Can we get "Everyone braces for impact..." as a motif on the next set of PWP merch? It's increasingly becoming a staple of the channel!
Cursed Totem should be there in a tie with God-Pharaoh's Statue, because the game ENDED the moment it was gone. It single-handedly shut down both Kenriths and prevented Zack from activating his creatures for more artifact shenanigans.
Yes, only totem kept the kenriths down.
For sure! The longer the game is, less valor you get from the statue i guess, because people can get mana to pay the tax. And it was a very long game, so i think the MVC was cursed totem

IOh kp , web
I have seen a couple comments talking about missed God-Pharaoh statue cost increases. I went through it a second time and checked but the ONLY time I was not able to find the mana for it was when Cal cast Intuition at 16:19 (Excluding the Simic Signet which was noted by the PWP team), he paid what looks like only 3 mana for tapping what appeared to be Hinterland Harbor, Rejuvenating Spring, and Chrome Mox for what should be a 4 mana spell at this point.
A lot of the initial ones I thought were misses were by Cal and Adam which both have Carpet of flowers and were just using the carpet of flowers mana to cast which is not obviously apparent when just looking at the board state.
Cal also has Baral, Chief of Compliance out in later turns and he reduces the mana cost of instants and sorceries by 1, so a free counterspell such as Pact of Negation which was cast would cost 1 mana not 2 since Baral reduction works on the increased cursed totem cost.
If someone is able to figure out the Intuition please reply here I spent a bit of time trying and just could not explain it away. But other than that and the Simic Signet the god Pharaoh statue was certainly paid for every time.
True, I believe you are correct with that intuition. I count 7 available mana between lands and chrome mox, then -1 cost from baral which is still 4 and only 3 mana paid.
I also only see 3 mana spent, but Cal ends up untapping with 4 mana open so it didn't really affect the game.
Basically we didn't want to say it every time something was cast, because it would bog down the narration. Thank you for taking the extra time to look through it!
At the very least it doesn't look like the Delay that countered Karn was paid for either. It looks like he only tapped the Signnet, the lantern, and tapped one land to pay rhystic. Baral reduced the extra cost by 1, but that's still one mana too few to also satisfy rhystic.
@@themadstudent Tapped Signet and Sol ring actually to pay for Delay which thanks to Baral only costs 3 mana
Great game! You werenât joking about Cal playing table police
I'm so glad you have a great editor. I couldn't imagine watching a cEDH game that was 3 hours and 20 minutes long in real time
Love seeing Rashmi doing what it does, it's definitely my favorite commander. I saw Tyler's win coming from a mile away the moment the Totem left the battlefield. Such a great game!
Seeing Rashmi made me so excited lol, I've piloted her for years but I don't see it much
Have to say, that Daretti deck is sick and I'm super sad it fizzled out due to totem :(. God-Pharaoh's Statue almost getting a kill was also amazing. Good win by tyler tho
I'm glad Tyler won, I am getting to a point where people who play Simic or Sultai strike me as weak tryhards who aren't good, they're just abusing the fact that Wizards wants Simic to be on an entirely different power level as other color combos, an entirely different tier
I definitely wonât say it fizzled. It almost popped off sooo many times only to get stopped by Cal.
And that sick pyroblast to get God-Pharo into play was beautiful.
God-Pharaohâs Staue +2 mana to cast spells: Am I a joke to you guys?
that game was super loopy, people managed to draw identical interactions twice which made it all the more hilarious :P
I feel it's very necessary for me to write this comment for all of you at Playing With Power (Regular players, behind the scenes people, and anybody else I may have forgotten to mention). I've been playing Commander for the last 5 years and cEDH/ Pauper for the last 3. I've been watching Playing With Power for the last few months now. I'm a person who doesn't build too many decks. But everything I build is my own idea, I do not net-deck. One of the reasons I need to thank you is because even though I had Competitive Decks built before I started watching PWP. You pushed my game to another level. First, by helping encourage me to play in pods more often. As opposed to the once a week games that became par for my course. Also, you made me very excited about joining my local area cEDH tournaments. I ended up winning first place a couple months back with my homemade Kinnan deck. Watching episodes off of your channel, I tend to use them as a playbook. Kind of like in football. Each one of you amazes me. From Ryan's warming introductions at the start of each video to whatever next-level-ridiculous plays Mike pulls off (Or has in his opening hand). Hearing any of your names brings a smile and great story I can talk about at my l.g.s., at a cEDH tournament, or elsewhere. Thank you for inspiring me, not just as mtg players but as people. To finish this comment, I'd like to share a little story about PWP I'm not sure how many of you are familiar with. There's a video from a while back on The Spike Feeders channel where The Spike Feeders (Jim and Bill) talk about how the PWP team (Folger and Mike) brought them to their area of Ohio. I'm also from Ohio. I thought that was a really nice thing to do. As well, it's something that brings a smile to my face from time to time. Stay safe everybody and keep up the Tier 1 work!
Wow. Thank you very much for sharing! All the best!
