Way back two years ago, the only year the team has been actually relevant in the past decade. I mean I won’t knock a championship, a ring is a ring and most teams haven’t gotten one for a long time if at all, but this franchise has spent a lot more time in poverty than success in recent memory. One first round exit and two missed playoffs in the last four years and years of garbage prior to Lebron but you’d swear the Lakers were always the best team in the league from how their fans talk them up each year.
Blows my mind that people thought this roster would work out. I saw them winning 44-45 games barring health, and when all 3 of them played they were 11-10 so I was pretty spot on

Even with AD and LeBron both still on the floor, you could tell these Lakers were not headed for a deep playoff run, and not just because Russ was a human lowlight reel. For me, it was running LeBron 38 minutes a game, having him consistently lead in minutes and shot attempts, and resting on defense, while his knee was already showing the wear and tear. AD's FGA were way too low, probably because he was spending all his energy on giving the Lakers some kind of defensive presence. LeBron was conspicuously saving nothing for the postseason. It just seemed like unwise use of the assets they had and a bad recipe for winning down the stretch of a long season, much less a deep playoff run. But I never thought they'd miss the play-in until well after the All Star break. Even when they were dropping like a stone into the 9 and 10 spot, I thought surely they'd switch on the afterburners and make it into some kind of postseason. Oh well.
I think AD's FGA was kind of low partly because he just didn't have that aggressive mentality he once had. I don't really blame him. It seems like every time he tries to be more aggressive, he ends up getting injured or he scares Lakers fans who think he might get injured again.
Lebron lead teams have legit gotten us used to them just turning on some kind of light bulb and getting it together. Its crazy lol. They were terrible even with AD which to me is the saddest part of the season.

AD has 90 blocks from 40 games played this season, while Giannis has 91 blocks across 67 games played. Embiid also has 99 blocks over 68 games played. While blocks are obviously not the be-all and end-all of defense, I think the fact that AD, Giannis and Embiid are pretty good at making blocks supports their point. It's not like the rest of the team was doing much on defense (LeBron at least has the excuse of basically _being_ their whole offense and averaging a top 5 ppg of over 30.3ppg).
