What kind of setup for a nice quality music do you use? Both portable and at home.
I run a WiiM pro into my Audiolab 7000a using the amps internal dac the spec of the Pro plus isn't relevant to me for this reason. If you dont ha e funds for quality exter al dac then the pro plus makes sense. Perhaps WiiM should make a more naked version with higher spec components and no dac.
You are partially right. Digital signal quality output is not the same accross audio devices. So even with external DAC, streamer itself can make a difference to the sound. Check out 'The digital output of WiiM streamers' video on CZcams which will explain it in more detail.
However in case of choosing between Wiim Pro and Wiim Pro Plus digital output will be identical.
Ealan, Thank You for the very detailed review. I have muliple Wiim Pros and decided to try the Pro Plus. I like the streaming to multiple stereos throughout the house feature. The audio quality on the Plus maybe only be perceived through analog sources, but it is an upgraded DAC from what is built into my CD player. The remote is handy for my preset playlists. I don't have to fiddle with an app, just 1 button press and I'm there.

Question:
My record dec has a swich between phono out and line out. I asume that in line out mode there is no reason I cant plug it into line in on my pro but I was told I can't . Have you tried ( is "line out" not the same as say from a cd "line out") ? Having watched this video the pro plus sounds worth it .Would you think it's line in could be even better at coping if there is some technical aspect I'm not aware of?
I do have the pro plus but its been disconnecting wirelessly using my i pad with Spotify ,this seems to be a hit and miss problem for some users and very frustrating until I hard wired into the router, I hope whim resolves the wireless issue since this product is excellent .
So if i was to just want something to stream music and power some speakers which one do you recommend i get the wiim amp or wimm pro plus?
Wiim Pro Plus doesn’t have an amp inside, so the Wiim Amp is the best of both worlds. 🤘
I have had the Mini, for a while. I have, recently, added an SMSL SU-1 DAC, which has the same DAC as the Pro+. As I have no need for an ADC, or remote, I am happy.

I just bought a Wiim mini and connected it to my Topping D50s dac feeding through a Onkyo M504 power amp driving Polk Audio LS90 speakers. I'm contemplating of upgrading to the Wiim pro plus. Do you think it make a big difference in sound quality? Thanks in advance.
Not really, TBH, since you’re already going through the D50s which also has an ESS DAC. If you get a Pro Plus with a good return policy, you might experiment by bypassing the D50s and going straight from a Pro Plus to the M504 amp and see if it sounds any better, just because the Pro Plus DAC is a few years newer. 🤷♂️ If it’s better, keep it. If not, send it back. 😁

Great overview! Apparently, Wiim will soon release the Wiim AMP, which will basically integrate an amp, Pro Plus components, and HDMI ARC into one elegant package at $299. Although I read on Darko’s blog that it may feature yet another DAC (other than that featured on the Pro Plus) when released. Anyway, if you were to drop more dough on that, I would certainly be eager to hear your take!

Hi, is it a good upgrade if I were to add a Wiim pro plus for hi-res audio to my existing music system already with EMOTIVA PREAMP DAC: (1) OPPO BLU RAY PLAYER BDP- 103; (2) APPLE TV 4K; (3) connected by HDMI Cables to SONY BRAVIA TV respectively. Then two TOSLINKS outputs from (1) & (3) connected as inputs sources to my EMOTIVA XDA - 2 preamp DAC. Then the outputs from EMOTIVA are XLR (L&R) to my ROTEL 1080 Power amp which are finally connected to B & W CM9 speakers. Please advise if it is ok to add Wiim Pro Plus to my EMOTIVA XDA - 2 for hi-res 24bit/192khz or Apple lossless & hi-res music from my iPhone 15 Pro.
Oh most definitely. That’s what is great about the Wiim streamers is that it can take any system that might have NO wireless streaming capabilities (vintage systems) - or just subpar streaming options - and opens up a plethora of more modern streaming features. I’d say go for it! 💪🎉

