PWP: the most powerful cards in the most powerful formats
Also PWP: persistent petitioner
I mean, he did win tho
@@GabetheFrog_ the strongest deck seems to rarely win in this format as it's usually hated out pretty quickly
Bro I know. I was like, "wut"
Yeah.. because every real cEDH game plays basic bitch mana ramp spells. đ€Ł
Hey everybody, this is Reo the Grand Arbiter player. I love this deck and it was great to finally showcase it. I just wanted to mention and clarify a few things.
Spoilers by the way.
The reason Zack did not cast overloaded Cyclonic Rift is he didn't have enough mana when Grand Arbiter was out, also couldn't get blast zone to two counters while also tapping it for the effect before being milled out.
I made this deck to show people a gimmicky deck like this can still be played at a cEDH table, and still have fun interactions while competing with the rest of the table.
Hope you all enjoyed this, as I love showing this deck.
YOUR DECK IS AWESOME! Modern Mill player here hahah XD
Nice deck! I liked your prinny custom island
next time use the stars (*) around the text to make it *bold for better spoiler warning*
Goat status
Congrats man, that was spectacular! I thought that you wouldn't have a chance haha, shouldn't have doubted! Made my day seeing that cedh doesn't have to be all top tier optimized decks, niche strategies can win too
Mental Misstepping a Sakura Tribe Scout only for your next opponent to play a Mystic Remora has got to feel pretty bad.
I know right
Good game! Didn't expect that ending.
đ€Łđđ€Łđ€Łđ€Ł yeah right. Dude canât have any friends playing that đ .
i love seeing these games pop up in my youtube feed. great way to start the day
Great video! Always happy to see you pop up in my notifications ^^
Doesn't counter Vampiric Tutor
counters Sakura
2 Remoras enter the battlefield after that...
yeah great Misstep there my man hahahah
loved the ending. unluckily having the Nexus in hand I guess.
love you guys â€
yep, super punished for that ahaha. I don't think that Tatyova list has Nexus, or he could have cast it the turn before (or at instant speed before drawing)
@@marcellopozzessere1656 you're right!
but in the decklists they posted Nexus is there... oh well đ€·ââïž
edit: yep, it's was not in the deck
I guess I clicked the moxfield list instead of checking the other one haha
Having Mental Misstep in the beginning means that you can deny your opponents to ramp, often cast to counter Sol Ring or Mana Vault for example. Casting it to counter a creature that makes a land deck put more lands into play, ramping and also trigger his Commander makes sense. You almost never counter a tutor, you counter the piece they fetch, so the only time you counter a tutor is if you just have that situational based counter for just that cost or card type and the person is going of.
You know the game will be quite something when a guy just casually accepts a hand with no lands.
Commenting before watching to help feed the algorithm. â€ïž
Thank you for enlarging Derevi, I now know that she does NOT HAVE A BEAK!!

what a game, love your decks keep it up!!!

Reo just made Mill viable in cedh, so awesome!! Love this channel so much. Always great gameplay heređđŒđ

Always love it when the jank deck takes it!
i just checked the decklists, how did Zack lose with a nexus of Fate in deck, or did i miss sth?
Maybe he drew it at the end with water logged grove
@@apocalypticoreos6460 even then it is still an instant and he can cast it on upkeep ^^
But it woudnt do anything
@@OChecker If he drew of grove he couldn't as he wouldn't have had enough mana wih grand arbiter out. He missplayed by drawing with grove if he didn't have it in hand or not playing it if he did have it in hand (which I doubt) .
@@DerpyLaron ah okay, I forgot to add the arbiter Mana ^^
Nice! Watching now!
Mill win is always the best win! Nice win Reo
Here for yidris and derevi, as I'm working hard to get mine solid! Thank you!
Oddly not how my derevi plays, and yidris with some control was super useful, just not enough. .
God, that ending! So epic
Reo I love your deck! So clever.
I have a Grand Arbiter petitioners deck and it is almost completely different which is awesome
Good job
It seems like you always have a fun way of choosing who goes first, PLEASE include it on camera I think it would add a nice touch đŒ
Great game!
Hello PWP! I was wondering if Ranar, the new UW commander with Foretell, could be a contender for cEDH. It's the first deck I've purchased to get into commander, and I can't wait to open it!
This game really shows that you can jank 'em out even in cEDH.
That makes me think though; Have you guys thought about doing a more casual session? Like, commanders and cards/combos that don't really work at cEDH tables and stuff.
