As a Bok fan I would be more confident if we had a better back up to Pollard. Libbok and Willemse are not world class yet. Without Pollard we would have lost to Wales in the semi final of 2019 (19 - 16). One thing currently in our favour is that we are only at our best when we are considered underdogs. Last Saturday against Argentina wasn't that surprising because in almost every game where we are expected to win we are mediocre. It has always been that way. The underdog narrative is growing, which certainly counts in our favour. The more we get written off the more we want to fight back, but at the moment only Pollard can orchestrate that aggression all the way to the final. We'll see what happens in the warm up games, but we could have run out of time for Libbok / Willemse to rise up. I love how open this World Cup is. We live in exciting times.

There have always been significant upsets in the World Cup, and I anticipate the same for 2023 . Both Scotland and Italy have the potential to cause surprises. In the 2023 six nations, France only managed to beat Italy by five points, indicating their competitiveness.
It wouldn't be surprising if Scotland defeats either Ireland or South Africa, taking a notable victory. Similarly, Italy might achieve an unlikely win against France or New Zealand. The point is, we should expect unexpected outcomes and shocking results during the 2023 Rugby World Cup.
In previous World Cups, top teams might have escaped with losses in the group stage. However, the current World Cup's setup suggests that any unexpected defeat could lead to top-rated teams failing to progress beyond the group stages.

I do agree this was a RC, charge downs are best chest on, there's no reason to turn sideways giving hip-2-head & we've rightly seen RCs for it before. RCs should be for foul play and the experimental "20min then replaced" card should be added. Maybe more complex but RCs are ruining the game. Unlike a YC, a RC in the first 20 min is a totally different punishment to one in the last 20min.

Lets be honest. The Bok coaching job is no doubt the hardest rugby coaching role in the world, but sadly even still, the team has regressed since 2019. Im sure Jacques and Rassie know this (and Jacques has never been an international level coach as shown in his results). They would never say it this to us fans though. They will rather die on that sword🙂

The fact that he jumped directly at the kicker carried with it an inevitability that he would make contact with the player whether he got the ball or not. Jumping like that and turning sideways added a danger element to the kicker as opposed to a head on land-and-catch.
The incident was completely avoidable - all the jumper had to do was change his direction 5 degrees to jump past the kicker. That makes it reckless and dangerous and that means he should be red carded. FYI - it would also give a smaller chance of being hit in the nuts with a ball.... so that's no excuse!

Our guys are just too inconsistent. There is an underlying panic in SA that we may not even make it out the group stages. Look, these Championship games are realistically just glorified warm up games, so I don't want to read anything into them too much. However, we just look so dead with the ball. there is little to no chemistry with our backline. Our forwards, at times look lazy with no real intensity. Again, it may be because they've been encouraged to just go in at about 75% effort, but even then we should be consistent.
Even in the opening game against Oz, we were not that great. They were just that poor. We're doing in 2023 what we did in 2015. Relying too much on the old guard that are, unfortunately, not impacting as much as the younger players would. It's way too late now to try something different. Pollard won't have match fitness in him if he returns and we are not in a group where we can afford a casual start. We have Scotland first, a tough game. Then Romania, a physical game. Then Ireland, the decider.
We have such depth but our coaches I feel have left things too late. I certainly don't write us off. On our day we can beat anyone, but our lack of consistency and any sort of fluid back line play leaves us as serious underdogs. Our kicking game, one of our traditional strong points, has also been shocking. NZ outclassed us in every single aspect with that regard.
I called it a few months back. NZ to win the WC. We will do well to reach a SF. Of course it all matters on what happens on the day. Going to be a very interesting WC.
