    The studio that I am a student at ties with only 1 wrap around, utilizing the half-way point on the belt which is contrary to what's being shown here.

      This is the way many schools teach children because it's easier to learn. In fact, even many Masters and Instructors do it this was because it's quicker. However, the result is a criss-cross of the layers in the back which is unsightly and incorrect. With the method shown in this video, the top layer will lay flat on top of the bottom layer with no crossing over. I hope that this explanation has helped :) please consider subscribing and sharing :)

    Hands down this is the video easiest to follow and understand. The most important thing is, it stays on during the whole lesson, no need to re-tie at all!

    I really appreciate this video. My only comment is that the reference to "left" is in reference to you as an observer. When my son watched this video, he was starting on the wrong side because you said "left" - I quickly explained to him that this was for the parent, and used the example of when he is watching his instructor facing him, he has to swap left and right, just like in a mirror. Then all was okay.
    GREAT video, and I appreciate you posting it.

    I have a question: When I graduated to 1st Dan, my instructor tied the belt on me, but not on everyone that earned their black belt, and he doesn't do it very often... is there any symbolic meaning to that?

    • @StoneMountainTaekwondoAcademy
      @StoneMountainTaekwondoAcademy  Před 5 lety +1

      Thank you very much for the question and I apologize for the lateness of this reply. Do you still train? What belt are you now? Traditionally, a student receives their belt from their Master during a tea ceremony. It is a very traditional, symbolic, and highly choreographed ceremony in which the student sits down with his or her Master, has tea, and receives their belt. This old ritual is slowly being forgotten about. Nevertheless, it is traditional to tie a black belt's belt on them for the first time. If your Master did this for you then you should be very honored. I hope that this explanation has proved insightful :) please consider subscribing and sharing the video :)

    What if their belt isn't long enough to wrap around them twice??

    • @StoneMountainTaekwondoAcademy
      @StoneMountainTaekwondoAcademy  Před 5 lety

      Thank you for your question. If the belt is not long enough to wrap around twice then the belt is the incorrect size. Nevertheless, the way to tie a belt that is too small is to find the middle of the belt and place it at the student's back. Then wrap both ends around until they meet at the front. Then tie as shown in the video. I hope that this helps! Please consider subscribing and sharing the video :)
