- Hi friends, happy Thursday!
Welcome to Dark History. People used to be sacrificed for popcorn. Yep. The buttery goodness that you finish eating before the trailers are even over at the movies. Now you may be thinking, “how in the heck does that make any sense?” Because, honestly, that was also my initial reaction. But let me tell you, the history of popcorn is WILD. And we’re getting into all of it on today’s episode. So buckle in, babe.
I appreciate you for coming by, and I hope to be seeing you next week for even more dark history. Hope you have a great week ahead and I will be seeing you very soon xx Bailey Sarian

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
missed u love u and dont you worry, murder mystery and makeup is coming real soon xx
Lovee you Bailey! Missed you!!!
YAYYYYY
We've been patiently waiting 😌
So exciting!!!
Yaaaassss!! 🙌🏼 Bailey I’ve missed you sooo much! I hope you’re doing well and keeping that crown straightened!! Love you Queen!!🥰
Awhile back during a conversation with my daughters...ages 35 & 26...my youngest replied...oh nay nay...& I responded...Bailey Sarian!!!... turns out all 3 of us love your videos & watch you regularly...♥️♥️♥️
That's so sweet!
That's so cute 😍
Thats so cute. ❤
priceless
That is awesome you figured out they watch it too because of their comment. lol
As a native american watcher of your, I truly appreciate how you don't demonize native lifestyles and beliefs. You're beyond respctful when sharing the history of all these morbid things. Thank you for having this awesome podcast!!
Love that scammers can't even spell bailey's name right.
I mean….why would she mess up her money by doing that? Let’s stop thanking yt people for being nice to us, it’s strange
As a native who’s not whitewashed. I don’t think that’s what she was doing but told the truth on what they used to do.
@@kthkakes I mean how can you not think these rituals were weird ..? I mean you can be proud of who you are and still be open minded
She truly is one of those rare humans 😊
"And what's more powerful than strength?"
Me: "...corn?"
"Intellienge"
"..oh that makes sense"
Sameee
🌽 🍿 💡
Absolutely me too!
Lol 🤣🤣 yup same here 🤣🤣 then... Duh 🙄
I think we all had the same thought haha
I love dark history 🖤 I miss MMM too but either way, I just need Bailey’s voice back in my life.
It may sound weird but I miss watching her do her makeup too. I loved watching her looks come to fruition and it was always calming to me…I really hope she brings it back
@@JulieNick28 no, I get it, me too. But I feel like everybody is missing a great show because it’s not MMM. I love her robes and Joan 🖤
@@brandiemanuel5102 do we know why she stopped? someone said MM&M was gonna start on the 1st but i guess not
She has uploaded MMM episodes recently on Spotify, but Bailey is not posting those here
@@User_-xv7ol I just checked out what you were talking about. That’s because those stories are all old. So you can watch those here on CZcams, but they are old.
"Don't forget to thank the children who lost their heads for your bowl of popcorn"
That hit different with a bowl of popcorn in my hands 😆
Lol same
Same. I stopped chewing like oh
Ill never Look at the popcorn the same way
Okay but did you thank the headless children
Europeans were shocked at this though they did the same.
So cool! My dad was on the team of 7 (or so) engineers who figured out the technology for the little black “sheets” that make microwave popcorn pop. We enjoy talking about that experience. Yay, 1980s engineers! 🎉
Oleo, or margarine, has a pretty gross history, all by itself! I would love to learn more about the facts in that dark history. It started out as a lubricant made by the military. It sounds perfect for you. Yes? No? Maybe? Hopefully? Pretty please? 🥺
That would probably be a cool one.
I second this request
Can't wait faithfully have checked every Monday and Thursday for a glimpse. Will be waiting patiently.
Me too
Me too
Glad I’m not the only one 😭
Same. Been watching crime interviews an such just to pass time 😂
I just wish y’all would chill. There’s so many other content creators to watch. She has a lot on her plate and people keep making videos criticizing her. Sooo stop checking every week, go out and touch grass babes
I love Joan's little popcorn. Does anyone else anticipate her little accessories? She's so cute! 🖤🤣
Yes!! 😂 I love seeing what new outfit Joan is sporting in the latest episode 🤭 🖤
Joan's 'fits are always a-slayin'. Ain't that right, Bailey.
