  • It wasn't too long ago that many of us thought that Ben Simmons could become the next LeBron James or Magic Johnson... and in his first couple seasons it looked like he was on pace to becoming an all time legend. However his offensive game has regressed every season and now he's one of the most criticized players in the league and has lost his starting role on the Brooklyn Nets.
So how did we get to this point? To answer this question we need to go back to the 2016 NBA Draft and look through Ben Simmons career to see where it all went wrong.

Ben Simmons is what you get when Talent doesn't Work Hard. He's the epitome of Last one in, First one out when it comes to working on his game. His unwillingness to shoot is one of the weirdest things I've seen in my 25 years as an NBA fan. Physically, there's nothing stopping him from developing this fundamental skill. That's not only about the hustle, you can't hustle out of nowhere. Something bothers him. Simmons looks frustrated af. It's clear, he can't do everything people expect him to do. The NBA is a meat grinder, he needs to either have a break from the game (maybe a definitive one), or go to a team where the pressure is way lower than Philadelphia and specially New York, even this has the risk of him being the "superstar" of the team.
I'm no psychologist, but I think he doesn't believe how good he is, that's why he can't improve, he just doesn't let himself do what's good for him. I was in this situation (and go back sometimes) and I know a lot of people of my generation that's in this hole too, he's just a year younger than me, maybe it's a generational thing, idk. I have no clue if he was raised to feel entitled in his childhood, but him being a #1 draft value did not help. He has to somehow embrace adversity for love of the game n life in general. Truth is, I don’t think he loves the game. He loves celebrity status. Maybe once that status is 200% tarnished, he could dig deep n get better. That’s looking highly unlikely. Stranger things have happened though so who knows. I really hope he works on what’s hard, n gets aggressive. Not really, there are a lot of 3 and D guys in the NBA. You don't need to be good at anything other than threes and free throws as long as your defense is good. Ben Simmons just doesn't have the exact skills on offense which a player needs to have.

When I found out that he ignored Kobe’s advice, that’s when I knew he was a fraud. When a legend like Kobe gives you advice on how to be a better player, you listen. You gotta pretty dense to not take the advice from one of the greatest players in the game, but then again, Simmons did have that GPA problem back at LSU, so maybe he is *that* dense
