Seeing Hullbreacher for one last time and it entering the battlefield at sorcery speed is just hilarious!
For those complaining about the Thoracle win... in this game, does it really make any difference? After Folger resolved Ad Nauseam, victory was almost secured regardless of his combo choices.
Ad Naus is honestly more of a problem than Thoracle, imo.
Still, is Zzzzzz to watch the same wincon in every u/b deck tbh
@@vanilleR028 Why is the last 10 seconds of a game so impactful? The routes to get there are always different, thatâs why the video is as long as it is. Thereâs a whole game that gets played to get there that isnât being dramatically impacted by the combo.

The no cards in the library win con is a cheap win i don't think should be a thing. I started playing during the first Ravnica Block back then if you had no library you lose due to deck out

Man folgder is a damn good duelist. His ability to use interaction at a good time and usually get the win is amazing.
i love a good flusterstorm stack. also couldnât folger have countered the mystic remora with his mental misstep to fizzle mikeâs swan song instead of countering swan song or did i miss something
mystic remora isnt a problem as long as hullbreacher is in play.
@@khurgar8120 But still, targeting remora would have been the optimal choice. Something could drastically change the board state at any time, so denying your opponent the chance to accrue resources in the future, no matter how small, is to your advantage if it cost you no additional resources.
i.e. You ate already casting the misstep for 2 life. Targeting swan song gives opponent a fish. Targeting fish gives opponent nothing. Both are legal targets.
@@AlsoNamedChad there can be a lot of reason for doing things. Everything from alliances to forcing your opponents to play differently should hull die. Ontop of that if remora is in play, will the player pay its upkeep or will he use removals for hull, thus using up resources to remove your stax piece, and if he does the rest of the table needs to consider if hull or remora is worse. Ontop of that folger probably wanted the board to be taxed somehow, so even if his hull dies remora will make the table play slower.
To say that it was the optimal play only takes board state into mind, but a game is a lot more than just board state.

Thanks for the content. I found it hard to see the top corners of the mats where shaun was keeping his carpet of flowers. In the future just a framing thing but I'd recommend either asking the player to move the card into frame or giving an image of it somewhere else so it can be seen/remembered. Cheers!

Man Hullbreacher was opressive as hell bwahahaha. Folger didnt even need the thoracle this time it seems he might have just been able to smack everyone out in combat with all that life gain.
Breacher did what it was made to do. Stop draws. It did not strip any hands this game

So, reading through the comments I saw alot of salty "Thoracle wins boring" and "why show the episode when Hullbreacher is banned" comments...
I loved the episode! I'm in complete agreement of the ban, and this game perfectly shows why! Also. The Thoracle win was hard achieved by Folger being archenemy and targeted like that most of the game.

It still is weird to me that people can watch 20 minutes of awesome gameplay, yet still forget everything and get salty when Thoracle wins a game already won. It's like watching a new episode of your favorite anime, then rage throwing your remote into the TV because they still use the same outro music.
It does not matters what you fought through to win using Thoracle. Sorry not sorry.
This episode showed why Hullbreacher got the hammer. One stax piece that slowed the entire game to a grind in a color that can easily abuse it.
@@Hitzel exactly this. I loved the episode because it showed what cEDH is all about. Waiting to be able to go of and timing it perfectly. I don't personally play it, but I appreciate the patience and skill that is involved with cEDH.
This is one game where no one can really be mad about the Thoracle win... Folger resolved an Ad Nauseam, his victory was an inevitability after that.
I think ikra should be mvp it gave Folger enough life to play ad naus and live he was at 18 left at the lowest before starting to gain back life and spent over 20 life on ad naus to find the win

I have to say, watching this after your podcast about the ban, I agree. This wasn't as interesting a game to watch, purely because of Breacher. Nothing against you guys, you definitely made the best of the bad situation, but it'll be nice to see such an oppressive card go.
Hi I am new to Cedh, currently I have one deck, Tasigur, focusing on Dramatic Scepter with Thassa/Lab man mill combo and I wanted to make something a little different with some partners I have (Tymna, Tevesh, Thrasios, Vial, Sakashima, Kraum). Could somebody give a brief explanation on some of these pairings playstyle/win cons, currently I am looking for another disruptive deck to challenge my Tasigur deck, Thank you.
Am i missing something, what prevents mike from searching library for an answer to krum with sisay?

