It breaks my heart to learn about these travesties as an adult, but never learning this in my youth- makes me feel shameful, like our school systems did us a great disservice.
If we forget our history, we're bound to repeat it. Not only that but we become ignorant to the ancestral discrimination faced by those around us. The stigma that holds over people, that we're just naively oblivious to.

Thank youfor sharing Ida's sory. I have never heard of her before. Love her boldness in a time when it was so dangerous to be black and bold. ugh why are people so evil? How do you cross the line from seeing humans as things. I will never understand.

How did I not learn about her?! I actually took three journalism classes for my undergrad English degree. The idea that any university journalism course in this country doesn’t include her works, history, or story is a baffling travesty. Well, it’s a travesty. Maybe it’s not baffling, when considering the systemic suppression of the voices of women POC in our university system. Thanks for the story. Now I gotta go to the library. I want to read some of her work.

I actually learned about this in school but it was grazed over so quickly when there was so much more to learn! Our schools shouldn’t be so afraid of teaching kids about the horrible things that happen in history. This way maybe we would have a more understanding and compassionate society. Plus, it would probably make people more cautious about potentially repeating the bad parts of our history. Ida’s story could have inspired so many more people if it was truly taught in school.

Thank you so much for reporting history. It isn’t just black history, it is all of our history. Tired of being told that people who look like me should not be discussed because someone’s feelings would be hurt.

I know its hard work finding all this data but keep doing what you do we all truly appreciate it.

I'm in England and we have a dark legacy of racism that we don't talk about in the same way as you guys. We don't generally know the names of anyone who changed things here so hearing the personal stories of black Americans is really important for us too. You are a great advocate for those who suffered in history and make everything really relatable. I'm very grateful for your outlook and input.
