I have 10 of the flame king 1 lb bottles, and I have their refill kit. Super easy and fast. Takes around 45 seconds to fill the bottle. Couldn’t be happier with the flame king bottles, and their refill kit. Totally worth the money.

you should use the flame king refill kit with the flame king tanks it will give you more accurate fill keeping both tanks straight up and down. 20 lb being upside down.
keeps them vertical and the refill device should have a valve for safety.
Nobody will know that you refilled the bottles, unless you tell them lol
What you really want is the 3 ft flexible refill hose with a shutoff valve. The flexibility of the hose makes it easy to get the 1lb bottle upright when filling and the shutoff valve controls the flow precisely. It makes this job easy peezy.
There's lots of waist that way, that's why it's short.
@@keithh.2624 You're right. I dumped the hose and got a $10 angle adapter with shutoff valve. Work's much better.
First the hose is not that flexible and yet the propane in the hose is more waiste than just the adapter.
Actually, left-hand threads have been a standard thread for flammable gasses for many years.
Excellent videoI have slot of these 1lb bottles. I used the fuel, then soda blasted the bottle, then I put 4 coats of etching primer then powder coated them with green enamel paint the printed a hazmat label for the bottle. I also bought brass caps to screw on each one.
I did start buying Flame king refillable propane bottles.
I only use bottles I have bought. Been I will not use a bottle I'm not 100% sure how it was treated. I test for leaks on every bottle.
I have 22 bottles now.
More then a year's worth of propane if used 2 times a day. 1 bottle will last on a stove about a month. If you use an oven the only last a few days, many times only a few hours. I have 2 20 pounders I use to refill them. I use 1 I get it refilled. Very cost effective. Even if propane go higher in price, I will still be able to pay for more. I don't throw $$ away. To hard to come by today as it was say 30 yrs ago.

Good video. Bulging tank was improperly filled (overfilled) and liquid expansion caused bulging. Any tank can get beat up like your example including flame kings. If you fill these properly - no more than 29.5-30 oz TOTAL weight using a scale) Chilling works great. Do not vent using OP valve only vent by using adaptor through main vent and store using brass caps. Finally just go get a new one after several fillings. Never had any issues.
One comment the flame king relief tube has a length that corresponds to a vertical tank not one at 45 deg like you stand. Not sure how that affects the liquid level at vent time but it’s definitely not designed to a length for a 45° bottle

Thanks for the useful information. It might make your job a little easier if you get an allen key with a screw driver type handle to operate the vent valve during filling. They are also available with ball ends that makes them less picky about angle when inserting into an allen set screw. Then you can do the final tightening with the conventional bent key when you have the bottle off of the tank adapter.
I was thinking along the same. The faster you react once the propane comes out, the less waste. Regular Allen key doesn't cut it.
Great informative video. I’m just currently having trouble finding the bottles. Hopefully, this will change soon. I will likely refill my current bottles for home use.

The safety part is actually the most important part of the video for people who never did propane filling training.
1. If using non refillable bottles, first check for any damages, wear, and tear. If in doubt, throw it away.
2. A way for the air pressure to escape is critical. Otherwise, injury and/or explosion may occur.
3. It is worth the extra expense to invest in a face shield and rubber glove due to the very cold temperature of the propane, which may harm your skin and eyes.

Hi Keith, yeah me too. These bottles have been working great for me. I have probably saved 15 bottles so far.
I have about 12 plus Coleman propane bottles that were given to me, and I’m pretty sure they are old, I’m having a lot of trouble using them with a brand new torch head. I’m not sure if the torch head is junk or something is wrong with the bottles, also the bottles feel full and heavy! Also I want to buy this product for myself, thanks for the review!

I got my recharge peace made from a hose and the two screw on fittings have been crimped on . I had no idea to bleed the air pressure out . Great video thanks for the info . I always wondered how would any one know if you refilled the small tanks? Propane is propane right ? One would have to get caught actually doing it ! I do it so I don’t have to buy the ones for running a hand held torch . They stay in the garage and I just use them around the house . I’ve got tanks from the 70’s that look as good now as they did back then . But I don’t take them in a vehicle any were . Just carried around the house for heating and soldering purposes! Thanks

I have a Mr. Buddy heater that takes two, one pound cylinders. I just bought two large tank adapters and use it with 20 pound tanks. Voila! No more one pound tanks.
Yes, but you can't bring the barbecue tanks indoors safely, so that means you have to use them on the first floor only. You have to run a hose out the cracked window.
It might be nice to bring a 1-pounder up onto the upper floor to run it in a bedroom. I still crack the window.