So I got a ? , I’m looking to buy a wiim to use with my klipsch Nines . Which would you recommend? Since you have use both already?
If you’re gonna have it connected to The Nines for the foreseeable future, I’d save a little money and go for the Wiim Pro. But if you think you might eventually move onto some more robust, more powerful speakers down the road (perhaps with a separate amp powering them) I’d go with the Pro Plus since it has the slightly better internal components. 🤘

Ealan, I have Denon x3700H AVR, do you think Wiim Pro Plus would sound better than that?
I am planning to use external DAC and connect it to analog input of denon x3700h and then use pure direct mode. I use Emotiva BasX A3 to power the fronts.
So, is it worth to spend on Wiim Pro Plus or any external DAC for that matter to improve music performance?
Yeah, I would say it would be worth it if you’re REALLY into listening to music through that system a lot. That and if you have some killer front L/R speakers.

Nice review as usual, I’m close to everything he said above but how do I stream my lossless Apple Music to the WiiM and remain lossless? I’m not trying to use wires and airplay is not lossless. Thoughts?
@@Ijy10 I saw one of Darko's video where he explained Airplay 1 was actually lossless but Airplay 2 is probably not. Regarding streaming Apple Lossless to Wiim Pro Plus, your best bet would be to use Apple TV or iPhone/iPad with a converter and use the optical in of the Wiim Pro Plus. But this setup, you would only be using Wiim Pro Plus as an External DAC and not a streaming device per se. I hope this helps.

As far as the software streaming capabilities, EQ and other features, they’re identical.

Well I guess if you’re introducing a separate DAC into the signal chain, might as well go with the Pro, since the Pro Plus mainly gives you a better ADC and DAC. 🤷♂️

The EQ is in the app. I have the pro and the app is the same for both.

Eh, if you’re already using a separate DAC, the difference in audio quality alone might not be much. But it’s being able to take a vintage piece of gear and bring it into modern times with streaming capabilities that makes it awesome. That and easy whole home audio when you have multiple Wiim products. 🎉
As it's using SPDIF which is a digital signal produced by the exact same output stage (pretty sure they're identical on the pro/pro plus), the digital output will be 100% the same and so will sound identical through an external DAC.
At this moment I can connect to Qobuz: 1. with the app from Google Play on a TV Box which is connected by HDMI on an Xiaomi P1 Android TV. 2. Use the app on my Android smartphone and cast to the same Xiaomi P1 Android TV. My opinion is that both sounds good and the info on the screen about an album, I think, it is what is is. CD or even High Res, my question, is this Wiim same or better possibility then how I use it now. Why should I use a Wiim or other streamer? Somebody can tell it to me? Btw: I use 2 DACS which I connected from the same Android TV, I use a splitter, so 1 output to 3 inputs. My DACS are T9 from Aiyima and the K5Pro from Fosi.
I mean honestly, it’s not just about the audio quality, but how easy it is to get whole home audio without the need to run speaker wire all over the house, if you happen to have multiple Wiim products. That and being able to take an older component (integrated amp, etc) that doesn’t have modern streaming capabilities and being able to wireless stream audio through it. Since you already use external DACs, again, you might not notice a difference in audio quality alone. 🤷♂️

If you’re using Apple Music, how are you using anything other than Airplay 2?
AirPlay 2 supports Hi-Res and Dolby Atmos music since it’s over a WiFi connection, not Bluetooth. Although the new AirPods Pro 2 USB-C version supposedly support lossless over Bluetooth, but I haven’t been able to test that since I don’t own a pair…yet.

Just got a used Pro Plus. It doesn’t sound quite as good as my Bluesound Node N130 but at a quarter of the price it was a great deal for my 2nd music system. Being paired to an old AVR that needed a streaming DAC to listen to Qobuz. It’s great to have affordable options. Thanks for the video.

