I found this abandoned Manual Lamborghini Murcielago and risked it all to buy it and rebuild it. We found that the person who rebuilt the V12 engine before did a terrible job and now its up to me to rebuild it again. I have no experience with Lamborghni V12 engines but Im willing to learn. To save cost we are trying to avoid the main dealer by cross referencing expensive parts to other cars like Ferraris.

Got to say a massive massive thank Matt. Over the years I've suffered massive depression and anxiety and even got diagnosed with PTSD over a childhood experience. I'm 42 now and suffered with this for years. Watching your videos really brings smiles to my face and gives me hope. I've always been handy with the tools and worked on my own cars bit never had the courage to go at something big but watching you has given me the confidence to not only look at buying a car from auction that needs work but even socialising that might sound daft but because of my issues ive never really been a talkative person but sometimes now I can't shut up when sat in the pub with friends telling them about your videos and project's so again thank you so much.

Good luck with your project Mike. I bought an old TR7 for £1000 to fix up, now I have a '72 Beetle cal look that I am teaching myself to repair. These are quite good as plenty of parts about that are cheap. Oh, and don't give up when they fight you back, or the spanner flies off and smacks you in the eye.... !!

I hope you realise how lucky you are haveing your dad around to help. Especially with the level of skills he clearly has I think it's safe to say it will 100% run and probably be even more perfect than if you had sent it to be built keep up the good work👌

Matt you're really proving yourself to be one of the best car guys on the platform. There's a few out there with the skills and the resources to take on insane projects like this, but I can't think of anyone else who can make it as entertaining. My favourite find of the year, keep it up lad.
Skills?? I really enjoy this content but don’t be ridiculous mate. Mat wouldn’t know his left hand from his right - he doesn’t have to because he’s got people around him for that.
He’s got the ‘look’ and is comfortable using hyperbole and exclamation. I’d be willing to bet 90% of his views come from America for that reason.
He demonstrates he doesn’t know the difference between a chart and a graph in this video. So far the only people pulling this build off are his dad and his mates Mum. But good luck to him. My old man isn’t rebuilding a Lamborghini for me.
@@GetUpFalcon you're right but it's entertaining nonetheless and fair play to him for branching out (regardless of the help) and doing more interesting stuff. All his other "builds" have been "fit some new bits, slam it, send for paint or garish wrap, fit overly loud terrible sounding fart cannon. Repeat." Boring.
Best of luck to him, takes big balls to fork out £100k for a wrecked Lamborghini! Skills-wise everyone has to start somewhere.
@@GetUpFalcon you're definitely right in that he's pretty much a layman when it comes to the technical aspects of rebuilding cars. Maybe a better word to use would be the guts to take on a project like this, and that is completely undeniable.
Also him not being a trained mechanic really is part of the charm of his content, it's inspiring and it's kind of like watching yourself take something like this on.

I am not much of a car person but my father has a rebuilt Studebaker Avanti II. When I saw the first video I thought I would check it out. It reminded me of all the work my dad had to get done to get it road worthy. I remember the first time he took me out in it. It broke down on our way to a breakfast restaurant. These videos are excellent and I really can't wait to see you get the Murcielago working.

Mat, as someone who lost his dad as a very young man (11), I think you working with your dad is wonderful, both doing what you enjoy, a memory that will never get lost in the fog of life.

Man, I cant even explain to the viewers how much work has to go into your editing and how long it must take, Glad to see you get to work your pops.
Looking at the instrument cluster PCB with the burnt resistors I would say that it is likely that some other components were damaged by the reverse polarity and the blown resistors are just collateral damage.
If you can post some hi-res close ups of the PCB I may be able to spot the other components that you need to change. More than likely you are looking for blown voltage regulators and diodes. Often you can spot a slight swelling or crack on the component body. I would also look to see if they fitted any SMT fuses that might be blown along with any PCB traces that have burnt out.
Im thinking along the same lines
You might even look for circuit hot-spots with a borrowed or Rented Thermal Camera.

I enjoyed watching you talking about the complicated bits on the engine and you made it sound really easy to understand. I mess around repairing cars and I found your explanations were so easy to understand especially the bit about shims. Excellent work Mate.

I hope you checked the gap of the new rings when they are inside the cylinder. You basically should put new rings in the cylinder individually without a piston and check if that gap is normal.

And put the ring gaps in the correct location in relation to each other on the piston before installing them in the cylinders.
I'm praying that we see the main, big end and thrust bearing clearances checked properly.
Yes, great important point. This rebuild should be performed by an experienced expert.

... And the guy/mechanic at the dream car experience was a total tool and had no business sticking his fingers in that engine. That engine was butchered....no wonder why he left or was asked to leave.........
Same amount of work for any car. Have the parts you can assemble any engine over a weekend. It’s not difficult at all but the guy who originally worked on it didn’t have any idea how an engine is assembled.

Doing things like this - that you've not done before - is the best way to learn. No "expert" has ever done anything, 'til they got on and did it in the first place.
One of my all time favourite experiences was building an engine from scratch with zero prior experience at the age of 18. Books, internet, research .. do .. make mistake - learn from it, fix it, try again ... brilliant experience, and brilliant fun.

This series appeared in my recommendations today. Probably because I started having more interest in cars. Got myself a Honda Civic EP2 1.6 and I started working on it as a hobby. But when I started watching that initial video with you towing the car to your shop and started working on it, got me hooked.
