I went with the Wiim Pro feeding my new Denafrips Ares 12-1 DAC.
The usability of the Wiim app and ease of use is absolutely amazing.

I have spent the last 2 years with both the Mini and Pro. I started out with the Schiit Modi 3 dac on the Mini. I later upgraded to the Geshelli J2(awesome dac).
My mini started acting up so I purchased the Pro. There is a distinct sound improvement with the Pro over over the Mini.
I have since upgraded again to the Denefrips Enyo dac attached to my Pro and I'm staying there.
I highly recommend buying the Pro because most of us suffer from upgrade-itis and will be buying a few dacs.

I have watched so many videos on the Wiim as i just need to replace my old "whole home" selector to a digital one (driving 6 speakers though these just doesnt make sence). i dont need the DAC etc as i have separate amps. Most videos keep recommending the the pro plus but i was thinking it sounds like overkill as i just need the app and ability to group them when needed.
This is the best video that simply breaks down the features and use cases for each. I can now just buy 3 minis, setup an older ipad as a fixed control hub with the amp and enjoy music in the rooms needed

Well Done... I just picked up the pro... Feeding it to the new Geshelli J2-99,
One thing worth mentioning... Optical out from the WiiM to a good DAC also gives you galvanic isolation. The bit rates being the same from both optical and coax out on my Pro, I went with optical.
I'm really pleased. I don't have to run the laptop for my tunes now... Saves me money and sounds fantastic.
You could even go so far as to add a Linear Power Supply, but a simple sub $30 5V Supercapacitor bank will do nicely to feed the WiiM unit with clean ripple free power.
Also - these units can give you a somewhat pseudo disconnect from all the screens. Massive Playlists like mine, play like radio - like the old days before the laptop and all the screens... I feel like I am just listening to a nice stereo now.
A lot of good points here, you can really do a lot with these. These can be as simple as you want, run them straight out of the box or take advantage of the mods you mentioned.
I'd like to know more about your Geshelli.

Hi, Can you comment on the DAC in the Wim amp , versus Schiit Modi multibit ?
I have the latter paired to a Wiim mini ; I’m considering getting the Amp (largely for the amplifier’s sake) , and wondering if doing so would just make my current digital front-end redundant?
(BTW, really great job concisely explaining all of these components in the video!)
@@pushslice I wish I could offer a comparison for you but I dont have the Schiit DAC on hand to go further in depth on it.
@@pushslice I haven't heard the modi multibit or wiim amp, but the Amp uses an es9018, which is what the schiit modi+ ($129) uses.
The multibit is almost certainly a considerable step up. The $299 for the wiim amp would go a long way toward a nice class AB amp, considering you already have a streamer and a great dac.

I was thinking of the Wiim Pro, because I want to hook it up to my older Onkyo 9010 stereo amplifier (US version that includes a Wolfson DAC, fed via either a 96 khz / 24 bit TOSLINK optical connection, or a 192 / 24 bit COAX digital).
Right now I have my TV hooked up directly to the TOSLINK optical jack on the Onkyo.
The TV has no RCA digital out unfortunately.
I'm guessing the Wiim Pro may suit my use case if I hook it up to the amp over RCA digital?
As for the TV, should I leave it hooked up directly to the (lower quality) TOSLINK connection on the amp, or can I have the TV TOSLINK feed into the Mini Pro instead, and then out of the RCA digital and into the amp (via the same route I am planning on using for music)?
Can the Wiim Pro even support that (taking an optical input source, and feeding it out via the RCA digital)?
I'm not expecting the lower quality optical feed to improve audio quality by going over RCA digital, obviously.

Thank you for the review. I just purchased a WiiM Pro for audio streaming in my mancave garage and had a question. The garage has 6 in ceiling speakers and an in-wall focal subwoofer with dedicated amp. The ceiling speakers will be fed by a Niles 250w amp. I recently added a Samsung FrameTV and I would like the audio to also come out of the ceiling speakers. I am currently doing this with a budget digital to analog converter from the toslink of the tv into a budget mixer that then connects to my Niles Amp. I wanted to see if I can accomplish this with the WiiM Pro instead? If not would you have any other suggestions for me?