That's an awkward method for filling the tanks. A 90 degree adapter is the way to go so that way both the feed bottle and the empty bottle are both vertical. I'm buying the Flame King kit to make life easier.

This seems more of a push ad for Flame King!
I assume you already noticed when doing a bulk tank exchange, they sell you only 15lb instead of the full 20lb, it's sold that way to hide inflation to keep public from knowing cost is going up. I only exchange for a bulk tank when old reaches its 12 year required refill qualification for a newer tank.
@Joe Blow that sounds interesting but the truth is that they can only be refilled to 80% of capacity. That's one reason that the valve was changed.
@@pedroherrera3787 This is assuming that the tanks have a maximum volume of 20 lb but in reality all 20lb tanks have a maximum of 24 lb which means they are already well below the safe limit. All 20lb tanks have an internal inverted straw that limits tank from being over filled beyond the 20lb while leaving the 4lb for air volume. Additionally it also has a float limiter valve (similar to toilet shut off float valve) that plugs valve shut to prevent any forced pumped propane into tank.
Suggestion, I know inwould loose the Allen key, so I would tape to the key to the bottom.
Please check and see if flame king bottle hold more than exactly 1 lb when filled.
They are designed to let you know when they are 80% full. It has a bleed valve.

I have a couple small, green, one pound disposable bottles. I would like to do the reverse procedure (empting the green bottles into an empty, standard 14 LB tank). These small, green bottles have some rust on them and I want to discard them after they have been emptied (no safety lectures please). Can this reverse procedure be done?
Give me some of them I also have the hose goes from the big propane tanks to the appliance

Mine wouldn't do it ..get a 20 lb tank and the kit ... If you are an avid outdoors person the money you save will cover it ... I have a buddy heater for my garage where I train and in the winter it is darn cold out there got these after my disposable tanks kicked as I would use two of those after several days faster if I crank the heater to max vs leaving it in low...
Point is these are worth it and their refill kit is also worth the investment and you don't have to worry about the cheap adapter losing it's cap and spraying your freshly filled tanks propane everywhere as I seen reviews from people about that occurring so yeah no thanks... Once you do all this a few times you won't bat an eye at it
The bulged one may have been overfilled, or filled with a propane/butane mixture with more propane and higher vapor pressure than the original.

I am planning to switch over to Flame King bottles. What I don't know is whether or not I can use standard refill adapters to refill the Flame King bottle. Does anyone have that info?
Why don't you refill it correctly? They sell 90 degree fill adapters for $14. The bottles have a dip tube and will fill to the correct level every time when filled vertically.
Doing it for years without a problem and without liquid propane spewing out everywhere. I honestly see no benefit using this. I have crossed just about every state line with refilled bottles and never had a problem. FYI never mess with the scharder valve.
Dude, both cylinders need to be vertical. You can buy just the flame king refill valve for 29 bucks. With tanks at a 45 degree angle you will never get all the liquid from 20 lb tank and never fill the little tank to 80 percent.

20% of the air space must be maintained over the propane liquid. I don't think that his wooden stand makes that possible.
Yes, there is an epidemic of exploding refilled 1 pound propane bottles. Really? You can buy these little guys? Where might you find them now?
1. Use different gloves. Your gloves would have your hands burned if in contact with liquid. Should an event happen, you want to be able to flick your gloves off. Look into rubber chemical gloves.
2. There should be no air in the tank...at all. Liquid propane/propane vapors.
3. Companies apply the plastic sleeve as it has all of the needed information that has been approved by their legal teams.
Many companies, such as mine, require them to be removed with a decal put in place. Again, the decala have all the required information.
4. Look into the all too many accidents caused by these. Not worth the liability, in my opinion.

You are doing this wrong. You need to get the filler valve from Flame King. The refillable tank needs to be upright.

I got told today that Australia doesn't allow such refillable canisters? Does anyone know different? Maybe they think it's a good idea to fill the landfills of Australia with single-use gas canisters? Pretty pathetic
And Canada doesn't allow any of this stuff.
From what I've heard, California is drafting legislation to ban the disposables.

Dude, get a wrench and tight the adaptor on the tank first. Then hand screw on the tank to the adaptor! Right there is where I stopped paying attention to your video. You should know basics!

Refillable are $50 on Amazon for the refill kit and $85 plus tax for just 4 refillable canisters/tanks.
