I found an abandoned gated manual 2002 Lamborghini Murcielago at a track experience place. I took a risk and bought it. Since then we have been rebuilding the engine which someone attempted to rebuild 7 years ago and bit by bit we have been finding some surprising mistakes! This time we take the green wrap off the Lamborghini ands it just gets even worse.

This man has gained 100k (subs) in 3 weeks off the back of this Lamborghini video series. The car gave people a reason to click, but Mat gave them a reason to stay. Just goes to show that being a positive person is always a great personality trait.
I need to get that positivity from Mat as not much seems to bother him no matter how bad it seems
@@MasterKaloryfer I mean 100k subs.
Of course, this is for content, that is the whole idea behind his channel. ;)
@@PeetHobby Good thing you were here to decipher that, Sherlock.
@@MasterKaloryfer nice money! He needs to pay for this build ahaha…. Needs as much £ as poss
The amount of surprises this car brings has to be a record hahaha great series Mat
The surprising part is that all of these problems are common on Murcielagos, including the cutting a hole in the transmission tunnel bit. The owners of these cars don't want to pay for what it costs to yank the entire transmission out, since you need to get it on a lift, unbolt, disconnect everything, and drop it down all to tighten a bolt if you can just cut a hole and cover it up afterwards. If you're doing the work yourself, then its fairly reasonable since the only investment is time. And on top of that this is also the perfect time to do a clutch job, so that tends to be an added cost as well because... well why tear it apart to adjust a bolt and not just replace the clutch at that point as well.
Has to be one of the best CZcams’s. Informative, transparent, and gives back to fans. And he actually works for his money, not just sat in front of a camera talking, up till 3am working on cars. Smashing it
Hands down one of the best car projects on youtube right now! I think you can officially class yourself as a mechanic once this is complete 😂
Fr
Don’t worry about the hole for the gear linkage, Hoovy did it on his own car and is on his channel. Due to the nature of the carbon tub it’s not structural and won’t effect it at all. Amazing project and I’m emotionally invested in this 😂
Agreed, really enjoying this one!
With Matts thumb nails there defo machanics nails lol

£2300 for an oil pump!! That would av done me in!

I beg to differ, the whole reason we watch = more views to uncover stuff like that, Matt praying for fuk ups to get more subs
Love this series 😂. You’re doing great work on the Murcielago.
The mechanic that worked on that car was an absolute hack 😂😂
Mat is the most positive guy i've ever seen
Great work mat ❤
Yea I would be crying if I spent 100K on this
No kidding.
I think you'll be ok with the hole in the transmission tunnel, Tyler Hoover cut one in his Murci transmission tunnel as well
I remember this be okay it will
more rather the wizard, his mechanic, because it apparently is a bit of a shit work... didnt he said its an engine out procedure? I gotta say, that hole is definitely beneficial to the repairability of this car, albeit its a hole now...
I came here to say the same thing lol
@@matty7965 Me too!!!
@@user-wk7wv8rn8h okay yoda
I think Hoovie and the Car Wizard cut the same hole in his Murci. In one of his videos.... Good luck Mat. You and Dad deserve a round of applause mate. 👏
Yep, they did exactly the same thing to Hoovie's Murci. Not a big deal Mat, just another hole!
They did a better job though. The circular cutout is better for strength and was also smaller. This square cutout doesn’t even look like it has rounded corners
Was the material carbon fiber? Would be a great location to learn CF repair techniques since you don’t normally see it.
@@JStryker7 Yea, the square corners is where you would end up getting stress fractures if they where to show up. Rounding up those sounds like a good idea Jezza.
And actually the Car Wizard didn’t want to do it and Hoovie took all responsibility.
I wonder if the ‘mechanic’ is watching this series in front of a fireplace with a cigar in one hand and a glass of whiskey in the other 😂 he’s the true villain for sure. Without him, we would not have this series.
Your videos keep getting better and better man. I’m from Minnesota in the USA. I stumble upon your videos randomly on Facebook and now I’m hooked on all your rebuilds. It’s crazy how much time you have to put on making the videos and rebuilding cars, but keep it up!
With respect, I think it’s a little offside that the previous owner hasn’t told you about what has happened to the car. I’m sure all will come good in time, except for your bank balance! Keeping the faith for you Mat, you’re the man! ✌️Need to hear your Dad laugh again, an absolute legend! His laugh is so infectious 😂
Sadly from 2030 on all combustion cars including classics will be banned
from public streets in entire EU and Scandinavia :-( In Germany the
Green Peoples Party gave order to shorten fuel supply from 2025 on by
reducing all conventional fuel stations to only one state operated
central gas station per city or county. Now they even want to slow down
all the gas pumps from 20 litre per minute to 2 litre per minute...From
2027 on in the EU certain car spare parts will be banned too....as
exhaust systems, turbo chargers and even some engine and gearbox
oils...California and New York will do the same from 2027 on.... So no
investments should be done in oil burning cars any longer....They even
created a new kind of crime here, called emissions and smoke crime. "Bundesabgasbespaßungsverbot" in German.
all of that is completely wrong
@Fandango I totally agree. I definitely would have a renegotiation on the selling price.
@@Schlipperschlopper und nix wird gebannt auch keine classics, auch nicht 2040 leider. dabei muss alles weg sein so schnell es geht
@@Schlipperschlopper Correction, they will stop manufacturing them, but i would assume they will still be on the streets for another 20-30 yrs

