again. Such a rarely seen strong commander.
Ohhhhh hot dang, another cEDH vid to bless this Monday. Have a great day everyone!
speed
4:53 to my knowledge clones will copy the base card, Elking his dockside does not help prevent cloning
It copies whatever the card on board is, so elking does help
@@bustedheadphones 706.2. When copying an object, the copy acquires the copiable values of the original objectâs characteristics and, for an object on the stack, choices made when casting or activating it (mode, targets, the value of X, whether it was kicked, how it will affect multiple targets, and so on). The âcopiable valuesâ are the values derived from the text printed on the object (that text being name, mana cost, color indicator, card type, subtype, supertype, rules text, power, toughness, and/or loyalty), as modified by other copy effects, by its face-down status, and by âas . . . enters the battlefieldâ and âas . . . is turned face upâ abilities that set power and toughness (and may also set additional characteristics). Other effects (including type-changing and text-changing effects), status, and counters are not copied.
@@krotash7740 Hmmm I never knew that, thank you for correcting me. Definitely helps with my Krark/Sakashima deck
Mike keeping that hand on the back of a ponder! Love it!
That might be the most use I've ever seen a Counterbalance get in all my years... holy shit
I can't say for sure, but that Vega list looks a lot like the Definitely Not Derevi list that was featured for a short time on the cEDH DDB Brewer's Corner with a few (2) minor changes, namely the Labman effects for a faster end. It's a pleasure to see Vega finally get some attention as a cEDH Azorious Commander that has an outlet in the command zone for something as compact as IsoRev. Thanks for featuring the list, Zack!
Cant believe you guys dont have more subs! Love the content!
Appreciate it!
Archmage Emeritus deserves more love, great card
I absolutely loved this game, it was the first in a while where I was actually yelling at my screen and cheering when certain plays happened.
The C in cedh stands for counterbalance
The entire game was held in check by Mindcensor, with Counterbalance being a flashy (and effective) distraction.
Loved the plays areound the Coliseum!
That was some ending!! Very nice. And wow counterbalance was nasty this game!
While Mike's line was glorious, was it possible for him to just cast Thoracle, and Pact to 3 cards in library? With Counterbalance out, he'd have at least 4 devotion, meaning he still wins off the trigger.
Honestly though dockside creating aver 30 mana on the last turn was also a very MVC moment. Such a busted card.
That was so convoluted and awesome..... I love watching these games
Crim from the commander clash would love that counterbalance play
Absoposilutly
Mike has the meme mat! Real recognize real
I appreciate Reo already with that Flamedramon mat. Cheers.
@16:00 Mike casts an imperial seal just then ponder AND SHUFFLES IT AWAY???
Gotta get that storm count up đ„Ž
Nice! I hope to see Tatyova in the mix again soon!
I want to play MtG...
Counterbalance: "HOW ABOUT NO!?"
16:00 did Mike just tutor a card to the top with seal and then shuffle it away with ponder? Or did the narrator perhaps mean to saw draws instead of shuffles.
Mike was amazing in there I loved it!
Missed multiple Kraum triggers at 13:20 end step
That counterbalance the counterbalance was epic
Yawgmoths will and mnemonic betrayal were 2nd and 3rd MVPs
question for REO: why do you mill yourself? thanks!
Holy shit what a game!
Mike played out of his God damn mind!!!
All you need is deflecting swat to deal with coliseum
Why did you never play the counter balance trigger on the Sol Ring in the beginning?
Amazing game!
I have never seen so many win conditions in one turn all at once... amazing performance
Best comeback ever!
Where is Mike's playmat from..? I want one...
finally some Vega recognition!
Omg I love Mikes playmat
At 12:40 is the Dockside cast not illegal or am I missing something?
this is probably a bad suggestion, but I've found false dawn really useful in kykar, helps fix all your mana for the turn including those you get from spirits and rituals
Celestial dawn also works as a more permanent solution.
How did mark get those cards in old boarders
why does the revealed card on top of Zacks library go back face down instead of staying revealed?
Wow what a game is right!
I really thought Marc was gonna come back there for a second. Also, Counterbalance is super rude. Lmao
The counterbalance still triggered from the bottom of the stack even tho it was destroyed from the blast at the top of the stack?
Correct. The ability is agnostic of the permanent it derived.
Still watching but turn 11 for Marc so good lol
I miss the storm counter, I love seeing how big it gets
Is that a competitive persistent Petitioners deck?
Nice kykar
Love me some hot arbiter action ( :
It's so great only ever seeing thassa wins, plz diversify. There are plenty of other fast ways to win.