Thassa's Oracle win? This is when I like the video because it's a great win condition and the actual contents of the game matter more than the combo that ends it.

Why did Folger counter the Swan Song instead of the Mystic Remora? Wouldn't countering the Fish deny the flying blocker by having swan song fizzle and the fish itself.
He kept the fish so he could potentially gain more treasures through Hullbreacher.

Another game that I ask "Where is Trickbind?"
It stops Thoracle (killing the Thoracle user) and Najeela infinite, and can't be interacted with. (Only citing win conditions of this game).
It is so devastating agains Thoracle that makes players think twice to go for that win.
People need to recognize the value of Split Second. Trickbind, Sudden Spoiling, and Angel's Grace all stop Thoracle and Najeela (though Angel's Grace for Najeela isn't ideal), and that's the end of the discussion, no counter wars or winning over the top, just no.
Good episode! After watching it, I'm more convinced that Hullbreacher didn't need to go.
PS: The Sisay player almost had it. I thought it was game over đ€Ł

@@FPRobber â Hi there! It wasn't sarcasm. I do not agree with the banlist in general (for me it shouldn't exist at all).
But for this particular case, and in my opinion, Hullbreacher stopped the Rhystic Study and Sylvan Library players and made the game more interesting.

Honest play pattern question: At 10:38 a Mental Misstep countering the Swan Song being used to make a flying blocker. Would it not have been a better choice to counter the Mystic Remora, as it would have denied Mike both card draw and his blocker? They're both 1MV cards so both are legal targets.

Because that would have been the White version of the card and they really needed to give Blue a better tool to keep up with the card draw of non-blue decks.
Does the Playing With Power crew believe Hullbreacher should've been banned? I know this game shows what it can do, but then again this is cEDH. Do you think cEDH should have it's own rules committee?

How did Folger win if he didnât pay for his pact of negation trigger?
It didn't resolve. Deflecting Swat changes the target of Pact to Deflecting Swat, then when pact tries to resolve its target is no longer on the stack. Therefore there was no delayed trigger of pay or loose the game. :D

@@themadstudent veil doesn't do anything to red spells. It only nerfs black and blue. So veil can't stop swat.
@@themadstudent Veil of Summer makes it so that your spells cannot be countered, but swat is not countering. The spell is "countered" by the rules as it fizzles without a target. The purpose of Vein wasn't to protect pact but to create a window for the Ad Nauseam played shortly thereafter.

I think people saying boring thoracle win don't rly understand cedh lol. Like ya Folger won with thoracle but the game was over when ad naus resolved. Interesting duel between mike and Folger, a shame the other 2 seemed locked under the stax pieces.
Why don't you use Sylvan Library? Are you saying it's bad to draw one, then put it back, lose 4 and give Folger 2 treasures????

@@abrahamdrinkin2534 they werenât in this game because this was before the hull breacher ban. Now that hullbreacher is banned, youâre going to see a return of motion thief and narset. Why run notion thief for 4 when you could run HB for 3z
@@abrahamdrinkin2534 to tack on: Narset, Parter of veils; Notion Thief; Alms Collector; Spirit of the labyrinth and chains of Mephistopheles are all valid options. The problem was pre-ban HB was just strictly better than any of these. So if you werenât going full stax effects, there was no point in running anything but HB.