Your so lucky to be able to work with your dad, I lost my dad 38 years ago miss him every day

I don't usually comment on mat's videos but I just wanted to say how much I'm enjoying the videos and I wish mat every success. He's doing so well. Brilliant channel. The way he describes what he's doing makes it pleasurable to watch but educational at the same time.
I have to agree 👍

It’s a classic dad thing to do as well. Son is working on something so you they just turn up to see what’s going on😂
great video,as as an engineer who has done bench fittting and assembly of engines etc. watched your engine rebuild with great interest, your dad obviously knows what he is doing,I would like to point out however that the key you mentioned in the oil pump is called a parallel key,a woodruff key is parallel when viewed from the top and is half moon shape when viewed from the side, there is also another type called a Gibhead key which is used in open keyways on the end of shafts.Keep up your great videos
I seen the first episode last week. This project between father and son is great! Keep it up! Can’t wait to see the next episode ✌🏻
Mat, you’re amazing in the sense that you’re staying so positive with this. I can’t help but feel that the owner has had you over with the sale. Are you telling me that he wasn’t aware of all the issues ?

Great video again Matt. Think we all need to show some appreciation to Matts Dad, for teaching him how to do these things. Ever day is a learning day. Keep up the good work guys
This guy is very clever. What's locked away in his head must be priceless. Combine that with his can do, anything is possible attitude and you have something very special.
I am not a car guy at all, stumbled across your channel, and I am intrigued and a fan! Can't wait to see this beauty (in the rough) going down the street!!
I've been watching this channel since the end of the Aston build and I've been trying to put my finger on why it's so much better than all of the other automotive crash rebuilding channels. I think it's the voice over. The voice over the timelapses is so naturally done that it feels very professional. It has a TopGear-esque quality and could be easily a Discovery channel show. Well done Matt and team. You have a winning formula here. Keep it up.
Dude I can’t wait to see it running and everything. It’s gonna sound amazing
You and me both
Keep going Mat! Each setback is making this a better series!! Your positivity is infectious
I really appreciate the way that you work with your Dad. That makes good content, GREAT.
Hoovie did the hole to reach the transmission too. Saves alot of labour iirc.
For the hole on the transmission tunnel, add some sheets of carbon fiber and resin. As for the interior, I'd consider paint some green leather sections black.
Great channel Matt, however, regarding the oil pump, a woodruff key is a half round key, your missing key is called a parallel key, they come in standard widths and you can adjust the height with a milling machine or file as they are clearance on the top, you can buy key steel and just make your own with a hack saw and file.
Such a legend matt! Luv the positive attitude know you got this. Really respect how responsible you are being by not cutting corners to save money.
One hell of a challenge but if anyone can do this Matt and his team can. 🎉 Your dad appears a superstar too.
I am looking forward to the end of this build more than any other. The end product is going to be off the charts. Love the content Mat!
Dude, I love the bonding with your pops. You both are learning on the fly. It seems like so much fun.
Hey Matt, a lot of shops cut out that part of the gearbox Tunnel. Tavarish did it and Hoovie Garage did it.
So yeah..there is quite a few cars with that modification
Been looking forward to this next lambo video coming, loving the progress with the car and to be doing this with your dad is SO cool, look forward to the next video !
Not many youtubers grab my attention. But Matt certainly has. Seems real genuine. Loving the builds man!
Thanks bro
Papa Armstrong is back yay! My father passed away when I was 5 so I think it's really cool you're doing this project with your dad and will have so many cool memories to share with him as a result.
I am so invested in this Murciélago, that it is giving me grey hairs & anxiety. Well done Mat for staying so positive and love to see you working with Hannah & your papa
Really enjoying this indepth engine build, well done matt.. your dad's been a godsend
I really feel for you bro!!! Sad people in this world take £100k of your well earned money without being honest about the car 😔 …it will all come together though buddy!
I , too, think the poor lad has been ripped off! He’s such a nice guy and doesn’t deserve to be scammed.
@@barrypos55 exactly, he paid far too much for this motor and I just feel sorry for him at this point. I love his enthusiasm, love his content, but none us want to see Mat ripped off for the cars he's repairing, it's not on. The people who sold him this car should give him half back as a good will gesture. I felt he should have took the other one.
Yeh, they ripped him off big time with this car, absolute scam merchants. Cutting a hole in the carbon fibre tub is unbelievable, I hope it hasn't caused structural problems because if it has that car really is scrap. Even if it hasn't he's never going to be able to sell that car for decent money, he'll be lucky if he makes his 100K back.
Unreal!! Matt should dress up as his detective and goto the car experience place and confront them!
One of the reasons I watch the channel is for Matt’s positivity; he might have paid too much but he will earn it back (and then some) as it’s superb content.
This is the best automotive yt channel, so impatient about new videos every week.
Oooh it's beginning to be a lot like Christmas 🎄 ✨️, well at least all these Mat Videos this week feel like lots of lovely pressies
Keep it up Mat. Loving the content 👍
Years ago I bought a Porsche 911 and a $19.00 tool box. I stripped that Car to pieces and restored it not knowing anything about Porsches. I restored many more with just blind ambition. It was so fun! You inspire me to try and do it with a Lamborghini Matt!!
Love following this build!
I'm really loving the positive attitude, Mat is a good example of a hard worker and some people might think you have it easy. So motivated 👍👍
Shame on the previous owners - that is absolutely shocking. It's definitely had a very hard life. Good luck with the rest of the build mate!
Absolutely loving this series. Just makes you wonder where these driving experience companies find their engineers
In the Wild West riding horses by the looks of it 🤷🏼♂️
The only problem with you video's os that they end Mat!
Man been here since the early days of you channel, what a journey! Wish I could keep watch until the build was done just like a Netflix series!
Keep staying positive Mat! Sending good vibes all the way from Singapore. Love seeing your positive attitude even when you find one surprise after another! It will help someone starting out to never give up and keep on grinding. The videos get better and better with each new build too, cant wait for the next one :)
Mat's attention to detail and work ethic is a masterclass in how it should be done. No shortcuts or leaving anything to chance, he exemplifies the very best of British workmanship.
You seem a very positive dude, taking on this massive job, big up to you Matt. Massive respect bro 👊🏻👊🏻
Your positivity is so refreshing. You're right in that you could get upset about all of the little 'gems' that you are finding, but what good would it do? Wish you the best!