For me, I really like corn. CORN. A big lump of knobs. It has the juice. I can’t imagine a more beautiful thing. It’s corn! I can tell you all about it. I mean, look at this thing. When I tried it with butter everything changed. 🌽🌽🌽
Literally came here to say this. Well done. 🙌
I just searched for this comment XD
I legit ran to see if anyones brain was like mine now… 😂😂
Ew💀
It’s has the juicee..
Bailey: They're were chopping kids heads off.
Me: WHAT?!
Bailey: But first let's go to commercial
🙃🥴
🤣🤣🤣💀💀💀
Factssss😂😂
Bailey: first they killed a little girl and then a woman.
My Son: I don't think men should be allowed to make up religions. 😂
Your son has been raised well 🙌😂
Your son's reply needs to be a t-shirt.
Out of the mouth of babes! Yours is the best comment I've read probably ever. Kids are so intune.
or laws
Oh but they were other sacrifices where young boys, warriors, men and prisioners were to be offed, killed, or eaten so it was pretty even. (?)
"Sad animals and stolen humans...you remember The Circus... It all started with a man with a small ego who liked horse tricks... it always does" What a perfect description! (34:28) 🙃
@yaliso gioouy i dont think men should be.
@yaliso gioouy are you at all concerned that one day, your son will be watching bailey, see one of your comments, and click onto your page? That would be an ungodly amount of cringe😳
Bailey and her "bra corn" is just another example of how she is us and we are her. The realness never stops.
Do a 13 colonies episode! I heard that at the time in England, if people got in trouble with the law they were sometimes sent to the colonies to be slaves, and it was considered worse than be sentenced to death for so many reasons, including the danger dying on the boat before they even arrived.
Bailey literally got me more interested in true crime. The make up was definitely appreciated. But I love dark history, as a teacher, history was one of my favorite subjects. I love the "small details " books left out.
You might be a long lost reletive!
History teacher myself in Australia. Although mostly American history, I have found these deep dives very compelling.
As someone who is half Mexican...I can say that my ancient ancestors the Aztecs were the original "children of the corn" 😉😁🍿
Hahahahaha!!! Best comment ever! 😹🤪🤣😂
Children of the maíz 😭
Same, lol.
They weren't the Aztecs, they were called the Mexica. Aztec is just a whitewashing term. Also, there were many different Native American tribes in Mexico, the Mexicas were the ones living in present day Mexico City. So they may not even be your ancestors at all. Learn your history.
@@zoilalulu3798 my ancestors are mostly from the state of Jalisco which had many individual tribes that belonged or were a part of in some way or another to the Aztec empire.
Yes, I'm generalizing here with the term Aztec as it's a empire that many are familiar with in some way. I'm not a historian but I do know that there were many tribes/peoples in what we know today as Mexico just as there are in many countries across the world.
I made a play on words since the topics of corn, horror, blood, and the ancient Aztec empire were part of the video. That's all.
As a Aztec I knew most of this already and yeah I think you should do a whole episode about the Aztecs it would be awesome
You could totally make the 13 colonies an interesting episode! Look into the dark mysterious stories of the 13 colonies and you won’t be disappointed 😊
I would LOVE a season dedicated just to ancient civilizations, that would be soooo cool!
I second this!
I 3rd it!! Definitely lots of dark stuff to talk about
I 4th that, especially the water cisterns from Petra Jordan
I looove learning anything about ancient civilizations so that'd be awesome!
Bailey, you don't owe anybody anything. We love it when you're here, and it's cool when you're not.
Fans can be quite demanding
We’ll said!
💯💯💯
Totally agree!
Finally!! I’m so tired of seeing people be so negative towards her.
Please do a dark history of Monsanto! Just watched a docuseries and they pretty much own our food supply, it's wild.
Also, missed you queen! ❤
And they are making sure seeds are sterile.
agree
Yes I second this!!
I'm terrified to know about that company, we need the info tho 😢
They are much too boring for Bailey. They just poison us so we aren't aware of what they are DOing!!
Popcorn was a way to stay off hunger pains in the depression as I was told by my grandmother.
