    The thing is, the reason why Lordi was the first heavy metal band to win the Eurovision was because no one had thought of bringing one there before. It was all pop songs before that. Lordi dared to be different and won because of it.

    Ah yes, the only song my country ever won with. And we've been in the contest since 1961! Lordi actually broke two records that year - the most points in the semifinal and the most points in the final. And until 2006 Finland was the country that had been competing the longest without a victory, and our best result before that was the 7th place in 1989! After 2006 our results haven't been the best but I think that Blind Channel's well deserved 6th place will give us the boost to do well in the future!

    • @EmoBearRights
      @EmoBearRights Před 2 lety +7

      Yup! Good luck to you! Well deserved with both bands : -) I think after Portugal's win the longest competing country without a win is now Iceland and the way they're going their virgin win isn't far off.

    I remember when Lordi won. I was in a pub with my friends. I used to be a big fan of ESC but then when you wait for your country to win for 26 years you kind of don't expect it anymore. We have a saying in Finland that a pessimist won't get dissapointed. Everyone was like haha Lordi yeah right! And as the points started coming we where like no it's not gonna happen. Eventually we won and it was amazing 😁.

    It's never a good idea for Eurovision acts to follow the charts either. This year we got a lot of acts that got compared to Dua Lipa and Ariana Grande (plus in one case Lady Gaga) and none of them did particularly well.

    • @squall545
      @squall545 Před 2 lety +3

      I wont say it's a question of charts.
      The year Ed Sheeran was everywhere Germany did really well in this style.
      It's more about how many songs of this genre you have.
      Of course this year with like 12 pop songs in the final and ovni like iceland, Ukraine, italy or France who had their very own style they had no chance.
      But put 10 good rocks songs in the final and France win.
      10 good ballads and 10 good rocks songs and a pop songs would have probably won.

    • @EmoBearRights
      @EmoBearRights Před 2 lety

    Many times you can see the countries/artists playing it safe, so there is definitely strategy there. They employ famous deejays, try to mimic earlier winners. This year they had a song that sounded just like Lady Gaga. Luckily, usually they end up placing in the middle of the pack. They don't suck, and they don't stand out. Originality luckily in many cases wins.
