Your remark about Western’s becoming less popular in American culture rang a bell . Ants westerns or replaced. However, because so many people are being killed by guns in America now, it occurred to me westerns went out and then guns became America’s past time an obsession to own their own guns? Kind of interesting when you think about it about it.

I watched it weekly, the man who played their cook was also funny in the series, you should look up his name. He was born on a December 10 just like me, only he was 3 years younger than my dad. My father in law also fought in the Korean War. I was in 7th grade when Mr. Blocker passed away.

My 91 year old grandparents watch Bonanza and Gunsmoke every day. There is a cable channel that plays all sorts of western shows.
I don't think the newer generations would watch. If it isn't a tic tok, a meme, or vine, it won't be watched lol.
Thank you for your all you do.

My grandma loved westerns. I remember as a little girl, I would spend a week every summer with her & that's all we'd watch were westerns 😆 John Wayne was her favorite, her hero. But one show we'd always watch every afternoon was Bonanza. Now that I'm older (in my 60's) I find myself watching Bonanza.
RIP 🙏🕯🕊 Dan Blocker & thank you for your service in our military as well sir.

Love the title... someone has been watching that ridiculous channel/series "sad and tragic end." In this case it is sad. Their videos often involve people who are still alive and doing okay or people who died in their 80s. Nothing sad and tragic about living into your 80s while living on fortune and fame.

A friend of mine lived in Alpine for several years (a beautiful town by the way) and he told me a story he was told about Dan in his youth. He was supposed to be quit a prankster. One story was him and some of his buddies dawned six shooters, scarves around their faces and while riding horses robbed someone of their valuables while driving their care, and then took them to the sheriff's office and gave them to the sheriff. When the people got to town to report the crime the sheriff gave them back their stuff. I have no idea if the story is true but it is funny.

He had Type 1 diabetes, but didn't follow his regimen to take care of it. Blocker had gallbladder surgery in March, 1972, but his recovery was slow, and some people had concerns about his progress. I never forget reading it in the newspaper and yelling, "Dan Blocker died, Hoss died." Our family couldn't believe it. Still can't.
Westerns will have a place, but not like 50 or 60 years ago. Times are different now.