Although/because I like my sound through the pro I have been considering much more expensive streamers, assuming that only then would I get a noticeable improvement. Yours is the first video to explain to me that it is not just the DAC part of the pro plus that has been improved . Mabey I can afford a holiday this year 😃 only joking but the wiim experience is grate having to lose it in exchange for a probably inaudible improvement would be a shame.
that is exactly what happened to me the day after I got my wiim pro they drop the pro plus in amazon. So I immediately pulled the trigger on the pro plus. since I do most of my listening via streaming (AMAZON Prime) I heard zero difference and when I got my pro I got it with a remote combo. still the difference in price was close to 60 dollars I returned the pro plus. as you said may be with an analog source it might be worth it. Im happy with the pro and with 60 dollars in my pocket

Who needs the ADC on this anyway? I don't understand. Does it only apply when buying multiple Wiims for multiple rooms?
A couple of things. You can attach a CD player to the Pro and Pro Plus without Analog if it has Toslink out to what WiiM mistakenly calls SPIDF In. Second, I bought two WiiM Pros and reasons I can not explain the second one included a remote in the newer box for no extra cost. I now own two WiiM Pros and one WiiM Pro Plus but waiting on WiiM to get the Pro Plus Roon certification. You failed to point that out that the Plus is not Roon ready yet. Thanks for the video.
Toslink is a type of S/PIDF In connection. S/PIDF protocal that can be sent via optical cable (toslink) or copper cable.
@@NhatLinhNguyen82 Point is you don't need to use the analog in for that with either the Pro or Pro Plus if you CD/DVD/BlueRay player supports S/PDIF out.
@@stevenwaldstein2249 Fair point, but my point is that it is not missed lable. I agree it is not intuitive and not commonly used lable, but not entirely wrong. In any case, anyone who has audio gear would recognize it is an optical input port which would work with CD players. Obviously only if CD player's DAC is audibly worse than of Wiim internal DAC.

Not really, but I may revisit this comparison once I get a nice turntable in the mix. 🤷♂️
The question is, how did you connect the WiiM to the klipsch. If you connected them digitally, you won’t notice any difference. Need to force the dac conversion to happen inside the WiiM. So connect the speakers with the analog outs.

As a suggestion for a solid starter kit, the Fosi V3 with a Wiim Pro Plus as source and power, with a Stereolith M232 Stereo (10 year warranty) audiophile loudspeaker from Switzerland for a truly unique sound listening experience.
Yamaha AS-501 amp with wharfedales 12.2 WiiM mini in optical in using yamaha built in dac, and WiiM pro plus in analog RCA in with WiiM pro plus built in dac going back and forth and can definitely tell the difference. Tidal connect master tracks.

Correct! The Nines don’t support Wi-Fi, so connecting the Wiim to it via the RCA input on the back of The Nines turned it into a versatile streaming machine! 🎉
I strongly believe Wiim Pro Plus is better than Cambridge MXN 10. I have a Cambridge CXN V2 streamer and connect with a US $700 power cable. I found the Wiim Pro Plus performance and the App is better. In the meantime, the price is way cheaper 👍. I don't play the Cambridge CXN V2 as a streamer anymore.🙃
Now, I ordered a linear power supply for Wiim Pro Plus. 😊 No matter what, Wimm Pro Plus is a giant killer for sure!💯

@@samsquanch67 I just saw your comment, I upgraded to a ifi iPower X power supply on my WiiM Pro and it made a noticeable difference, just a little less noise and more transparent sounding.
It's only about $110 and worth it IMHO.
I also run a LAN wired instead of wireless, run a high quality digital COAX Cable to the ESS Saber DAC in my amplifier.
All combined, it definitely improves the quality of sound.

I had the old Wiim Pro and an SMSL SU-1 combo (which is the same DAC the Wiim Pro+ uses), I sold them both and got the new Wiim Pro Plus. Nothing improved but my setup looks cleaner now with just one unit.

I have the WiiM mini and the pro plus on the digital output not any noticeable difference with the analog output the pro plus sounds much better.
You would be correct about that observation.
The DAC on the pro isn't particularly good (like the NAD CS1), the implementation in the pro plus is much improved.
Your speakers are the downfall