Bailey‘s backkk. I’m so glad to hear your voice again. Please bring back MMM. Those made my Mondays🥺❤️
Right! Singing her intro “sha na sha sha na sha” was the highlight of my Mondays lol. The other day I was watching the Elvis movie and that music was also the intro to some of his shows in Vegas I believe and made me thing of MMM and Bailey
I too miss MMM!!! It was the highlight of my week!!! I like this one too, but MMM was mah shiiii!!!!!!
I've REALLY missed Bailey! My friend of 40yrs passed away a few weeks ago. We would chill & watch MM&M & Dark History...ALL the Bailey things. 💜💜💜
So sorry for your loss ❤

Sorry for your loss❤️❤️

41:50
I can't relate. I'm to busy sneaking in my chicken wings to worry about the price of popcorn
Bailey coming back for Dark History is the single best thing that happened this summer.
Everybody's saying mmm but I love dark history, you really know how to make history super interesting and entertaining, it became part of my weekly routine 😂
Yes I'm the exact same! Love it 💗
Exactly! I love them both. I feel like I learn a lot with Dark History
Can’t we have both? Why isn’t Bailey doing nothing but entertaining me? She can’t have a personal life or go on vacation! Who does she think she is?!?! 😂
Truee
I love both shows I just love her.
Been binging the dark history sodes that I've missed bc I have been depressed 😅 bailey is my therapy
You need to have your own show on television kinda like Elvira Mistress of the Dark. Oh how I miss her sense of humor so of course I love your humor and concept for this podcast. 🪬🪦🔪🔮
Tell me why I had literally JUST "randomly" looked up the history of popcorn (because I remembered the Laura ingalls books where they talked about eating popcorn like cereal) then gave up the research and decided to check Bailey's channel for new videos....my surprise when I saw this. Freaking magical 😭😭😭✨✨✨
It was meant to be 🖤🖤🍿🍿
😂😂 we’re all psychic
Synchronicity
Laura Ingels..... so wise. She taught us young women so much. Do you remember her description of maple syrup candy? When Ma would boil it and pour it onto fresh snow? I can't tell you how many times I tried this, starting with a bottle of Aunt Jemima. 💜
Bailey please do a video about the 13 colonies, as a non american teen I have no idea what went down and the way you tell it is actually intresting and fun. I skipped alot of history classes but none of your videos lol
As an adult American who was taught about the 13 colonies while in school, I feel like there's a bunch of information that has been washed to fit a narrative & we should hear the truth. I think a Dark History for the 13 colonies would b awesome!!
I was taught in col in England. I was lucky they stopped the course when I Finnished it opened up to much unrest aperently
You will find out just how many Indigenous American Nations and Tribes were decimated to make way for the Colonizers - They do not like to discuss that in “American History.” Every story begins with the Colonists Discovery and Settlement of the North East Coast- If you want the REAL story- sit around a few night time campfires with some Tribal Elders- and hear the stories of how this country was ….
Be careful what you ask for! There's a lot things that went down in US early early history that isn't nice at all! Haha. But I agree hearing it from bailey would be hands down better than some sad sap that is forced to teach 2 classes a day in order to be allowed to coach basketball!
@@bendaniel5901 well since not knowing the history we re doomed to repeat it, I d reather be traumatised from the story than from the 1st hand experience :,)
I highly recommend you look into King Philip's War and the tribe that helped the people of Plymouth. Maybe a Thanksgiving-inspired Dark History would be a better time to discuss what they did to the tribe that saved them.
I lost my dog a week ago, and his name was Percy...watching this episode really made me smile 🥰
Percy was my best friend so it was cute hearing you say how you love Percy 😅
💜
💜
I firmly believe that pets own us, and they only pass on when they decide there's a new pet who needs your love and help even more. You just have to find the new pet 🙂
I hope Percy finds his way back to you
Delightfully strange person, very odd stories, and brilliant delivery. One of the best channels. Big fan.
Dark History should be required viewing for college history classes lol.
YESSSS!!
I learn so much. More than high school.
If I was history teacher, I would for sure use Dark History for one of those chill days where you just watch and take notes afterwards🤣 no one would get bored either because she makes learning history so fun and entertaining!
I agree
High school classes. Teach our kids again.