I am planning to buy a Holo Audio Cyan 2 DAC. I would like to connect a good streamer to it. Which one would you recommend? Is a WiiM, for example, a very good combination?
Excellent review Matt, as always! Quick question. I have the Pro+, feeding a '98 Technics SA-DX940 that I love, then out to a pair of Whaferdale EVO 4.2 and a pair of PSB Imagine X2T towers.
What would be a step up in the dac department? The SU-1 seems to be not, what would you recomend? Thanks!
The Schiit Modi+ Was slightly preferable to my Wiim Pro Plus, but it was very insignificant and the sound may have been affected by my fondness for Schiit as an American company using Norse mythology nomenclature.
You may have to step up to a Geshelli j2, Modi Multibit 2, or Bifrost for an appreciable improvement. Doing this myself eventually, after a better amplifier and pre-amp.
@@frankplissken143 I do like the Geshelli better than the Modi.
I have the Pro and the Mini and really like them both. But the big drawback for me is that they don't support SiriusXM which I use everyday. They are fine for Apple Airplay, but with SiriusXM I have to stream from my iPhone via Bluetooth, and although it doesn't bother me sound quality wise it does drain the phone battery pretty fast. So whenever possible I prefer to use my Yamaha WXC-50 streamer which does support SiriusXM over the internet. Just something to keep in mind if applicable.
Can I use Wiim amp for Sonos to group 4 Sonos speaks as home theater sound system?

Matt, great breakdown! Need some help if you don't mind. I tried the Amp but got a bad unit and decided I needed a more powerful amp w/ my speakers. Sent it back and went the Pro Plus route instead however since I don't have my amp to pair it with yet it made we wonder while watching your video, can I use still use the Wiim Home app's sub/bass management with the Pro Plus and separate amp?
I had just assumed yes but hoping you know.and also if is it possible to time align the sub with my mains. Sorry for the longer post.

Hey Adam, the Pro Plus doesn't come equipped with a sub out so you wont see the options in the app for things like setting the sub crossover. In this case you will just need to dial in the crossover on the sub, or if the sub has bass management abilities like some do, go that route.

Would my speakers being playing in full range though since the Home app doesn't know better? Learning all this stuff so appreciate the replies but this is stuff I should probably go find/figure out myself so understand if you don't get back to this.

@@adame52 depending on the amp you go with you could either 1. set the volume to max on the amp and then use the wiim as a preamp to control volume or 2. Set the wiim to fixed volume mode and control it from the amp, you should be good either way.

Using the SMSL SU-8s right now on my desk, lol. Great DAC (paid $130 ish on sale new from Drop). Paired with the SH-8s (same deal as the DAC just a few months apart) and Klipsch Fives.

My pro plus had the feet from the factory, it must have been a change at some point or possibly only on the pre release that I likely have.

What streaming services do these connect with while not having to drop down to chrome cast or AirPlay?
I just checked my Wiim app; I see every streaming service except for Apple Music. The app is amazing and I love the Wiim Pro
I went with the Pro instead of the mini just because it’s a complementary stack to the other components size wise.

CZcams is not letting me respond. The Wiim is my 1st commercial streamer, I have been using DIY RPI based streamers. The now defunct Squeezer is the app I was using. Squeezer going down is why I got the Wiim, well that and your reviews.
Just a heads up (just started watching) - the mini pro plus has much better DAC / analog chain than mini and mini pro.
And the pro is better than the wiim amp dac.
Yep, I mentioned the pro plus has the best in the lineup.

Don't forget about linking multiple Wiims together for whole house, synchronized music!

One question: Is it possible to use the Wiim minis with the pro+ to stream different (or the same) music to different rooms? I'm not familiar with all the capabilities of the app.
Hi. I’ve had the WiiM mini. (The puck). However in the UK, they have connectivity issues with Sky Q broadband. I contacted WiiM and they know about the issue, they responded quickly but sadly could not fix the issue. It worked superbly before moving to Sky Q. Sadly I’ve now sold it to a non Sky Q broadband user. It’s nothing to do with the WiFi signal strength. I’m now using a marantz 7000n which has no issues re. Connectivity. So simply put, If in the Uk and you have Sky Q. Stay well away.
@@Quicksilver079 hi. Yep. But sadly too technical for me. I’ve now got a Marantz 7000. I’m streaming using that no connection issues. I know it’s totally different to the mini but love the amp and the photo stage is sweet sounding for me.

Fair enough, I actually found it to be towards the top, maybe not the best but certainly in line with products like Bluesound. Everyone has preferences though, which one do you prefer?

Coax sounds way better than the optical output.
That depends on the DAC inputs more than interface type because the mini has good optical out.
Pro is the best. Just add a dac of your choice and let the music go

I’m new to hifi. I got the amp, b&w 607 s3’s and a fairly cheap but good performing sub.
I’m amazed by the performance for the price!
