My main issue with US basketball is just that we pick and chose what we want to matter whereas the competition is getting a lot better and shows out on every stage. This half the reason the in season tournament isn’t as hyped, cause the players don’t care.

2018: celtics go to ECF while he's injured for the whole playoffs.
2019: a healthy kyrie literally shoots the celtics out the 2nd rnd. Kyrie shot 29%FG in last 4 games while taking the most shots on the team. 1-4 gentlemen's sweep.
2020: goes to nets, plays a couple games and gets injured, they had a more winning record once he got injured... Decides not to go play in the bubble.

2022: Swept by old team in first rnd
2023: Goes to dallas while they're 4th seed, leads them to the 11th seed in 1.5 months to miss the play-in... and seriously... ON HIS OWN?????? Kyrie has now played with KD, Tatum, Brown, Luka, and harden(kinda). And he hasn't been farther than for example Dame in the playoffs, who hasn't played with a single other all-star, all-nba, mvp, dpoy, all-defensive, not even a roty, nor coty in the last 8 seasons. They need team mates to ensure offensive flow and a group willing to go at it at 110% without fear of getting injured. Barkley and Mullin were the leading scorers for the dream team and leading rebounders that are offensive threats Patrick Euwing, Barkely, Karl Malone and David Robinson. MJ, Bird and Magic could actually just stand back and watch the mayhem. You dont have that much talent tioday. So you need more effort and actual team chemistry for defense to get the win assuming you get unstoppable offensive players and rebounders on the team. I think the NBA should implement a super max contract for players getting gold in a number of international tournaments as an incentive,
Much of this is just the nature of the game. In the days of zone defense and potent 3 point shooting streaks/slumps, any team with a baseline talent level has a punchers chance of upsetting anyone.

SG: Steph Curry
SF: Tatum
PF: Draymond green
C: Anthony Davis
It's a nice mix of both scoring from KD, Lebron, Steph, and defense with Green and AD in the backcourt.. Davis protecting the rim while green organizes the defense and tells everyone where to be, And they can switch everything as well because other than Curry everyone else is 6'6 and above...
And I think the other reserves would be Dame, Booker, Jimmy, KD, and Bam,

Greetz from Germany …why do all people in the USA believe that with LeBron, Steph and Co you can win against Germany, Serbia or Greece? Offensive wasn't the USA's problem in the semifinals. Haliburton, Edwards and Co had 59% FG and 48% threes. the problem was the strong offensive of the Germans and Lithuanians. why shouldn't they do the same against the old LeBron, Steph and KD? and defense was already there this year.

I think that this type of selection process is part of the problem. They need to go back to the system they had in 2008, where they had a pool of players that they asked to make a 3 year commitment to be a part of the program. I realize that they can't really say no if Lebron wants to play or KD or Curry want to play, but this is no way to build continuity. They will probably win the olympics last year, but then that's it. They won't be around for the next world cup in 2027, or the 2028 olympics so we will have to start over again with young players. There is no strategy in putting the team together, just the usual process. Dominate, get complacent, send a weaker team, lose, then send a good team again, dominate and repeat. Other countries build teams over several years. They keep a core group together, then bring in younger players to replace the older ones. No other country is totally rebuilding their team from competition to competition.

What about any of the guys who played in the FIBA World Cup to return? Anthony Edwards played spectacular! So did Bridges and Haliburton and even Austin Reeves. Yes bring all the stars back, but add some of these players who played in the FIBA games. They represented well.
The world has chemistry, some of the FIBA guys can have some chemistry and a huge chip on they shoulder to bring along with the super stars who will join.
Just ANT, depending on which guards/forwards they bring I wouldn’t mind mikal as a lakers fan I wouldn’t mind AR either
I wasn't impressed with Edwards defense he got caught standing around ball watching. His scoring was stellar, however I like Booker, Klay, and Kennard as my SGs for Paris gold. I would take Kennard over Reeves as he is more experienced and better shooter.

Easy days for USA has gone. Now, they need to send off top dogs or A-teams. That old notion that USA could send 2nd or 3rd class teams and smash the opponents and bring the gold to home for granted no longer exists. This international teams have improved a lot over the years. By the way, most of them have NBA caliber players or at least NBA experience.

