  • We visit the grave of Dan Blocker. I say several times that Dan was 48 when he passed away. He was actually 43.. My own father was 48so I guess that was stuck in my brain. Sorry. Paula the Pyrenees meets horses for the first time. Dan played Hoss Cartwright on the television show Bonanza, and was also a Purple Heart recipient in the Korean War. Join us at Woodmen Cemetery in DeKalb Texas as we pay respects to an actor with a heart as big as he was. I mistakenly called Dirk Blocker Dan's brother. He is Dan's son. Sorry for any confusion. 0014

I am 54 and used to watch Bonanza when i was a kid. Now i am watching again and again as many episodes i can. Hoss was such a kind man. So big, so humble and so heartfuld. I was very sad when i learnt that he died so young. I will keep on watching Bonanza. It makes my heart happy. Thanks for your video. Greetings from Uruguay, South America

I mistakenly called Dirk Dan's Brother. He is actually his son. Sorry for any confusion. Thanks everyone for watching. I really enjoy making these videos for you, and hope they inspire others to get out and explore the world! Also: we cleaned up the UNO cards. I couldn't leave them laying there.

Thank you for sharing this video about Dan Blocker. I loved watching him on the show Bonanza. He was my favorite on the show. He passed away after he developed a blood clot in his lungs, after gallbladder surgery. When I grew up I wanted to marry a man like Dan Blocker and John Wayne mixed. I found that type of man. He passed away a couple of months before our wedding from cancer on the brain. And yes, the good die young.

I loved Bonanza and loved Hoss and the entire family...I got a little upset with Pernell Roberts for the reasons he left, but I guess they do what they do...As far as I know, the show has always been called Bonanza...I just watched all the series and episodes...They never used the drowning scenario, but they never told what happened to him..The last season (14) was just awful without him...There was no way Bonanza could survive and it didn't .....Mr. Blocker ended up having to have his gall bladder removed. They say he done well and was in recovery cutting up with the staff, when suddenly he died, and it was from just as you stated..It broke my heart...Loved that show...thank you for sharing...

He was actually recuperating at home when he had complications which sent him back to the hospital. He came home too early, he wanted to be home otherwise he might have had more exercise/therapy and prevented blood clots or at least been treated sooner for them. His weight was a contributing factor, he was advised to lose weight by his doctor, and he did, but not as much as he should have and it was a contributing factor.

My dad knew Dan as a young teenager in O Donald TX. Blocker 's had a small grocery. My dad and his brothers were amazed how a 12 year old boy could carry a 100 lb sack of potatoes on his shoulders out the store to deposit the sack in their buck-board wagon. My uncle worked weekends with the Blocker grocery. He said Dan was bookish intellect type of person. In fact my uncle told us that he helped Dan learn a little boxing to ward off a few of his bullies because Blocker did not have an aggressive personality. My aunt who attended high school with him said the cowboy image did not fit his soft personalty. Here in South West Texas I know a small business owner who shined shoes in O Donald. Dan would stop by his stand across the street from the Blocker grocery before and after the Hollywood fame. Joe commented that the actor was unchanged by the success: friendly, out going, and left a good tip.

He did not teach in the off seasons of Bonanza, he made enough money to not have to do that. He also went in his off time to Switzerland where he enrolled his kids in school for a different cultural experience.

He was 43 yrs at the time of death he had months to go before he reached 44. Depends on the month of birth if he died before he get to it even though the years says 44 he still would have died at 43 he didn't get to 44 he had months to go. 🤷

Thought he was 42 but way too young regardless! One of my favorites and am wondering if the Ponderosa steak house that I went to as a kid was what he was part owners of? Will be looking this up quickly to find out. I just mentioned that steak house to my mom a few weeks back!.

Olympia, Washington, that's where I was born may 5th 1958, he was my Grandpa Pitypoo, he would always smile when I called him that. After he died. I could still hear the sound of him playing cards and walking with his steal crutches. I can still smell his cherry tobacco. He loved his family.
