I think that's one main difference between Giannis and Ben (I know Giannis is 10x better than Ben), but Giannis is not afraid to fail and face adversity, and that includes choking free throws. And he actually looks like he makes an effort to be better at them.
My Australian friend was so excited when Ben Simmons came into the league and he was going to be drafted first. I said to him that I didn't get him. He's tall but he's not an effective big man, he can sort of play like a guard but isn't good at that either. People talk about the flaws in his game but, for me, the biggest flaw is an intangible that I call "flow". Flow is very important in MMA fighters. You can have all the tools in the game but if you can't flow from one skillset to another, there's no point in having any tools at all. Khabib can wrestle and grapple, he's very good at those two things but his ability to grapple with no time needed to settle is what makes him dangerous. In basketball, this translates to the ability to change what you're doing at a moment's notice. You can spot an opening and transition immediately to a different skill. It all seems very easy for Simmons when it's in front of him. However, more than not having a jump shot, the fact he can't transition effectively means that, even if he had a jump shot, he'd still not be an elite talent. In saying that, the kid's a multi-millionaire. He can't drop $15 a month to get Masterclass and watch the Steph Curry shooting masterclass? A kid in Germany can learn how to Eurostep properly from a CZcams video and this guy can't practice his outside shooting? Realistically, at 6'11", the question should be why he's not more dominant inside. He's neither fish nor fowl. Right now, he needs to ask himself what he is best at and concentrate on that. Right now he's a whole lot of nothing.
