He should have helped Cameroon qualify. With Siakam on the team, they had a chance. And as far as international recognition goes, it would have been more interesting to see him carry the Cameroonian team far in the Olympics or beat the likes of Slovenia, France, or the USA.
He's just another bandwagon player. Doesn't care about the fight so will never win a chip unless he joins a super team.
He's not like Giannis, Jokic or Luka carrying their own countries in their backs.

its a smart move by Embiid. He could have chosen Cameroon, which would be the sentimental choice. Yet, the still have to qualify to play in Paris. France overplayed their hand by demanding he chose early (by October 10). If he chose to play for Cameroon or France, he would have to play 100% of the time and this is not good for someone who is injury prone. And assembling their best players with Embiid coming from another country is actually a good joke. Other countries dont even have that many good players and most of the time half of them is injured or has other things to do. Will Pascal Siakam play for Canada now?
I would've expected Embiid to play for France and team up with Gobert and Wembanyama to try to take down the powerhouse USA.
Embid doesn't want to work for accolades, he wants them handed out to him.
He's probably the type of player that (secretly) hopes the other team's best player gets injured so he can face weaker opponents.
Weak move.
And to be honest, gauged upon his statements and how he conducts himself, he seems very juvenile.
Which wouldn't be surprising if he had no family with him in the US.
Oh well, he can do whatever he wants of course; let's just hope Chuck and Shaq roast him a bit to provide some catharsis. :D

It won't be easy, but the USA will definitely be the favorite. I agree continuity is important and the gap isn't what it used to be. But let's remember, we finished 4th with a team of mostly role players. And it's possible that none of those guys will be on next year's team. And adding Embiid addresses the biggest concern, a lack of size.

There won't be more then two games they win by less then double figures if all the guys who can play will play. If the team that took 4th in Manila had Joel and AD they'd have won gold. Yeah, NBA analysts have hard time understanding that basketball played in FIBA is actually team game. It's hard to play team game when you have group of stars together and they all want to be seen as a stars too. Other countries might not have as many NBA stars but they know each other's games upside and under and know how to get best out of their team. Also they really want to win (both USA and Olympics) and are not expecting it to just happen because of their stars which is a risk for team USA to trip on.

I promise you that the average NBA viewer does not care about the national team. They only care if the best players are playing for the national team, which is the case for the 2024 Olympics. European teams play FIBA basketball way more than the USA and Canada so it's not surprising that they would be more comfortable and have better tactics and strategies playing FIBA rules. The average American has the arrogance because it is expected that USA should win a sport such as basketball in the Olympics. It is not comparable to a hopeful fan of a European country with a small population. Also, the NBA has high salaries because it is monopolized. The best players come to the NBA, and all the teams are in one league. It's not like soccer where there are multiple leagues like La Liga or the Prem. We came into the World Cup with an understanding that we were giving young guys with no experience playing FIBA basketball a chance to play in the program.