Honestly, this series is going to be right up there with the Fiero restoration in CZcams folklore. An incredible project, fronted by an incredibly humble and genuinely likeable guy. The making of a legend!
I’m having a couple of issues with the cars bought but watching this makes me feel so much better😂. In at the deep end. Impressed 👌. That plasti feeler gauge is crazy . Never seen that before .
Engine rebuilds use Plastiguage all the time, it's the simplest way to measure baring tolerances.
@@schrodingerscat1863 how long has it been in. I was a mechanic years ago must have missed it.
In certain two stroke motors, we use a strip of Plastigauge down a spark plug hole, turn the engine over by hand & then use a feeler gauge to measure the clearance between the piston and the head.
If the head or cylinders have been skimmed, or a non stock gasket used, or substituted pistons, all can make clearance alter. Too little clearance & the motor will lunch itself!
@@bigsaxplayer6344 It's been around for a good while but before that we would have been fiddling around with micrometers and still not be 100% sure that clearances were accurate when torqued down.
Watch @M539 on his bmw rebuilds of his M5 for a perfect demo.
Loved your videos for years, but this is next level. Keep up the great work Mat...
Matt, your resilience is impressive! I am sure your Murci will be better than new. I am looking forward how you will fix the structure issue.
Man the positive energy you radiate is so contagious. Keep doing what you're doing man, these videos are awesome and lets us all forget the bad things in life... Well except for the fact that someone cut a hole to reach the gear linkage smh
Honestly I've never seen a car where the linkage was only accessible by dropping the tranny. I know dick about super cars, but still, what a stupid design.

First again and this is gonna be very expensive rebuild looking forward to see how much it all costs at the end. Loving the rebuild Mat ❤️
It looks like a new Murcie~ comes in at £200,000 - £450,000 depending on spec, so there's still room, but yeah HEFTY.
Great content lately Mat, couldn’t click quick enough 👍
Fair play Matt, you’ve got some stones taking on this project, wish you all the very best of luck, I’ll be following closely!! 😊
To the Hole cut into the Transmission tunnel: Look at one of the Hoovies Garage Murcielago rebuild videos. They did the same thing on his car.
And if you're worried abot the structural integrity you can resin the puzzle piece back into place and put some layers of carbon on top.
love the series - you don't usually get to see how to rebuild an engine
I am praying that this works out for you. I'm sure it will eventually. Watching this makes me want to tackle a project. The love of the craft is infectious!

This channel is great!
I've been watching it all day lol.
Much respect for al the details and effort you put into all your projects.
That is one monster of an engine rebuild. That poor car has been at the hands of a bunch of butchers but now at last it's found its soul mate. Nice job Mat.
One of my favorite series on YT right now, love it Mat!
Great video, loving the build ❤ reminds me of when my dad and I rebuilt an old lotus europa. The body on that was fibreglass but it was bolted to a massive steel Y looking chassis, hopefully you have a similar set up, as the body wasn’t structural as such.
If it is fibreglass it can be repaired, by grinding off the top layer/gel coat wiping it over with acetone and adding chopped strand matt and resin. It will add additional thickness to both pieces tho if that’s an issue. Fibreglass is very strong it probably will not cause any issues keeping the hole for adjusting the linkages in the future as long as it’s sealed to keep the road water out. But if you want it perfect get sanding 👍
Great content and very engaging personality. Keep at it Mat. Thank you!