Amazing game! A lot of crazy stuff happened, but because of the two control decks, it wasn't the usual crazy stuff. Really refreshing to see!
Very fun game to watch. Love the effort you guys put into these đ
Game felt like it was over as soon as Adam played the Windfall. Why would you do that with Smothering Tithe on the board? I thought maybe Adam would use the Spirit Guides to attack Tyler and try to kill him, but none of that happened. It seemed like this game should have ended much differently
Agreed.
I really like Tylerâs Kenrick list! Super cool how he comboed off.
Yo that was a sick game! Hey Zack, is that mishra's workshop real? Like the â$3000 one? Cause that's some dedication.
Also, the fact that intuition into narsets reversal happened twice was great! đ
Ok, that was a dope combo with whirlpool warrior. I've never seen that before, I feel like it'd be interesting in a Brallin Shabraz deck
Always happy to see a Daretti deck!
Some crazy stuff this episode!
Whew boy. That was one of the longer games on the show!
That was awesome! Great game tp watch.
Cal is the policeman with the fuzzy handcuffs, and you can't convince me otherwise.
So much stuff happening!
Super cool game! Kenrith seems cooler and cooler. Daretti seemed like more stable build of Magda, with way more options to tutor up the combo. Thank you!
I wanna know the reasoning behind that windfall by Adam at the end there. With a smothering tithe and no ouphe on the battlefield, that couldnât have been a good decision unless he forgot about the tithe.
Desperate? But I don't think I would've done that either
I had the same immediate thought. Like... you realize you're giving him 30+ treasures right? Unless you're ending the game on your turn its over.
@@peterstewart7332 or ending Tyler first at least.
@@joshholmes1372 I honestly thought Adam was trying to find Lightning Bolt from Zack's deck to do just that lol
@@Serouzo Yeah, I was expecting it through that entire stack.
Damn... that Cursed Totem put in WORK
Such an amazing game, why I enjoy commander.
Wow that was a grind!
Even the narrator forgot about the God-Pharaoh Statue tax, but never skipped a beat on the Rhystic Study or Smothering Tithe Tax
didnt know about that whirlpool merfolk combo. Never seen it around, i have one of those might use it in my kenrith lol.
That poor God pharaohs statue just sitting there all game like "am I joke" :(
Does anyone know why Adam hard cast the spirit guides?
Didn't Zack have the ability to use goblin engineer to re-swap the totem and sol ring? He had mana from the ogre...
What a good game!
Rashmi Daretti AND Kenrith were all impressive in this game. Nice one!
Spicy sauce! Such a GG guys. Love it!
anybody know what the art is on Tyler's playmat? Almost looks like a Joe Mad drawing.
It's a skin for a champion from League of Legends called "God Staff Jax" its my favorite playmat!
Hey Cal uses the same bird token as me =D
Ooooo a new video. đ
I'd be interested to know what makes Telling Time worth it over Anticipate. I don't see any cards that particularly care about the top of the deck beyond Dark Confidant.
Rashmi cares about the top of the deck ;)
@@PlayingWithPowerMTG I was more thinking about its inclusion in Tyler's deck. It's not in the Rashmi list.
Why'd it have to be Golos instead of Kenrith? đ©
What is the art on Adam's playmat?
This game was GAS!!!
Cool jax playmat
Thanks!
ok, this one was good
of course tyler would be a dirty jax player i see you :D
>;) only in the jungle though. I've been maining him for a few seasons now.
I may be sick but I love the counter wars
I just want to know where Adam got the Matt đ„ș
PWP: âAnd *this* deck is a Kenrith reanimater deck.â
Me: âHave you any idea how little that narrows it down!â
I dont know if its meant this way but you say 19:45 that he attacks with kenrith + exalted but he only takes 5 it should be 6
Not only that, but at 16:00 Cal takes no damage from the Kenrith attack at all.
I love the constant god Pharaoh statue misses
Right? Like it came down early, annnnd pretty much just pinged at the end of turn lol, the +2 got ignored the whole game.
Aside from the Intuition(Which was a weird one that was paid 3 mana for even though it would have been 4 and let Tyler draw off Rhystic so idk what happened there), every other spell obeyed the God Pharaoh increase, many spells were cast using Carpet of Flowers mana which is not clear on the board state but was indeed there and then when Baral was out it appears that Cal is paying Rhystic Study triggers but he actually isn't and is paying the God Pharaoh increase thanks to Baral reducing costs by 1 and letting Tyler draw instead, or just paying it after the spell resolves when Ryan notes that Rhystic trigger was paid for you typically see the players tap the mana afterwards and not directly on spell cast.
I need a grand arbiter deck with endless godpharaos statue (i now you need to make him first to a creature to just copy a nonlegendary form of him and then copy that)
You should do a golos 4 pod lol
More budget cedh pls đ
God-Pharoah's Statue feel s like a worse Rule of Law, but it does cost people 1 life per turn, and it's off-colour, and it's fetchable by Sisay, which is something.
noxious revival is illegal in that deck no ?