Blast Zone was just sitting there ready to answer the Petitioners.
saw the thumbnail, and ran for the play button
Correct me if Iâm wrong so you can active reconnaissance ability after dmg calculation ?
Yes you can.
Ryan should have definitely tutored for Timetwister/Windfall turn 1.
Wonderful game!
Can i just ask, what is that background music sample? It's so epic, it just makes the games feel so powerful!
Im very simple man, I see Grand Arbiter I click.
Same for me only for Yidris
Same for me only Tatyova!!
Same for me only for Derevi!
Korvold
Could you include each player's hand count throughout the game? It's nice to know how many options players have.
I love your channel.
A mill win? Ok...now this is pod racing!
Around 9:50 Reo shoul probably have tapped 4 of his advisors to mill Zack after the resolution of mistyc sanctuary but before the resolution of Tatyova's triggered ability. This way he probably would have saved the remora
Did you all know what the deck was before the game started?
WHAT A GAME!
Wow the mill deck pulled it off.
Mill decks are like Miller Lites
You enjoy it and/or love them if they're there and say you hate it when they're not
Would love to see an Oops All Colorless! Commander game. Everyone choose a Colorless commander and builds off of that

Bringing a persistent petitioner deck to a PWP game where most decks have a self-mill win strategy built in seems really bold :D.
Nice game! Do you have a plans to continue budget cEDH series?
Yes we do! The next one is in the works, so stay tuned!
@@PlayingWithPowerMTG Thanks, im already almost complete yuriko and godo from last episode))
Class game
How about Blast Zone-ing the Petitioners?! o.O
I was thinking this. Zack could have added a counter the turn he played it then activated the turn before he got milled out.
I think it boils down to miscalculation. They had been playing a very interaction heavy game for 2 hours and Zack might just have forgotten to take GAAIV additional cost into account when he planned his future turn. Its not uncommon to start missing triggers and stax effects when you have been playing for a long time. Or he had some kind of information that we didnt have and decided to play in another manner, perhaps Reo said that he had disallow in the deck to counter the blast zone effect and Zack tried for another angle. Or perhaps it was just a misplay. Impossible to tell without more information.
@ 8:16 how come Adam attacks with Spirit of the Labyrinth then uses Reconnaissance at the end of combat to untap it? Isn't Reconnaissance supposed to work on declaration before damage?
No, it's legal. Look up the rulings on the card. Very strong.
Spicy sauce!
Correct me if im wrong but didn't Zack have life form the loam in his graveyard which means he could've replaced his draw?
Part of the dredge is to put exactly three cards from your library into your graveyard. If you can't, you draw.
@@PlayingWithPowerMTG Ah I see TY
@@KiddOracle Yeah, but he had Nexus of Fate. His opponent gave him infinite turns by milling him out and he.... just didn't take it. Totally threw the game or a massive misplay on his part. Oh well. Shit happens, I guess. Reshuffling Nexus is like the whole point of that card tho.
at the end zack had enough for cyclonic rift overloaded, and enough deck left to spare had reo responded by milling him so why didnt zack board wipe?
GAAIV is increasing the cost of all opponent spells.
Zack needed 8 mana, he only had 7
@@ChanceDeath but casting it for its overload cost is an alternate cost, i thought grand arbiter only looked at the primary cost of the spell
@@RedShade1992 no. The card says "spells cost 1 more" so when you cast a spell it costs one more. No matter what. Even FOW costs 1 mana even if you pitch
So could Reo run Reconnaissance in his Petitioner deck? Or am I missing something?
Sure it has white color identity. It doesn't combo for infinite mill or anything though as it removes the target *attacking* creature from combat.
Did you guys take it easy on the GA mill deck? It kind of feels like not much attention was paid to him until it was too late.
The table didnât take it seriously. And they paid for it in the end...
The blunder on not using blast zone ooooooof
Did you guys change the music on my account? If you did thatâs so kind of you. This channel is my favorite for EDH content and fuels our play group for pushing decks to absolute 11 when we can
We always take all feedback into consideration. If it was annoying you, there is a good chance it was annoying others who didn't comment.