When she said “who was carrying the torch of corn?” I thoroughly expected her to follow up with “the Corch?” 😂
Bailey: I’ll blink twice if I need help
“Proceeds to blink more than 4 times in the next 2 seconds”
BAILEY ARE YOU OK
I cannottttt express how excited I am. It’s like waiting for a new season of your favorite show on Netflix to come out but in CZcams form. Lol.
bailey: “chopping kids heads off”
me: “oh😃”
bailey: “ad break”
me: “oh yeahh? ☺️”
can you PLEASE make a Dark History episode about the darkness of Disney Channel and making child stars?
Scariest thing about this episode is that I actually have an uncle Joe who dresses up as Santa every year.
Heck yes to Dark History, nothing else like it on the CZcams.
Bailey… Mondays are going DOWNHILL without you girl I’ll be anxiously waiting for that notification
💄💀🖤
aaaaaaand now i am dying for a box of poppycock. like the fancy pecan kind. haven't had it in years, but i am now filled with want. thanks bailey
I try to avoid buying that. I eat the whole thing in one sitting.
Bailey has the kind of contagious laugh. Her giggle makes me laugh, too, every time!
Yay!!!! As a family we always say “Oh Nay Nay ☝🏼” lol. Thank you for your bubbly personality and one liners!
IDC if it's MMM, MMT, MMW, DARK HISTORY, LIGHT HISTORY, MAKE UP, OR NO MAKE UP !! IF BAILEY IS IN IT IM ALL FOR IT! I LOVE YOU GIRL !
Does anyone else rewind & replay her “Bailey” moments at least FIVE times each?! 🤣❤️ (see 28:58 if you don’t know what I mean!!) Love ya Bailey thank you for being such a light! Keeping us all in better spirits after watching/listening to you!
If you wanted to do the 13 original colonies, don't pass up the mystery of Roanoke.
That could be a whole episode in itself.
“Sacrificing myself in the corner wearing someone else’s skin” by far my favourite line in the whole video.
I died lol
So excited for more Dark History. Reminds me of a kids show I loved called Horrible Histories.
they have an CZcams channel or did. I came across it last year.
My favorite CZcams channel ❤️
My 7 year old is thankful for this episode right now...her 4 big sisters are busy with their own things and she was sulking. 1 bag of microwave popcorn later thanks to this inspiration and she's a happy bunny. Popcorn...always there for us, especially exhausted parents!
Everybody needs a break at anything, we love you because your real and we can listen to you like it would be like just hanging out not having to watch our language ya know. You are real, and I love watching you and love true crime and your extensive details, I know that takes a lot of research, time, and commitment.
I'm from Ohio. When I go back home to visit, I will never look at all those cornfields the same 🌽🌽🌽
Also, if anyone is interested- There's an old opera house style movie theater like Bailey mentioned, but is still operating today in Clifton (Cincinnati, Ohio) called the "Esquire theater." It opened in 1911, originally featured silent films, live theatre and an organist. Survived the great depression. Later Featured "talkies" when sound became a thing. Still has much of it's original structures, (what wasn't required to be modernized) painted in the main lobby where you walk in, not the lobby where you buy food. The ceiling designs are painted how it would have looked to patrons some time ago. It's like stepping back in time!
Can’t forget about the popcorn museum in Marion!
Love old theaters 💕
@@saxosaurus13 and the field of corn art statues near Columbus!
I would looove if you did an episode on the 13 colonies! I listen to you religiously ❤❤❤
What about the popcorn that we made in the metal handled tinfoil covered popcorn and hot air poppers???guess I'll have to Google it lol...this was a great video...thank you Bailey 😃
Jiffy Pop. They still make it.
Woman! You genuinely keep me in stitches. When you said your skelly friends name is Paul....I nearly died! My exes name is Paul and I would love to see him as a dead guy! Lol So happy for season 2!!! Love ya!
This made me laugh an unreasonable amount 😂😂😂
I, a lawyer, get your humor Bailey! Keep going lol not everyone is a stick in the mud 😂
Bailey your version of “I’m proud to be an American” has me in stitches right now 😂🤣
You're always positive Bailey!!
This is such perfect timing. I canceled my birthday party because I am sick and bedridden, but this video is everything wooooo
happy birthday! wishing you a quick recovery
happy birthday,and,sorry you're sick.hope you feel better
Happy birthday 🎊 🎂!! Wishing you a speedy recovery!