Start to play cEDH ,they said. Games will be faster, they said. Play Time: ... 3h20' :D
This was a sloberknocker
Cal punted so many times.. ooof
#freeGolos
Turn 8, Cal don't pay the statue tax or I'm missing something?
Cal paid using the 2 mana from Carpet of Flowers he added to his mana pool. It is very easy to miss since there is not physical representation to signal it but in total he paid 4 mana, 3 for the sol ring(Chrome Mox, 2 blue from Carpet) and 1(flooded grove) for the Rhystic Study trigger.
@@Beocaleb I meant on Zack's turn 8, when he cast Karn
@@adams333 Each was paid, Delay costs 3 was paid with Sol Ring+Signet and then taps 1 land for rhystic tax, Force was paid using Utopia sprawl which costs 1 mana thanks for Baral reducing its cost by an additional 1 using the second mana produced by Utopia sprawl to pay for Rhystic, I would have said these earlier I just didn't know when in turn 8 you were specifically talking about. My bad.
@@Beocaleb thanks, I saw the land being tapped later after the delay for Rhystic, my mistake.
A really complex game
Hey, just curious:
Do you think that voltron is a cedh viable strategy?
I'd look at pako and haldan or one of the ishai archetypes
It can be but itâs a slow strategy unless you are playing godo which is technically voltron lol so youâre gonna have to slow the game down to give u time to set up and start taking your opponents out
There are builds that try to accomplish it. Things like Jeska/Ishai try to use Voltron-ish strategies.
@@pendragon6580 godo is more combo than voltron. Originally intended as voltron? Yes.
It depends on what you call voltron. My definition of voltron is using auras or equipment to load onto a commander and kill with commander damage. By that definition, no I donât think it is viable. It just sets you back too much when your opponents get to interact with you. If your definition is killing a table through commander damage, then yes I do think that is viable. Pako pair, ishai jeska pair, dargo jeska pair, kamahl partner hatebears, and a few others, are viable strategies. They can kill with commander damage in a reasonable time frame, without over extending into your opponents removal.
Is it just me, or are they missing the other text on God Pharaoh's Statue the entire time? Having all their spells cost +2 should have been back breaking, but it seemed to me that they just ignored it the entire time... besides that though, it's great content and a fun game all around!
They did pay for it, Cullen Owen has a great comment about it and that he pain stakingly wen through the footage to check. Essentially, Cals board looks the most damning, but with carpet and baral a lot of God pharaohs statue can be paid for. There were only 2 misses with one being called out by PWP.
@@ADudeWhoExperiences1393 Thanks for letting me know! Appreciate it!
Whereâs Folger at? Did he retire ? đ±
Kenrith and Golos could literally be anything. Will their top status every be challenged? lol
*golos is banned
Well, one of them is knocked off the top...
@@ADudeWhoExperiences1393 I saw the news not to long after I posted this lol. Spoke too soon

Love to see Zack bust out Daretti
lol how many missed triggers? 10+
JUSTICE FOR GOLOS
Whereâs Folger?đ€·đŒââïž
Cal forgot to take 6 from Kenrith
Not only did they leave him alive, they fed him treasures and cards like crazy. Yikes
That last Windfall with Tithe on the battlefield was a poor choice, and gave the game to Tyler. Yes, Cal maybe could have won, but Tyler was sure to win. It was a kingmaker play.
Exactly- especially since Cal could have easily just beat Tyler down with Kenrith before wheeling to avoid this
Ngl, shame that Tyler won because it wouldn've been funny if he died to God Pharoh Statue
How rude >:(
Funny enough, we were all joking about that after the game. Would've been hilarious
Why of why didnt you just delete tyler adam?
Demasiado se misseo el stax de God-Pharaohs Statue y le quito valor real al juego.
Damn, even the best players forget that kenrith can place counters on stuff. Would've saved the opposition agent.
I would challenge anyone on the planet to give me a good reason Adam's deck isn't playing thoracle combo, 5C turbo adnaus with no thoracle isn't a deck building decision it's just not cedh.
Because it results in boring, repetitive gameplay.
With infinite mana lines, you can use any combo you want with kenny. He draws cards, reanimates, gains life, gives haste and trample. Saying that not having 2 staples isn't cEDH limits the format.
It's a cEDH deck that has been adjusted for the sake of content. It's still very able to win after resolving Ad Naus, so the primary win con of the deck is unaffected. The deck would absolutely have Thoracle Consult in it if the primary aim wasn't to produce interesting gameplay.
@@lucarr1041 the primary aim should be what the channel promises every video but has failed to deliver in weeks, "the most powerful cards in the most powerful formats"
@@chrisdempsey3170 yes, which offers kenrith more versatility in a list that objectively should be playing the most efficient wincon in the format since it costs nothing for your deck
wait, the same commander twice? Is that even legal???
Sucks to see so many misplays.
Unsubscribing again. Ppl only Interact in the stack, lots of counterspells. Any creature or artifact stays in play the entre game. It seems ppl blindly only wants to assemble their combos before each other :/
"Unsubscribing again" lmao
