You mentioned "so odd that a famous Hollywood actor is buried of all places in this....cemetery...just in the middle of a pretty odd neighborhood in Kansas City....this is really an industrial area." Sometimes a cemetery exist many years, and well before the area it is in is developed around it.
Near Dallas where you just left, civil war veteran Isaac Tompkins asked his wife to bury him under a lone oak tree that sat on a bluff in Irving Texas. He died in the late 1800s. The cemetery was on the Tompkins ranch with peaceful meadows and solitude, you know, where the deer and the antelope roam...that sort of thing. After he died the rest of the family were interred in this cemetery over the decades.
Irving, Texas and the surrounding areas around Dallas was growing over the years since Isaac died. So much so that the Tompkins family started selling their farm land. They eventually sold all their land. They sold their land on the condition that the cemetery NEVER be moved. And so it became history. The area around the cemetery now includes DFW airport as well as numerous shopping centers. The cemetery has made the news over the years as one of the strangest places in Texas for a graveyard. If you are driving (from DFW airport) east on Highway 183 and you need gas or a quick burger (Whataburger) then you may take the Valley View exit. That grassy area BETWEEN the highway and the exit ramp is where the graves are! Who really notices this area? If you want to visit the grave I guess you have to park at the Whataburger across the street and dart across fast moving traffic on the ramp and hope you don't hit by a car. Please note that if you get killed by a car, you can't stay there and be buried already....it is a Tompkin family only cemetery. 😬
I suspect (don't know) the Asner family final resting place was far different a time ago than it is now.

I liked Ed Asner... He and MTM were great together!
Speaking of MTM she is buried at Oak Lawn Cemetery in Fairfield CT. My hometown. Her grave is very beautiful and tasteful... it's landscaped 4 times a year for every season. Lamont, if you should come back this way, another excellent Cemetery nearby is Mountain Grove. It's located on the Fairfield/Bridgeport line and has many famous celebrities and historical figures buried there...
P.T. Barnum for one and some of his circus people. It's a beautiful place!

Ed Asner, along with the rest of the MTM cast, were a huge part of my life when I was a kid. The Mary Tylor Moore show on Saturday night at 9 pm was the highlight of my week (followed by the Bob Newhart Show). It's impossible for young people today to understand how different TV was back then, and how these commercial, network shows we such a major part of all of our lives.

Speaking of kids shooting each other. I moved from N.Y. to Mississippi then to Alabama. And I have never heard of so many kids killing each other or just the number of shootings that are in the city of Birmingham, Alabama and the surrounding area. There is at least one news story on TV just about every day of a murder or shooting. And some are little kids being killed from shots being fired at their homes. It’s crazy!

Ed Asner made his film debut in 1962, in the Elvis Presley movie Kid Galahad and again with the king in 'Change of Habit'. Asner is best known for his character Lou Grant, who was first introduced on The Mary Tyler Moore Show in 1970. In 1977, after the series, Asner's character was given his own show, Lou Grant (1977-82).
Ed Asner and Elvis Presley, 'Change Of Habit' 1969.
Mary Tyler Moore also starred in the movie
When asked what was Elvis Presley like to work with, Asners answer was; He was very nice to work with. I worked with him twice. I worked with him on 'Kid Galahad', and I worked with him on 'Change of Habit'. In 'Kid Galahad', his hands were all bandaged and broken up because he was in his karate stage at that time, breaking bricks. But he was a delightful young man to be around, never offensive, always seemed to work hard. Then in 'Change of Habit', he was a different young man at that point and seeming to be concentrating very seriously on being an actor.

I remember his role on “Our Friend Martin” when voiced the principal in the alternate timeline.
He also had roles in CSI: NY (where he portrayed a sympathizer designed as a WWII hero called Abraham Klein) and Criminal Minds (where he played Roy Brooks, Aaron Hotcher’s father-in-law).
But to me, his best role was Carl Frederickson on UP! A change of direction, because he played a character that was grumpy and recluse at the beginning , but turned into a caring and outgoing at the end.

Ed Asner was a hard line Liberal Hollywood Democrat. He starred in the movie Eldorado with John Wayne. It is my understanding that John Wayne and Ed Asner did not get along with each other at all. Ed Asner was an in your face liberal Democrat. John Wayne was a conservative republican. Ed Asner started a lot of arguments with John Wayne about politics on the Eldorado movie set. The arguments got so bad that actor Robert Mitchum had to step in between those two to break up the arguments that Ed Asner started with John Wayne.