I will admit I am happy that hullbreacher got the hammer. But I feel that Oracle needs to be banned
People might complain about Oracle or Hullbreacher being the deciding factor of the game, but rather I think that this game is a perfect example of why Kodama-Sakashima just isn't that powerful of a partner pairing. The whole game Zack was twiddling his thumbs, not able to leverage his Commanders for value, while Mike and Folger were able to build up more dominant boardstates and handstates.
For similar reasons, I think Shaun's deck might need a bit of retooling; maybe 4C Omnath instead of 3C? It didn't seem like his commander did much besides just grow slightly bigger.
Pod needed more interaction. Too many things went unanswered.
2 players couldn't really draw into interactions since their hands were full of draw cards while Hullbreacher was on the field. Shaun had Windfall, Ponder, and Timetwister in hand. Zack had Sylvan Library and Rhystic Study on board. But then, Hullbreacher.
@@wirakirros7281 well hullbreacher gone now, but narset and notion thief still exist, although notion thief has been that prevalent, perhaps it will see more play now. Regardless Cedh needs more interaction in deck in general.

Sisay is a mono white creature meaning you can only use white cards if you have her as your commander...
Sisay active capacity cost all color, so she is a five color commander. It's not just the cost of the card, it's every color symbol on the card that count.
Itâs like Najeela. Red creature but a WUBRG costed ability.

100% true. It stopped people from abusing Easy draw enchantments. Now people can use all the draw enchantments without repercussions. Whatâs next? Ban fish and Library? Lol
@@OnyxANZ the whole argument for banning it is, well it makes some players feel bad. I understand it slows the game down a little bit and it is difficult to answer, but doesn't usually take over the game to the point that it needs a ban. I mean if Hullbreacher has to be banned, then Stasis needs to be banned also. I'm not advocating for Stasis to be banned, I'm just saying.

After seeing your tweet about how this game is a good reason Hullbreacher is banned, Iâm starting to lean more to agreeing with the banning. Obviously my opinion doesnât matter in the grand scheme of things but, I can completely see why it needed a banning.
Folger couldâve also misstepped the remora and it wouldâve fizzled the swan song, and also kept the fish off the table. Didnât matter cause Mike died immediately after but wouldâve been a better play.

Doubt that will happen because the RC said they will not do bans based on the cEDH needs or wants. They see cEDH communities as the smallest portion of commander players and will not indulge them if itâs not a âproblemâ for casual players.
@@SASORI55555 the thing is, people are constantly crying about thoracle being too strong because of these combos. And with how things are going.. thoracle would get banned and those cards wont, but thoracle is completely fine without those cards existing
@@OnyxANZ Just locally ban it in your play group? cEDH is competitive and as such will always use the shortest ways to victory. If they ban consultations and such other wincons will come that will be just as boring to watch after a few months.
@@khurgar8120 It's not even in my playgroup. Reddit is constantly crying about thoracle (when it's not the problem). Reddit's bitching and moaning is getting to the point where it's forcing bans. Meanwhile, I don't even get to enjoy watching videos because consultation/pact just invalidate games. I watch PWP because they try to come up with creative decks at the highest level, but the decks don't matter when every end is the same and predictable. cedh is getting there in variety, but this combo is one of the few things making it boring.
Lot of misplays happening. Rhystic Study is a static ability it always triggers on a op casting a spell you do not get to choose if it activates. Meaning they have to pay 1 or he draws then hullbreacher triggers as it is a replacement effect also meaning Floger has a ton of mana by 5:40 which is the time into the video I am posting this. This could have very well swung the game into his favor. Very poor reading of the field so far not likening this gameplay in CEDH stuff like that cannot be misplayed as it is Competitive Elder Dragon Highlander.
Rhystic study is a may ability. While the trigger is manual, the decision to draw is optional. So this comment is way off.

Gotta love old recordings, I can understand not wanting to waste footage but cmon, half the reason these videos r watched is to see how the meta/strong decks r played so u can take that information back to ur cEDH table and win more games. If u have banned cards in the decks it takes away from that heavily, especially if it's a banning as prevalent as Hullbreacher.

I hope you realize that after Folgerâs Ad Naus resolved it didnât really matter what he won with. He had most of his deck in his hand. It was a well earned victory and a great game to watch.