Feel better quickly, and then have a lovely birthday celebration! 💜💖💙
The Aztecs believed that sacrifice would get you to the next life faster. It was an honor to be sacrificed in their beliefs. (I learned this on a tour at Chichen Itza)
When I was a kid, I went on a field trip to Stony Brook University and their Native American studies department. The girl had us sitting on the floor and served us popcorn in large clam shells, saying this was how the Native American's on Long Island ate it.
I just finished watching the corn kid video 😂 and it ended and automatically started playing THIS cut into the part where you’re talking about how corn was used by the Aztecs. I WAS SO CONFUSED..
Squirrels bury corn …now my parents have patches of corn growing in their yard
Also shout out to Squanto
So I studied the Mayans as a kid in social studies class and went to their temples the summer earlier for vacation and my teacher gave me extra credit for bringing in my photos. Also they played a basket ball like game and the winning team was sacrificed to the Gods. WILD.
Yeah, they saw it as a great honor because it would bring balance to the universe :) I literally just came back from visiting the Mayan ruins
The WINNING team was sacrificed!? Seems like that might bring effort levels wayy down during those games. That iS wild.
That's called pok a tok and the reason the winning team got sacrificed is bc they wanted to give the best to the gods.
@@abisar16 and now we have TIkTok
@@morgangonnelly5683 they were sacrificed to occupy a similar place to vikings in Valhalla. It was though they were going help the gods in a great battle. And vikings were not afraid to die to impress Odin. Why would Mayan and Aztec warriors would be any different? Same thing, different continent. All ancient warriors saw giving their lives for their gods/land as a great honor. Is not weird at all, it was kind of the norm in those times in most civilizations.
Y’all… I will never look at corn or popcorn the same…. Ever again 🙌🙌🤣
“Look around Barbara” really stressed me out. 😂 I really thought she was talking to me. 🤦🏻♀️
Cant not fricking waitt. For what this season brings❤😫litterly miss her so much.
Bailey I love your dark history, and your dark sense of humor. This was a very interesting dark history, as I sit here eating popcorn. LOL 😂🤣😂🤣
LIKE SERIOUSLY?! fckn love you! ..28:52 prime example of why i dig your goofy self and also how you just roll with the side thoughts..YET your factually-loaded presentation leaves me feeling hella educated! I'm always anxious for more "Bailey-time"! if i brought you to meet my family you'd get along quite right! haha. stay you!
Wonderful episode as always, Bailey! But I have to mention that after WWII and before microwave popcorn we had two decades of the most fun popcorn ever... Jiffy Pop! Please tell me I'm not the only one who remembers moving it over the flame and watching the big aluminum bubble inflate, then pouring melted REAL butter over it... and as far as I know Jiffy Pop never gave anyone lung disease! I don't know if they sell it these days without fake butter, but you should try it either way, Bailey. You don't know what you're missing. Thanks for all your great content, I watch every episode over and over.
Love Jiffy Pop. You can still find it in stores!
Missing MMM but I’ve rewatched all of them cause the week isn’t complete without your wit and energy….love me some Bailey 🇯🇲🇯🇲🥰🤩
We miss MMM
You’re going to love this, every year in September, my hometown has a popcorn day festival. 😂
Something you don't hear watching MMM: Bailey's amazing laugh 😂
Speaking of popcorn lung and vapes at the end there… maybe that should be an episode ;) on how cigarettes went to those little e-cigs to those crazy vape rigs to Juul pods.. to the now popularized disposable and rechargeable disposable vapes
Ooo yes!!
Yes! The tobacco companies were involved, of course.
Absolutely love dark history! I honestly could listen to tell stories forever and that fact you learn something is a fun lil bonus
Only Bailey could make learning about corn interesting 😂
Just wanna say popcorn lung is definitely not a thing of the past; I’ve never vaped or smoked anything but am currently in the hospital awaiting a lung transplant after being diagnosed with popcorn lung. Stay safe friends. ❤️
Wishing you healing and safe recovery 🙏

I totally agree with you about the blood on the seed, it is beautiful
I really enjoyed the story of the ant who crossed the mountains for a single kernel of corn that saved their village! 🌽 🌽 🌽

As someone who has popcorn everyday… this messed me up! But glad to see joane and nice to see we have a new dark history member, Paul!
"You got a D- in history, why in God's name should we listen to you and your history stories"
LOL I feel that on a personal level. History was my only "bad" grade in school because no one ever made it fun, like this.