We’ve been past the point where the US can no longer just throw players together and win. That’s why we had the Redeem Team. That 04 team was just a bunch of stars that didn’t fit and they got embarrassed. The Redeem Team dominated everybody,including Spain, until the Gold Medal Game. The Redeem Team only struggled vs Argentina after Manu went out, but when Manu was on the court they had a 20+pt lead. In the final it took a lot of big time shots for Spain to keep it close. It wasn’t til the end where the US pulled away. Also in the qualifiers they matched up with Spain and the Redeem Team beat them by 30.
I wouldn't call the 2004 team was "a bunch of stars" because they only had 2 all-stars for the 2003-04 NBA season (Duncan and Iverson) on that team. Lebron Wade and Carmelo were rookes in the 2003-04 season. Anyway, they did indeed get embarrassed as they lost 3 games in that Olympics.

Evan Mobley needs to be there for defense and Mitchell Robinson for rebounds. Don’t play small ball that’s just how these teams want you to play! They pass, cut, shoot, and move so quickly. I don’t think the other teams would have an answer for the USA size and athleticism! Use it!
Canadian here and old enough to remember the frustration where the Russians kept on winning in the World Championships and Olympics in Hockey. This was a time when Canadian professionals were are not allowed to play in the Olympics since they were professionals while the Russian players were called amateurs since they were in the army but really spent their days practicing hockey with a lot of expenses taken care of by the government (pros without being called pros). After complaining by us Canadians we had the eight game SUMMIT SERIES where Canada could finally put our best against Russia's best (Bobby Hull was not allowed to play for Canada but another story). So what happened? An overconfident Canada underestimated their opponent. Canada did win the series by one game out of eight but learned the Russians could play and they took the Canadian pros to the wall
Euro league always got top 🔝 notch team talent and movement without the ball 🏀 that’s true basketball, while USA is becoming more of a ISO type culture, especially the young guys coming up 😢 more of highlight culture. Hopefully we get to see some superstars come together for the Summer Olympic Games. That would be dope to see for the fans around the world.

They didn't care about highlights, they did what's effective and played real team ball, much like the Strength in Number Dubs, where you give up your flashy shot or fadeaway to give your teammate a better opportunity. That's what the US team lacked in FIBA WC. Half the guys didn't know the team rotation, their roles and the pecking order, and they lacked a floor general who would orchestrate that offence. Plus they were too cocky from the get-go, Ant's D.Wade comp being the start of things. You need to know your role and be ready to make what's best for the team, not for your ego. Well, they still have time to learn, and hopefully Ant will get to see the Warriors this year in playoffs like he bragged, so that he can see and learn what the real team ball is about.

In my opinion Joel will play for team USA. He isn’t from France. He’s from Cameroon. His son is American born and he often discusses this. We gave him the opportunities and life he has now, and to top everything off France was terrible at fiba and probably won’t get much better during the Olympics. He wants to medal if he plays and win a gold medal and team USA is his best shot at that.
Even with Wemby with a year of NBA experience and resources?
I hope it has not come to this that the hope for gold is on Embid not the GOAT or those in the GOAT discussions or players that the NBA is building into next gen stars.

Bam is great, but if AD is healthy and willing to play he has to start over Bam, especially after what we just saw with FIBA. His defense is just too much of a game changer.
IMO Edwards, Bridges, Haliburton, Reaves and Brunson should be play in the Olympics. They had time to play together and they can work together as a real team. The other 7 players should be stars like Steph, Bron, Booker, Tatum, Butler, Anthony Davis or Bam.

What i ak trying to say is, look at 2008, 2012 team, all the top players like Lebron, melo, Dwade, KD, they were all in their mid 20s. Kobe was the old man on the team, he was 30 on the 08 team, and 34 on the 2012 team. But look at now, all the top US players are in their mid or even late 30s. The young Americans talent level are not catching up to the international players.

That line-up will not play defense coz they are not used to, will always resort to isolation plays, will try to fish for fouls by flopping coz they are used to getting preferential calls in the NBA, they will be called for numerous travel violations especially Lebron, they are not used to getting hand-checked and being defended well in the paint (coz there is no defensive 3-second rule under FIBA).
