Thank you for your question. If the belt is not long enough to wrap around twice then the belt is the incorrect size. Nevertheless, the way to tie a belt that is too small is to find the middle of the belt and place it at the student's back. Then wrap both ends around until they meet at the front. This is the way many schools teach children because it's easier to learn. In fact, even many Masters and Instructors do it this was because it's quicker. However, the result is a criss-cross of the layers in the back which is unsightly and incorrect. With the method shown in this video, the top layer will lay flat on top of the bottom layer with no crossing over. Traditionally, a student receives their belt from their Master during a tea ceremony. It is a very traditional, symbolic, and highly choreographed ceremony in which the student sits down with his or her Master, has tea, and receives their belt. This old ritual is slowly being forgotten about. Nevertheless, it is traditional to tie a black belt's belt on them for the first time.