I am livid! Back around 2 years ago, when I got into Magic, and through playing Commander, my second deck I built was a deck around Grand Arbiter himself using Persistent Petitioners to mill my opponents. I built a cheaper, admittedly less interactive, version of this deck 2 years ago. I took it apart after a little while because people I played with understandably hated Grand Arbiter, but I kept all of the cards from that deck, including the 35 Petitioners, and have since built a Bruvac, the Grandiloquent deck with them instead. Love to see the Petitioners closing out a game like that! GG guys!
i cant imagine getting remora over a wheel off of the initial vamp tutor and i dont understand why you would pick up cyclonic rift and not cast it
Watching a cEDH game of someone wining with a mill Petitioners strategy while playing 0 ramp for the entire game was a pure delight.
i underestimated the petitioners...
Alguém pode me explicar quais são as condiçÔes de vitória da tatyova?
probably some land synergy with field of the dead or some combos
"Adam wins the world figure skating world championship, and gets to start us off"
wait what?
You could say that was a persistent win.
What was the point of getting cyclonic rift if you weren't going to use it?
Dunno, maybe he miscalculated the cost of Cyclonic?
GAAIV made it cost 1 more so he couldn't overload it.
@@PlayingWithPowerMTG Why didn't he charge and use his blast zone to kill all the petitioners?
@6:43 how can the spirit deal damage and be untapped with reconnaissance? It strictly says, that the creature doesnÂŽt deal damage
Reconnaissance was created before the sixth edition rules changes, and when the combat phase was established. The card was errata'd to reflect this. You can activate Reconnaissance at the "end of combat" step to untap it and remove it from combat. That will not retroactively remove it's combat damage, because it has already been dealt in the previous combat step (combat damage step). I hope this makes sense! Thanks for the question!
You activate reconnaissance after damage is dealt but before ending the combat phase. It's complex but it works like that
He untapped it in the End of Combat step, the Spirit has already dealt its damage and is untapped after that
you get priority before the combat damage step ends
the creature is still attacking, and it already dealt damage
thats when it gets untapped
@@PlayingWithPowerMTG Makes sense in a weird way ;)
Just a simple question:
Why 'tatyov, benthic druid' over 'aesi, tyrant of gyre strait' as a commander?
cuz tatiyova is one less mana
Tatyova costs 1 less mana to cast and gains life which is more important than you would expect. The additional land drop isnât worth the extra mana with all of the options available already.
I for myself love playing tatyova. i dont know Zacks reasons, but mine are: the extra landdrop doesnt matter too much on the card and 6 mana is so much harder to turbo out than 5. jeweled lotus plus 2 lands is tatyova turn 2 but not aesi
She costs one less mana and, considering how much life people end up paying in cEDH, the lifegain turns out to be more relevant than it looks.
Thanks for all the reactions, i play windgrace myself and am aware of the 1 cmc difference. But thanks for the explanation of the extra landdrop not mattering and the explanation for the lifegain.
Reconaissance untaps creatures that allready dealt damage? Iâm probably dumb, but can someone explain?đ
Yes, because they are still considered attacking until the second main phase.
Didnt zack have enough mana to overload rift after returning it? Wondering why he didn't cast it
it costs 8 from GAAIV
I don't understand. At 13:47, Zach plays a blast zone. Why didn't he charge the blast zone and destroy all the petitioners instead of just losing the match?
So I glad I got my Oboro for $18 lol it's around $75 ish now
8:04 Misplay:
Counterbalance has already revealed a pyroblast on top of Ryan's library. Using Derevi's CZ ability only costs an extra mana for no reason. Originally I thought it was to circumvent Remora, but that only triggers on non-creature spells.
It costs 1 extra mana because of GA on the field so it wouldn't have mattered how it was brought to the field that turn
@@Godfather090807 Lmao this is true.
Did I miss something where Zack didn't have enough mana to cast that Overloaded Cyclinic Rift w/ Biseju (uncounterable) to put all those Petitioners and GAAIV back into Reo's hand?
Yes, because Grand Arbiter was out, making it cost 1 more.
i know this is 3 years old, but now you could even add Thassas Oracle
11:40 Why wasn't Ryan able to block?
He was, but it was lethal anyway, so he just accepted his fate.
I'd love to play you all.
Tatyova's Deck list had a Nexus of Fate in it....did they miss it when they were getting milled?
The wrong deck list was posted, we will update it.
Is Adam Evil Adam from MTG mudstah? His deck look familiar
It's not him, but every playgroup has their proverbial "Adam"
it made me smile when I saw an other "Adam" playing Derevi. I was hoping to see more of his deck in action though.
Didn't zack have cyclonic rift in his hand?????