Marc mulling away the second land and keeping Lotus Petal instead is so greedy
11:35 where does Marc get the white mana to cast kykar?
I think you are right. I think they made an error.
He has a Plateau
@@marvel_imagine1713 maybe a miss say on the lands the used bc it said Shivan reef and fiery islet which are both red blue lands
This had been a trend for some time now. In the commentary you usually hear the player only taps one or couple of lands to cast a spell even if they tap more like in this case. There was a Plateau on the table.
edit. I mean no offense but it is also a mystery to me that you are asking about the white mana especially because Plateau was the only land Marc had on the table for some time at the beginning.
Should be the Plateau from his starting hand
If you guys know. Grolnok player, I would love to see him on your channel
Fuck yeh counterbalance!!! Spicy game
What was the point of Marc countering to let cyclonic rift resolve?
He was super behind, so slowing down the two other players was in his benefit. He was also behind on lands and drawing into a fetch with mindsensor would have been tragic xD
he didnt really have anything on board
Most effective counter balance i have EVER seen, bahahaha.
Also how long until Dockside gets banned from Commander?
To play around cephalid coliseum, wouldn't it have been easier for Mike to make sure he has 3 devotion (oko + oracle) and go down to 3 cards with the tainted pact?
That would require knowing the 3rd most bottom card to name with Pact also.
@@ggpt9641 That would be true with Demonic Consultation, but not with Tainted Pact. You just exile cards until you choose to stop and keep the last one (or hit a duplicate).
Completely honest? That win felt bad.
You had Yawgmoth's Will, Bolas' Citadel, a wild storm count... and it was just to get a thoracle win.
It's just an amazing set-up for a stale pay-off.
What did Marc do to piss off the table?
This game was hilarious
6:26 what about Counterbalance for Sol Ring?
Counterbalance is a may, so Zack chose to not trigger it, I believe.
Me when kykar rep happens đđđđ
Wow this was a game ..if u going to mill in my opinion go full mill? Gg everyone see u next time
Not that he couldn't vapor linvala, but doesn't she stop all treasure activation/artifact stuff?
Linvala only turns off activated abilities of creatures
Only 7 counterbalance counters? I thought there was more
An epic game reduced to another thoracle win...
I think I speak for everyone when I say: WTF Mike
4:54 this wouldn't work. Clones entering as a copy of "elkside" would enter as non elked docksides
considering it makes it a 3/3 elk i think it works
@@codydalton7728 Nope. Effects that change a creature into something else have to specifically say become a copy, otherwise their copyable values (707.2) are unchanged.
If he had used, say True polymorph, it would have prevented anyone from copying dockside.
@@weegeelinguini3704 I thought I was going crazy because I thought the same thing. It's like how you can use Imprisoned in the Moon on, say, a planeswalker, then use Vesuva to copy the Moon'd walker, and what you end up with is the walker.
@@zotmaster correct
I like my flavor disks
Can thassa's oracle just be banned already?!
reo's cephalic coliseum looking thassa oracle winning without doing nothing....oke
elking dockside doesn't prevent it from being cloned
Yeah but who wants a 3/3 elk with no abilities
Oko makes it so the "dockside extortionist" object is no longer a Goblin Pirate with an ETB. Clones would enter as 3/3 elks named Dockside Extortionist.
@@RoastedPheasant That's not true. Clones apply in layer 1 and thus look at the base characteristics of an object, which doesn't include oko's effect.
Many people out here not knowing that Elking Dockside doesn't stop clone shenanigans. *Laughs in 706.2. *
Iâm not a judge, just a guy that loves to abuse dockside -Mike
@@PlayingWithPowerMTG Got em
Seriously, is there any hope left for in person cedh videos?
Yes! We have some coming in the near future!
Awesome
Kind of weird that Marc played that Mana Crypt. I guess Zack didn't trigger his counterbalance when Kraum was casted?
More pauper cedh đđ
There was no need to play around coliseum, since his devotion was above 3, thus he could left 3+ in his library with tainted pact and than win
Very true. Tbf, this game ended around midnight and we were all tired
Oko-ing the Dockside won't prevent it from being cloned. Clones can still enter the battlefield as a proper Dockside.
it's never just a value tainted pact... never
This comment has been countered by counterbalance
Um⊠Oko canât take Emeritus.
UmâŠyes it can đ€
@@PlayingWithPowerMTG Oh its power. I thought it was CMC
Milling your opponents with Brain Freeze only to then win with Thassa's Oracle is just rude.
Just playing around angels grace!
Tired of Thoracle đ
Wtf i didnt follow any of that game