Grand Arbiter Made it cost 1 more and he only had 7 mana open. So he coudldn't cast it.
Seems like Zack should have made sure he could dredge instead of draw. He had the Life from the Loam still, right?
You have to have cards in your library to dredge.
Why not cast cyclonic rift towards the end of the game ?
GAAIV made it cost 8, which he couldn't cast.
@@PlayingWithPowerMTG Fair enough . I figured he wouldâve had enough with simic growth chamber and another forest to cast eternal witness .
Around 12:10, when Zack casts Scapeshift, Field of the Dead should not have created 5 Zombies. By my count, Field of the Dead should have only made 2 Zombies because it only triggers at 7 or more lands with different names.
Am I missing something here? Or should Zack have had 3 fewer Zombies?
I thought this too; what happened?
Field triggers on any land entering if the condition is met. All the lands from Scapeshift enter at the same time, so the condition is met and they all trigger it.
If multiple lands enter the battlefield simultaneously, possibly including Field of the Dead itself, all of those lands are counted. For example, if you sacrifice eight lands while resolving Scapeshift and search your library for five different basic land cards, two Field of the Dead cards, and one other land card with a different name, youâll create sixteen Zombie tokens.
Awesome! Thank you for the explanation!
For me, as a tatyova player, won Zack.
Wow
I guess he forgot he could dredge his life from the loam?
You canât. If you donât have cards in your library, you canât dredge.
is this the same adam in mtg muddstah?
Itâs not, but we would love to play with him sometime!
At 13:30 shouldnt tatiova go into exile since Adam died.
No. That only happens if the player leaving the game cast the permanent or put it on the battlefield under their control to begin with.
Since Tatyova was stolen, the control-changing effect simply ends and she returns to the previous controller.
800.4a. When a player leaves the game, all objects (see rule 109) owned by that player leave the game, any effects which give that player control of any objects or players end, and all spells and abilities controlled by that player on the stack cease to exist. Then, if there are any objects still controlled by that player, those objects are exiled. This is not a state-based action. It happens as soon as the player leaves the game. If the player who left the game had priority at the time he or she left, priority passes to the next player in turn order whoâs still in the game.
13:20 Wait so you'll get permanents that you own but don't control back when the player that controlled those permanents loses the game? I thought that they would go to your graveyard :p
If an effect is giving the player who leaves the game control of it, that effect ends and whoever would otherwise control it gets it back. If not (usually because it entered under the control of the player who's leaving), it's exiled.
I haven't seen it in the comments yet so excuse me if this has been said but Ryan lost his mana crypt flips 6 times in a row the chances of that happening are about 1/64 or about 1.56% all I can really say is ouch
This is actually a common affliction of Ryan. He loses his mana crypt triggers more than he wins them.
how did zack get his tatyova back after killing adam? when adam dies, all of his permanents should be exiled, so tatyova is supposed to come back to the command zone, and that would cost zack 7 mana of that turn to replay her.
When Adam died, the control effect from gilded drake ended, so it reverts back to the owner.
Permanents that changed control go to their original controller when the current controller leaves the game. Permanents that entered the battlefield under an opponent's control (think Gonti or Fallen Shinobi) will be exiled when their controller leaves the game.
800.4a. Since Tatyova was stolen, the control-changing effect simply ends and she returns to the previous controller.
Ryan is a lunatic, someone stop this madman
I feel bad for Ryan :(
Not sure PWP reads comments but as stated in other comments Zack couldn't lose to mill like this with Nexus of Fate in his deck.
It was a misnomer in the decklist. His list doesn't run Nexus of Fate.
Wait. Didn't he have a life from the loam in the graveyard? He could have dredged and replaced the draw.
If you don't have enough cards to mill, you have to draw.
Dredge's reminder text: "If you would draw a card, you may mill [X] cards instead. If you do, return this card from your graveyard to your hand."
You need exactly 3 cards in library to dredge Life form the loam.
Has got to be the worst mental misstep anyone has ever seen
Why couldnt zack just use cyclonic rift remove all the persistent petitioners?
Grand arbiter made it cost one more, so he couldn't cast it.
blast zone missing for win :/
Persistent Petitioners feel like a needle the rules of commander. I hate this card and when one player is playing them, I try to set up all against that player. For me is the Persistent Petitioners the perfect card for people where doesn't want to build a good commander deck ;o)

That's like putting the movie twist in the trailers. C'mon.
